In yesterday's Capital Talk program, issue of Gas loadshedding came and Hamid Mir told that one of the culprit is Fatima Fertilizer. Fertilizer industry uses around 17% (which is equal to total household consumption in Pakistan so if they stop giving gas to these industries, household gas problem will be solved) of gas in Pakistan and Government has written agreement with them that no gas will be provided to them during three months i.e. Dec, Jan and Feb. But still some factories are getting gas including Fatima Fertilizer because they are influential people and no body can do **** about them.

Check their BOD page and see who is in management team.

    Chairman - Arif Habib
    CEO - Fawad Ahmed Mukhtar
    Director - Faisal Ahmed Mukhtar

Does this last name "Mukhtar" ring any bell?

What are the implications in importing gas from Iran? Can anybody please put some light on the implications?

First off....the Iranian gas ain't gonna land on Pakistani shores anytime soon. Iranians on their part have laid down the pipelines from their gas fields to almost near the Pak-iran borders. Once the Irani half of pipeline reaches the border, Pakistani would have start laying down their half and this is where the problem is; finances.

Secondly, Uncle Sam is not warming up to this idea and has openly lobbied and cajoled Pakistan to look at other alternatives such as TAPI from Central Asia.

Thanks for your briefing on the topic of Iranian gas. I guess, the really trouble lies with Uncle SAM. The nation is suffering so badly because of our unfruitful relation with Uncle SAM.

Thirdly, it will be approx three times costly than our local gas rates.

Fawad Ahmed Mukhtar and Faisal Ahmed Mukhtar are definitely relatives or may be brother of Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar as Hamid Mir said in program that these people in Fatima Fertilizer are very influential and has connections in federal government. He even asked Petroleum Minister Asim Hussain about them but he conveniently side stepped his question. Here is the discussion between them upon disconnecting gas supply to those powerful industries.

Asim Hussain: kuch hain industries jo law and order ke situation create kar kay hamaray amlay ko ghusnay nahi day rahay

Hamid Mir: acha yani aap kise ka naam lena pasand karain gay takay poori qom ko pata chal jaey kay ye gas chore kon hain

Amir Hussan: main is waqt....naam ...mere paas list nahi hai...agar mujhe pata hota to kuch industries ka naam lay leta...but i know there are a few industries jo disconnection nahi allow kar rahi

Hamid Mir: Dr. sahab agar aab bura na manain....to shaaed ye gas chore aap say zaiada taqatwar hain isee leay in ka naam aap ke zaban-e-mubarak pay nahi araha

If imported gas from Iran is going to be 3 times more expensive, then even the import of gas does not seem to be feasible. What may be the solution to energy problems then?

This is the problem with being presumptuous without knowledge. Just sharing the last name does not make them Ahmed Mukhtar's relatives.

They are in fact sons of late Sheikh Mukhtar, a tycoon from Multan. This family was in PPP then in Q league and now in cahoot with PPP again.

Not only gas, but as far as I know electricity is also present at the border. The problem is not Iran and nor the Yankees. It is our incompetent and corrupt leaders. having amassed their assets abroad they are vulnerable if US decides to make an example.

I think Asim Hussain was referring to Fauji Fertilizers. Owned and operated by the biggest mafia in Pakistan.

Janab where gone the news of 40 trillion cf new reserves of natural gas. I should remind that this news was published in May 2011. These new reserves are bigger than Sui reserves. In my personal opinion this government is intentionally creating this problem of shortage so that people at large come on the roads and create a situation of law and order. Such a situation will attract to those stupids who are eager to kick this government out. And thus the present corrupt and incapable Zardari & Co. will again start mourning that we have been deprived off, we are not let to complete tenor, Siyaasi shaheed .. you know ..

Doesn't matter. What I meant was these are influential people with connections in government which your point also proves. Doesn't matter if they are brother and sister of somebody or uncle and aunti of someone. End result is the same.

This is what u wrote and instead of showing some remorse, u r saying doesn't matter.

Faisal Mukhtar was nazim of multan during mush time and Arif Habib was the person who was involved in stock market crash of 2005 and was subsequenctly inovlved in the steel mill privitization agian during mush time.

Its very easy to blame politicans and political process but everythinngs is fine for people like u during UNIFORMED ANGELS era.

No end result is not the same.

There are good and bad people everywhere. Just because anyone is politician or is an influential does not automatically make him evil and corrupt. One should be careful dragging someone's name into dirt based on conjectures.

It is not fair to Ahmed Mukhtar if it is implied that he peddled his influence just because Fatima group people share the same last name.

Tarnishing someone's character based on hearsay and conjecture is not a trivial matter, neither according to social norms, nor law nor religion. You are destroying someone's name and reputation just because you dreamed something. In more civilized countries, there are strict defamation laws that protect people from false accusations. In the absence of such laws in Pakistan, everyone can accuse anyone of anything they can think of and one does not even think twice before doing so.

Besides that Arif Habib is same person who recently procured Javedan Cement Factory situated on 1200 acres as a sick unit for peanuts from government and now instead of reviving it he and his partners are busy building residential units ( Naya Nazimabad ) on it.
