    Actually the majority people in Pakistan can read Urdu, because most people learn to read Qur'an. Arabic & Urdu have almost same script.

    But we see that NGOs doing survey on WRITING not reading. If they start survey on ability to read then the ratio is at least above 80% in my opinion.

    I like to see a survey on how many people can READ Qur'an in Pakistan.

    I would like them to know The Quran & Hazrat Muhammad's (PBUH) life in its enitrety in their mother tongue.

    Yes, in reading the percentage of people would be quite high.

    In our village almost all elders read The Quran but knows only what the mullah delivers in his Jumma speeches.

    I agree that it would ideal for them to also learn all that. Government is responsible for the education, this high reading percentage is because of traditional learning of Qur'an recitation and same Arabic/Urdu script.

    All the fixes are very easy but the conflict of intersts make it difficult. is their anyone who want to lose its followers then be it state or mullah?

    Our Mullah & state doesn't convey the meaning of just a single word "Iqra" that is read, understand, implement & spread.

    Thats what is needed just a single lecture by all the mullahs & state on "Iqra" time & again.

    A cultural change is required in order to become able from disability of "dependence".

    Another bout of white-worship? Well why not since we still haven't broken ourserves of the habit of looking at our sworn enemies and seeing only friends. Friends, white in colour, who have killed at least one million Muslims in Iraq and now probably at least 100.000 people in Haiti, to name only a few of their recent victims.

    Sir your criticism seems strong, we are only praising this individual and not his country of residence or they actions in Iraq, can you please elaborate about the 100,000 people killed in Haiti.

    Profuse apologies if I sounded too harsh. You are in favour of this Greg Mortenson, well, then, why not?

    As for the Haiti deaths, the news has hit even the mainstream media by now: The US most likely engineered the earthquake (as they might have done the last one in Pakistan, etc) for reasons of their own.

    just going little off the subject to respond to point above..

    tony blair said that we had to do that on one pretext or the other... his statement is on record.

    West can not move forward but without unjust wars, that is how they control their populations & economies. New bills/laws pass quickly and easily as compared with peace time when each bill has to face endless debates & criticism...
