Flour may make it to ‘luxury items’ list

  1. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

    Looks like Punjab Govt. is continuing on the path of Federal Govt.'s initiatives i.e., hoard, hide or increase price of every basic commodity that is critical! for common man;

DAWN News: Flour may make it to ‘luxury items’ list

    Saturday, 09 Jan, 2010
    --------------------------------------------------

LAHORE: Rocketing prices of essentials being the most common gripe these days, the government on Friday dropped a bombshell of Rs9 per 20kg increase in flour price – the second jump in the last five days. The move has been effected by the Punjab government’s grant of 45 paisa raise per kilogram to the millers on grinding charges. At a meeting with the millers who had been asking for increase in grinding charges because of high electricity tariff and losses under fine flour and brawn heads, the government agreed to compensate them by Rs9 (on a 20-kilogram bag).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

If this continues, there'll be no food left for people to have in the comming times, which means -> violent! revolution is just around the corner

Besides many other factors, rapid growth in our population is also contributing to increasing poverty in the country. Every new day, we have many more mouths to feed without adequate increase in economic growth. Thus, situation is expected to worsen with every year passing.

The distress is that we have ZERO awareness in this regard. On the other hand, people are told to reject ‘family planning’ and motivated to have more and more children to increase the size of Ummah, an Ummah for whose children will have SCARCE facilities of foodstuff, education, and health. What can be expected from a very big number of our children that will attain their youth in such a poor milieu?

In these circumstances, besides the government, we should also blame ourselves for rising food prices.

  3. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

That's BS! adnak. Please update your knowledge.

We have more land, natural resources lying 'unused', which are being wasted!. The REAL problem Pakistan is facing is 'miss-management' of Pakistan's resources, rather than 'increase in population'.

Doesn't it strike you as odd that Pakistan Govt. just recently tried to sell 700,000 acres of fertile land to Saudi Arabia ? This news was widely reported in local media. Imran Khan commented on the issue.

Why is this land not being given to Pakistanis' ?

Why isn't this land used for catering to needs of Pakistani people ?

Why aren't Islam's ways related to land affairs implemented in this country ?

Where is the 'Zakaat' system ?

    Dear Haris Khan

I started my comment with words, “Besides many other factors, rapid growth in our population is also contributing to increasing poverty in the country”

And I concluded my comment with the words. “In these circumstances, besides the government, we should also blame ourselves for rising food prices”

Your comment in response clearly shows that you are not able to comprehend English, although you once claimed that you are an Aitchisonian. I wonder if Aitchion college produce such graduates!

Coming back to your comment, do you think that by giving 700,000 acres of land to people without needed infrastructure, electricity and financial resources will solve all of Pakistan’s problems?

Regarding Zakat system, your ex-amirul momineen, Zial-ul-Haq, while introducing the Zakat system claimed that within a few years poverty will be alleviated and there will be left no person needing Zakat. What is the situation today? Now you wish another Drama, in the name of Islam, by bringing Taliban rule in the country!

I can clearly see that you were irritated by my comment only because you support those stupid mullas who preach for a dozen children to each married couple to increase the size of Ummah. They are ignorant of the fact that numbers do not count any more, it is the quality that matters. Look at Jews, their population is the smallest and they rule the world. Just use your head, WHY is it so?

Please remove your biased glasses and read my previous comment and try to understand what I said. Prove me wrong if you can.

  6. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@adnak: You are engaging in 'legal trickery'. 'legal trickery' = BS!. I don't care for BS.

I say that which is right. I reject that which is wrong.

Rapid growth in population you say ? Only a man without foresight would raise this stupid point.

Let me inform you of one basic function of 'leaders' -> to foresee the nation's future needs. To plan for taking care of those needs. Have Pakistani leaders performed this function in the last 60+ years ?

Even today, people of Pakistan are living without electricity, without infrastructure. That point is BS!

Wasn't it Faislabadi (I forget the name of the city) people who built an International Airport for themselves with their own money ? What did the Govt. do to help them ?

When people would have land to grow crops from, they would not be dependent on others for their well-being. When they wouldn't be dependent on others, they would be FREE! of ALL! manipulation. Infrastructure can be built. The time people have already spent in misery can't be brought back.

Price of food went up because of military operations, because of war in Afghanistan, because of injustice in Pakistan, because of large! scale miss-management of the state, its money, its resources, its land, its people, because Pakistan Govt. spent more in conducting war than they had, because Pakistan's Govt. officials live the life of luxury and want to continue to be in luxury, not because of population growth.

The term 'Ameer-ul-Mo'mineen' is not limited to Zia-ul-Haq only. Any! leader of a Muslim nation is 'Ameer-ul-Mo'mineen'. The term 'Ameer-ul-Mo'mineen' means 'Ameer' (leader) of Mo'mineen. Pakistan is a nation of Muslims who idealize to become Mo'mineen. Many others have shared this title, those who have been far more detrimental for Pakistan than Zia-ul-Haq. Why single out Zia-ul-Haq ?

