Iran's new deal

    Iran has recently made a deal with Turkey and Brazil, in which Iran has given up on a lot of its previous demands. In this deal, Iran would ship 1,200 kilograms of enriched uranium to Turkey for storage in exchange for delivery a year later of nuclear fuel rods for a medical research reactor in Tehran. That's the same amount of enriched uranium Tehran promised to give up temporarily last fall.

    Now Iran wouldn't be able to use those fuel rods to make a bomb. This was very much the same deal that Iran offered to the west, but they didn't accept it.

    I think Iran does not want sanctions imposed on it.

  3. Thank you very much for this. Actually, I doubt whether Iran or its allies are at all interested in the snactions as such. What they are trying to do in my reading of the situation is defusing a Third World War, if at all possible. Iran is as ready as it can be for any military attack. But if it is attached that mad thing WWIII is almost a given. So that's where the whole thing is going. And power structures are changing even as we watch.

    Strategy shift in the Middle East - 17.5.10

    The failure to reshape the Greater Middle East has left the field open to a new alliance, the Tehran-Damascus-Ankara triangle. Since nature is allergic to vacuums, Moscow is filling the space left vacant by Washington. The wind has changed and it’s blowing strong. In a matter of a few months, the entire regional balance of power has tipped.

    @Mirza Ghalib

    Iran does have a lot of faith in Turkey. I think this deal can be good for the whole world. I don't think any sanctions will be imposed on Iran.

  5. Quite my own feeling, skunk. And Turkey has a lot of faith in Iran. I don't think sanctions will be imposed either. And as you say, we'll all benefit from the deal. May Pakistan learn from this example who its real friends might be.
