According to swiss law if Zardari's swiss cases are not reopened by March 2012 then those cases would lapse can't be reopened,SC too knows that and would try to get the letter written at any cost. Zardari on the other hand would try to drag this issue beyond March 2012.

Expect massive fireworks from next week onwards..

Enough with these notices and time for action. Even if these pea brained degenerates get convicted for contempt, Zardari will grant them presidential pardon.

SC serves contempt notices on 5 PPP leaders

    * Leaders receive notices for their ‘anti-judiciary’ remarks

Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has issued the contempt of court notices to former Federal Minister Babar Awan, Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah, Advisor to Prime Minister Farooq Awan and former Information Minister Kamar Zaman Kaira over contemptuous press conference against SC interim order in memogate case on December 01, in which they criticized on the Commission constituted for probe into memogate issue. SC cannot convict Zardari.

Anyone else convicted by SC, will get pardon by SC.

So all in all, nothing will change.

Kiyani/SC thought pressure will get to Zardari and he will leave. However, hr is till sitting in President's House with a comfortable majority in Parliament. So its really complicated.

  17. If supreme court does not respect constitution, Parliament and President, then nobody going to respect them.

It does not matter, aisi kai dealines aur rounds aatay jaatay raian gay.

Yeh Chief justice ultimate power kee desire aur ego ke nashay mein masat ha. es ne politically motivated judicial activism ke zaria, Pakistan ke democratic system ko phechaly 4 saal se Yargmaal bana rakha ha. Political system is ineffective and Peoples are suffering, because of this targeted judicial activism.

    @Shahji,

A government and especially a democratic government is not elected to earn respect just cause of the peoples mandate. It is supposed to earn the accolades and adulation of the people by alleviating their miseries, not compounding them. As for judicial activism and the CJ himself being an obstacle in the path of governance.....Bullocks!

An immunity is granted to or enjoyable by a person for a specific time and after someone ceases to hold a specific position he loses the right of immunity. On the other hand there are also rules applicable to the governance of cases. It is in many countries that after the lapse of a certain period the validity of the cases shall cease to exist and no further prosecution shall be allowed. Now apply this scenario in our President's case. If Mr. Zardari has immunity then why is he worried of writing the letter? They should have written and as you quoted the Swiss Magistrate has also confirmed the presidential immunity, hence, no one shall be able to prosecute Mr. Zardari while he is a president. The real issue is that Zardari & Co. wants to delay this matter to a date when the cases shall become time barred and after that Swiss Courts shall not listen it.

That is the real story as why Zardari & Co. are not writing the letter. They know very well that no prosecution will be started, but as Mr. Zardari will complete his period of presidency, very next day he will be summoned by Swiss Courts.

Again govt and establishment on collision course.. PM calls Kayani and Pasha's statement to SC in memogate case illegal..

Army, ISI chief statements to SC not approved by govt: PM

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Monday said that any official action by a government functionary without the prior approval of the government was unconstitutional and illegal.

PM Gilani pointed out that the responses given by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and DG ISI Ahmed Shuja Pasha to the Supreme Court in connection to the alleged memo controversy did not contain the approval of the competent authority as required.

No summary seeking approval of a competent authority was initiated by the Ministry of Defence, nor was any approval obtained from the defence minister in this regard.

Its legal but I am sure CAOS and DG ISI too must have been advised about this matter, they filed their replies through Attorney General, had their been something illegal about their replies it would have been challenged by govt in SC and/or CJ and SC could have pointed it out to them and asked them to file their replies again..

In the end how many people can Zardari Pardon, because it's only a matter of time that this privilege is taken away from the President, or at the very least a case is made that it be taken away from the President too Pardon anyone.

Is democracy dead again in Pakistan?
    Do we deserve democracy?
    Are we ready for democracy?
Do majority of public understand what democracy is?
Do majority of public care what democracy is?
    Does democracy solve public problems?
What is the future of democracy in our country?

What a country we live in where army establishment can sack everyone including PM, President and Parliaments.

Firdous Ashiq in a press con after cabinet meeting today said that govt will consider one of the six options that SC had laid out yesterday.( Maybe govt thinks that by announcing early election date things will cool down. But anything short of resignation of Zardari and Gillani won't solve the problem..

Definately resignations won't be a good sign for democracy and will show its weakness but blunders and illegal actions committed by PM and Presidents are even more disastrous for democracy, they themselves have become suicidal.
