LONDON: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan has thrown himself full-time into the election campaign of Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith, the younger brother of his ex-wife Jemima Khan.

The former cricket skipper, known in some circles as Taliban Khan, is heavily engaged with Muslim voters in London’s Richmond Park battleground constituency where the young Goldsmith is fighting hard to unseat the incumbent Liberal Democrat MP Susan Kramer.

Khan, who is in London these days, campaigning vigorously with Goldsmiths has already twice door-stepped the congregation during his last two visits to London and plans to persuade the mainly Pakistani and Indian origin mosque-goers to vote for Zac Goldsmith.

His campaign team confirmed to The News during Friday prayers on March 12, Jemima Khan will accompany her brother and former husband. The general election in the UK is expected to be held on May 6 and the incumbent Labour Party is battling hard to minimise a few points lead Conservatives hold at the moment.

Zac Goldsmith, 35, whose full name is Frank Zacharias Robin Goldsmith, is one of the heirs to the wealth of billionaire Jewish financier, Sir James Goldsmith. The younger brother of Jemima Khan is one of the highest flying members of Conservative leader David Cameron’s inner circle, all of whom trace their roots and commonalities to an upper-class upbringing and education at the Eton College.

Radically conservative and opposed to immigration, Conservatives under David Cameron have liked to brand themselves as the modernists and inclusive but a significant section of the Tories remains right-wing.

They are opposed to Cameron’s modernist overtures and the cutting-edge influence of his close friends such as Zac Goldmith and others. They see Zac Goldsmith’s decision to ask Imran Khan to accompany him to the Kingston Masjid as a sign that the new-look Tories under Cameron will go to any limits to pursue votes, even using those, like right wing leader Imran Khan.

After divorcing each other in June 2004 amicably, both Jemima and Imran Khan remain close to each other and during his frequent visits to London, the former cricketer enjoys staying always at his former mother-in-law Lady Annabel Goldsmith’s posh residence in affluent upper-class Richmond suburb.

Imran Khan denies publicly that he is supportive of the Taliban and al-Qaeda but he is well-known for his intransigent views and he has used every opportunity to voice support for a dialogue with the Taliban.

Speaking to The News, Imran Khan said he was supporting Zac Goldmsith’s campaign whole-heartedly because “he does not need a career in politics... hence will take a stand for justice. Since he is like a younger brother I know his views and what he stands for.”

Pakistanis in UK usually support Labor party.I don't know why imran choose to support for conservative.Secondly Imran Khan should have avoided this in the intrest of her larger then life image in pakistan. There are a lot of people politically affiliated with other parties who praise IK for his personal comitment for justice and equality.

yeah, conservative party won't let any other MQM leader settle down in UK like Altaf Bahi.It really would diminish your chance of being UK citizen in future.
Why do we need to leave Pakistan when it is in crisis.Pakistan needs to be saved by Pakistani.Being blind to our problem and settling down in other countries won't solve problem.

Conservative Party, theoretically considered a UK right-wing party (like Jammat Islami of Pakistan), has never remained popular amongst Muslims and Immigrants of UK. A friend in same constituency told the scribe that Imran Khan came to Kingsten Mosque on Friday’s pray and appealed the Muslim esp Pakistani community to vote Zak Goldsmith, a Conservative’s candidate but most of the people rejected Khan’s appeal and vowed to vote the incumbent Suzan Kramer, which is popular amongst Muslims and Immigrants not only of constituency but also throughout UK for her stance over Counter Terrorism Bill 2008 and Iraq War. New York Times also cited that Imran Khan’s favorite candidate Zak, who is multimillionaire person of UK having wealth of 300 million pounds, has spent from 24000 pounds to 40000 pounds on his election on which opposite candidate Suzan complained that Zak’s wealth is affecting the election.

Imran Khan is only trying to show that he is still loyal to Jamema Khan by taking part in electoral campaign of Zak

where are PTI members? Can you guys tell us what is the purpose of Imran Khan to go for a vigorous campaign for Zachria Goldsmith? I accept that IK can go there to meet his sons .. but his relationship with Jamima is even broken... So why he is spending his days and nights for Zachria Goldsmith?

Many moons ago I met IK in Jinnah Soceity Meeting in London where he gave the speach. After the speach, during Q&A, I asked IK (BTW I really admire IK for his social services to People of Pk) that why he always comes across as political naive and simpleton. IK got bit emotional while answering my question and did not address the root of the matter. Now nearly 6-7 years later of that meeting, I still believe that IK is politically naive person. Politicians are always very careful about the association with people and company they have and what kind of message is passed to their friends and foes.
Unfortunately IK forgets this time and time again and then suffer the loss of integrity and clean politician image. I wish there are good people around him to advise him correctly and not to make silly mistakes.

    * Afghanistan

Since the terrorists attacks of September 11th the Conservative party has supported the coalition military action in Afghanistan. The Conservative Party believes that success in Afghanistan is defined in terms of the Afghans achieving the capability to maintain their own internal and external security.[52] They have repeatedly criticized the current Labour Government for failing to equipment British Forces adequately in the earlier days on the campaign—especially highlighting the shortage of helicopters for British Forces resulting from Gordon Brown’s £1.4bn cut to the helicopter budget in 2004.[53] The Conservative’s support General Stanley McChrystal’s counterinsurgency strategy and Liam Fox was one of the first British politicians to support this strategy.

  29. Dear Gunnerz30 and the Fan Club.

Bhai jee, why is that no one from PTI is criticising IK for this action. Put your hand on your heart and tell me that you would have the same response if Altaf H or Nawaz S or Zardari had done the similar thing.

The issue is not to criticise IK but to make IK and PTI aware to stay away from the controvesies and be wise about the things being a politician one should avoid and mind ful of. Why giving your opponents ammunition and taking away the focus from their bad governance to your silly actions.

  30. Parallels to Conservative and Labor parties of UK are the Republican and Democratic parties in the USA. The common beliefs are that our value system (such as anti nudity etc) is much closer to the Republicans (an also to the Conservatives) but the social and immigration stances of Democrats are very appealing to us also. However, after Nine-Eleven I concluded, in a very simpleton term, the following:

“The Democrats will take our clothes off but The Republican upto taking our heads off.”

If you are given a choice between the two aforementioned options which one will you take?

Imran shows off his self-aggrandizing hypocracy.

While screaming himself hoarse against the War in Afghanistan by NATO and their Allies.

Imran uses his celebrity amongst British Muslims to promote a member of a party that full-heartedly supports the war.

    What principles!?

Just because Zac happened to be his brother-in-law? HYPOCRATE!!!
