    ISLAMABAD - Upset by the rising popularity of Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and to frustrate any possible move by the undemocratic forces to take advantage of the fragile political situation in the country at the moment, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are coming closer together after weeks of tension that gained momentum after the latter launched a ‘Go Zardari Go’ movement, sources told Pakistan Today on Monday. Both parties are trying to reach a truce as the PML-N central leadership has reportedly assured the PPP that it would not sabotage the upcoming Senate elections.

    A source in the PML-N told Pakistan Today that some interlocutors were working to bring both parties to a ceasefire and the PML-N’s decision to postpone its Gujranwala rally scheduled for November 25 was the outcome of such efforts. “The initiative was taken by a PML-N senator who held secret meetings with the PPP leaders to find middle ways for peaceful coexistence,” said a source in the PML-N. He said the PPP leadership had conveyed to the PML-N top brass that the latter’s aggressive anti-Zardari movement would serve no purpose for either party and there were no chances of any constitutional change as a result of the move before next year’s scheduled Senate elections. “The PPP leadership told the PML-N leaders that the government could announce short-term polls after March 2012 and the exhibition of street power by the PML-N to sabotage the upcoming Senate polls might cause the derailment of democratic order in the country,” he added.

    Another leader of the PPP said the growing popularity of Imran Khan’s PTI also brought the PML-N closer to the PPP. He said the PML-N had assured the PPP that its leaders would continue making anti-government speeches and statements but they would not cross the line that could put the existing democratic system in jeopardy. He said the PML-N’s swift act of filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court on the memogate issue was also meant to give time to the government. PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah told Pakistan Today no secret negotiations for a truce were underway between the PPP and the PML-N. “We have stopped our movement because of Muharram… the PML-N opted to take the memogate case to the apex court as its repercussions on the government would be very detrimental if the charges are proved against President Zardari and former Pakistan ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani,” he said, adding the PML-N was least concerned about Imran Khan and his “rhetoric”.

    PMLN is also probably not going to field a candidate for Shah Mahmood Qureshi's seat. And after telling everyone else to resign he cant stand himself or go for a nominee hence paving the way for PPP to regain the seat.

    unfortunately PML ( A - Z ) and PPPP have common aim, "looto" tey "phooto"... they are seeing a 3rd power and of course that gona put them in panic mood.

    I hope PTI will keep things clean in their own backyard

    Imran Factor is based on U-Turn policy, Although Imran will damage the vote bank of PMLN and PPP but Imran's statement of sweeping next election is more a desire than a reality.

    PMLN, PPP, MQM and ANP have stable support that is why these parties are holding great public jalsas. In next election PTI will gain some seats to come in parliament to sit aside INshAllah.

    That will be the time when PTI will be in position to tell PMLN how to do the real-opposition :)

    awaiting that time .. ;) InshAllah.. sab kaho.. InshAllah..

    PTI walay bahiyoo InshAllah kehna achi baat ha.. ap be kahoo. shabash !!!

    "..he said, adding the PML-N was least concerned about Imran Khan and his “rhetoric”. " - Mr. Mushaidullah and his redundant claims will lead to his downfall. His utter opposition to anything PTI is comedic. One who cannot acknowledge the tremendous support the PTI has gained and seems to be gaining with aggressive momentum is not in touch with reality.

    believe me I am very happy when PML-N refuse to acknowledge changing political envoirnment, when they dont bother lable of friendly opposition, when they blame & criticise establishment, when they believe PTI is merely a facebook party, when N$ never bother to show up in tv talk-shows, when N$ expects media and awareness of people to be that of 90's & when N$ believe people dont care about his deals with gen Musharraf & his corruptions & London property & so on & so forth .................................................

    @sandman

    When there is huge gathering people always moving, it does not mean they were leaving. Mubashir Luqman is worst person in the Pakistan media, he is the same person who abused Chief Justice during restoration of judiciary movement

    He was first with musharaf now with Imran just copy-cat of Hasan Nisar.

    Hope you will come up with credible analysis of the jalsa. Beside ap follow kerain Mubashir Luqman ko.. it does not damage PMLN's support.

    Yeah, they were moving, but all in one direction....out of the jalsa.

    Whatever ML may be, it still doesn't change the fact that the video shows people were leaving. This was also shown on ARY live telecast briefly...

    After the tacit support of piplyas to IK the backlash has been more brutal and spontaneous that more jiyalas are fledding Pee-Pee-Pee and joining the inqilabi-cum-GHQ tahreek.

    The piplyas are now coming to the terms that their initial support to inqilabi tahreek did more damage to themselves than PML(N) hence these kind of articles are being planted to beg PML(N) for a ceasefire.

    Haroon Ur-Rasheed is "chacha kuppi" because he supports the principled stand of IK and Irfan Siddiqi is a "cheeta" because he supports Nawaz Sharifs corruption and deceptions ?....lol.

    @S73

    Don't spin it, my friend. Does he need to attend a NS jalsa to write for him?

    Btw: He did follow NS when he tried to come back to Pakistan from England. Not a jalsa, but he did follow him - didn't he?

    @Scandinavian

    Irfan Siddiqi never wrote or supported NS you can go through his previous columns, infact he is neutral guy. So in this case he should be labelled "CHEETA" :-)