Zia-ul-Haq is irrelevant here. Zia-ul-Haq didn't cause our current problems. I say that because many governments have come and gone since his time. They had many chances to resolve the wrongs of Zia-ul-Haq, yet no one chose to improve on them, even after having multiple years in public office.

  7. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@adnak: You talk about jews ? Their 'good' 'quality' ?

If I have power in Pakistan, I can bring peaceful! revolution within 2! days, that will set Pakistan on a path towards prosperity. Prosperity that will show you the quality of this nation. You can then compare it all you want with that of Jews.

It took Jews what ? 400 years to build their 'quality' ? It will take Pakistan only 50! years to completely over-take them in EVERY! field known to man today.

That is what I can visualize. That is what I know about this nation, for a fact.

The quality Pakistani people can produce is the reason which has compelled all the military of the western world to amass around Pakistan's borders.

  8. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@adnak: Lastly, you can malign MULLAHs as much as you want. What does that change ? Absolutely nothing!

Being MULLAH doesn't require beard. EVERY! citizen of Pakistan who is a Muslim, is MULLAH.

MULLAHs are the future of Pakistan.

  10. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@asif khan: Muslim civilization cannot exist without MULLAH.

MULLAH is a term assigned ONLY to those who are most knowledgeable about Islam, most loyal to Islam, most loyal to Muslims, who know the intricate workings of this universe according to ALLAH ALMIGHTY's words.

The term 'MULLAH' should not! be abused by using it to name those who defy Islam's principles, laws, ways, etc etc.

Mulla is a term used for those who are not knowledgeable about the international relations, economy, politics etc. They are the people who do not contribute to country’s economy. They are inadequately educated. Mullas are those who have made ‘mullaiyat’ as a profession. Mullas are those who create hate against people of different firqa. They are the biggest promoters of terrorism in Pakistan.

  16. Beena,
    Please,
Name any Slogan, Promise or mission which has been accomplished to its true extent and spirit, since 1947.

It is very easy to criticize than to face criticism.

The main reason why Pakistan not flourishing, is due to a chronic and habitual habit of just discussing and criticizing the Past History and Demised Personalities.
Pakistanis are , unfortunately, suffering due to a fatal psychology of denial.
Some favorites are worshiped without honoring their instructiona and advices where non-favorites are condemned,
why ' atta goondhtey hooe hilte thee?

Just show me only one advice from the most respected Qauid-i-Azam "Unity, Faith and Dicsipline" in any sector of life for the last 63 years?
to Put Hands and brain in action and not the lip service change the fate of a nation.

Just compare the input of 1.5 Billions of Muslim and 13.3 millions of Jews.

  17. @Sheikh sahib,
according to my limited knowledge ,there is only one slogan ,which has been accomplished....it was
Lay kay rahien gay Pakistan ...Butt kay rahay ga Hindustan .

after that no promise has been fulfilled .

so our leaders has to be careful in making tall promises and artificial slogans ,so they can not be judged on that high stature of promises .

Roti ,kapra aur Makaan never been fulfilled ...
though PPP was given 4 chances .

One guy above puts blame on Islam by connecting flour management issue to Islam's values on Family.

Obviously that member doesn't know that we are not having any shortage or scarcity due to population, we have more produce than consumption.

That is why I call them secular hypocrites who leave no cover unturned to hit Islam and it's way of life.

Javaid Sheikh sb. we are talking about flour and the current situation. We needn't go as far back in history as Quaid-e-Azam's time. For this problem, the perpetrators can be traced to only a few years back.

Jews have had over 400 years of manipulation of this world. Muslims, especially those in Pakistan have only had 60+ years of freedom, that they weren't even aware of. Muslims of Pakistan have only now started to feel 'freedom', now that they have 'started' standing on their own two feet. Have patience, please.

    Dear JJ/Salam

Like Haris Khan you too did not understand what I wrote above. I said, “Besides many other factors, rapid growth in our population is also contributing to increasing poverty in the country” and I said, “In these circumstances, besides the government, we should also blame ourselves for rising food prices”

That means that extraordinary growth rate in population is one of the causes of poverty because, for example, our crop yield remains constant and annual population increase fast, it will result in costlier flour price ever passing year. We must control our population to contribute in poverty reduction. If you interpret it as blame on Islam, then it is your fault.

Yesterday I read in news paper that eggs also reached to Rs.98/dozen. I think soon all the commodities will fly beyond the common man's purchasing power.

One of the problems at this discussion Forum is where some of the Scholars don't follow the flow of Debate.

Now read the sequence and the context before jumping to a verdict:
