President Asif Ali Zardari has approved 12 projects worth Rs22.151 billion to be executed under the “Green Karachi Programme”.
Out of the 12 projects for Green Karachi, 5 are to be funded by the federal government while 7 others by the Sindh government. The 5 projects to be funded by the federal government include Central Park Karachi with the cost of Rs3289 million, Shaheed Benazir Memorial River Valley Park (Rs8695 million), Karachi Night Safari at Thado Dam, Gadap Town (Rs3998 million), Karachi Animal Park at Karachi Zoological Garden (Rs934 million) and Manghopir Resort at Hub Reservoir on Manghopir Hills (Rs1500 million).
The total cost of these five projects stood at Rs18416 million. While seven projects to be funded by the Sindh government are Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park at Boat Basin with the cost of Rs877 million, Beautification of Lyari River (Rs988 million), National Park (Gutter Baghicha - Lyari)(Rs440 million), Hill Park Karachi (Rs200 million), Tree Plantation on major roads of KHI (Rs980 million), Jehangir Park Saddar (Rs100 million) and Gulshan-e-Jinnah (Polo Ground) (Rs150 million).
