Thousands of people in the Indian-administered Kashmir have once again taken to streets to press for their unmet demand of independence from Indian rule, Press TV reported.

The protest rallies were held in the summer capital of Srinagar on Wednesday after prayers on the Eid al-Fitr which marks the last day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Police used tear gas and fired warning shots to disperse the protesters who were chanting pro-independence slogans. Demonstrators later threw stones at police forces.

The head cleric and the top pro-independence leader of Kashmir Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said establishing enduring peace in south Asia depends on the resolution of Kashmir issue.

“India and Pakistan must take the wishes and aspirations of people of Kashmir into consideration to resolve the issue of Kashmir; then only long-lasting peace can be expected in south Asia and we pledge to continue our peaceful struggle,” Farooq said.

The head cleric added that no Eid will be celebrated in the Indian-administered Kashmir until the issue is resolved and the perpetrators of crimes stand justice.

Hundreds of people in Kashmir staged a sit-in on Tuesday in protest against the disappearance of their loves one over the past two decades of unrest in the valley.

Nearly 50,000 people have been killed in Kashmir over the past twenty years while between 8,000 and 10,000 others have gone missing during the same period, according to the local reports.

  2. Mirza Jee,
No hope from the current government. They have actually killed 'Kashmir Cause' instead of promoting or supporting it.

  3. I know Mirza Sahib. We all know and regret it a great deal. But let the government adopt whatever policy they like during their term in office. It does not for a second mean that Kashmir is not a subject of preoccupation for any self-respecting Pakistani national on the one hand, for any self-respecting Muslim on the other. The current government will not be with us eternally. But our link to Kashmir stands above time and circumstance.

Thousands of Kashmiris Poured into the Streets, Shouting, “We Want Freedom!

SRINAGAR: Thousands of demonstrators on Wednesday staged noisy anti-India protests in revolt-hit Kashmir after prayers to mark the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramazan.

Thousands of Muslims poured into the streets, shouting, “We want freedom!” and “Allah is great,” after offering Eid prayers in the northern town of Sopore, about an hour’s drive from Srinagar.

The protests were led by separatist Syed Ali Geelani following prayers for the Muslim Eidul Fitr festival. Geelani addressed a huge gathering in Sopore’s main square, urging India to end its “occupation of Kashmir”. “People of India are our brothers. We have no animosity towards them. We only urge India to end its occupation of Kashmir,” Geelani said, as mainly young Kashmiri men chanted: “Go India, go back!”

Kashmiris were and they are with Pakistan but Pakistan has puppets of highest level ignoring them just to please their masters.
