IDP RELIEF WORK...... HELP PLZ FROM THIS FORUM

(15 posts)
  1. Like many others I have problems digesting my food over the IDP situation.

There are probably other threads to do with IDPs, so apologies if I am duplicating threads..... but,

    1. Can we all share what we are doing respectively in our lives to help the IDPs?!?

Whatever our political opinions, the displacement of these people is there and their suffering is dire.

    2. Discuss what we are doing for their relief and get our heads together about any unified effort via this site.

    3. I NEED A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF MEDECINES REQUIRED IN THE VARIOUS CAMPS. There are sites but the lists are not detailed enough. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT PLZ?

    4. ALSO, NEED FURTHER PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS FOR AID WORKS. IF A TEAM IS TO GO FROM ABROAD, WHAT ARE THE PRIORITIES TO SORT OUT FOR THE IDPS ON ARRIVAL?

    5. OBVIOUS THINGS LIKE SANITATION FACILITIES, WOMEN'S HEALTH RELATED PROVISIONS, CHILDREN'S HEALTH, COOKING UTENSILS/PROVISION......... BUT WHAT ELSE?

  2. I am working with a local us sponser for Al noor hospital in Peshawar. http://mmaali.webs.com/

    Peshawar:
At Sirbuland pura Girls school , there are 80 families migrated from Swat. More families are at Sirbuland Boys schools and Pahari Pura Boys schools.

    1) We have a program to open a free medical dispensery for them for one month. Doctor and nurses have been arranged. The daily expense will be between 3000 to 5000 rupees per day. The cost is mostly free medication. (done)

    2) We could also arrange Food Lungers, 4000 to 5000 rupees per day. There is one person currently donating 4000 rupees worth of Bread every day but he can't go on for long time so Please help. (done)

    3) Arrange water coolers and fans to cope with the hot weather (done)

    4) Put some cash in their pockets so they could take care of their own needs.(done)

    Mulla!

PS: we are doing much more but quietly and the above mentioned acts are for encouragement only!

  4. @Oriel,

I have been in contact with few people who are working with IDP's.

    1. First of all we need female Gynaecologists + Paediatrican and General Physicans
    2. Secondly you need a base camp for these doctors to work.
    3. As regards to medicine, you need any kind of Antibiotics (Mainly oral tablets or Injectables) Pain Killer, Folic acid and Iron tablets (There are more then 10000 pregnant women out there)
Please note that If you are donating medicine then it has to be a reliable source or else doctor's from here. My Personal experience was bad during Kashmir earthquake where the local Doctors and Quakes, took these medicine for their own use or for selling them in black market.
    4. You need few Tandoors established where one can provide "naan/Roti" to the. I am surprised with Mulla's calculation. 4 to 5 thousand rupees can not serve more then 20 people a day unless you are providing just bread to 30/40 people.
5.Also you need some cash for these people to start building their houses which I think should be left for Govt and instead one should try to invest in Water tube wells/ regular wells and building of schools and health centers.

For the time, you can work on the above mentioned points.

  8. @Mulla:

Quit worrying about other's opinions of your works/efforts.

You responded to my question about what members of the forum are doing to help the IDPs. I just wanted an idea of what is being done. Just to gauge.

    Carry on the good work!

  14. @oriel

You can use all of these medications as long as they are not expired and their due date is atleast 2/3 months away.
Pharmaceutical companies and pakistan do give generous drugs donation. My brother recently got a donation from a company of RS 250000n worth. Not sure about the companies in UK. Last time I got a lot of equipment and medicines from my hospital. You can certainly speak to your local hospital and also ask for stuff which can be autoclaved (like surgical equipments which they dispose but are autoclaved in India and Pakistan.
