I don't believe that you are that young :) Anyways you have put forward very good points, but I differ a little bit here:

"mitti pao behavior of our intellectual and vigilant media."

If they had been intellectual, then they would have cared a bit for the life after the trials on earth. They haven't because they only care for what they can harvest now. The harvest on the day of judgement will turn disastrous for them. When they face the wrath of The Almighty then they can give it a shot to call for their friends/masters/gods!

media can only release the information from such disastrous events that govt and institution officials release themselves.

media is only shouting why there is no detailed briefing being given on all these things and information is being shared in totality? why awam is not being taken into confidence.

yes media will spice things up, but its not really their fault.

yaar OBL ke abbotabad event ke baad media kept talking about the issue for next one and a half week.

they kept raising questions for the govt to answer.... but if the govt does not want to answer, then what can be done?

even in this Mehran case, media keep asking questions.... but there are too many questions and no answers. there is only so much that media can do.

  11. Point is, collectively, media should boycott propaganda wing of army, and dig up reality using their own resources, not feeling shy or scared of repercussions from the army if they do so. Someone has to take a bold step forward. Media is fully capable to do so.

Do not give face or pay attention to army propaganda channels. Simple (unless a lifafa is there waiting, for them, to be picked up by them).

  12. Bravo choosy. Good instinct you had there about this thread. As for the media, I no longer know what they are worth. My two favourites have been gone for several months now: Dr Shahid Masood and Orya and Salim Bukhari. So I only watch Darling with pleasure and that's just once a week.

Still, in defence of our media, they are better than much of what the west has to offer by way of talk shows. Although I wish they'd do mithi pau to all that small closed circle of politicians they love to interview over and over again.

  13. Good topic.

We can see a clearer picture of this 'Mitti Pao behavior 'in the light of the murder of Saleem Shahzad yesterday.

When ISI does not want a particular border line to be crossed by any journalist, they will teach him a lesson.

That’s why senior journalists have become very conscious about their life and they never touched sensitive issues.

If their anything happens, they do a show, just to prove that they are going with the times and happenings.

But they never dare to follow-up the sensitive stories like Baluchistan ,Chechen /Russian ppl killing, Abbotabad operation etc.

  14. Mitti Pao behavior can be best seen in yesterday's Live with Talak at Dawn news.

    ayein ,bayein ,shayein
    then no no
    then yes yes
    and then ok good bye.

  17. While waiting for Bahar Begum to formulate her reply, may I say something as well, choosy? After what happened to Saleem Shazad, can we really blame the Pakistani media from staying away from sensitive issues. If the price of telling the truth is death, how many of us are willing to take the risk, I wonder. What they can be blamed for, however, is always running after the latest story and letting grass grow over ongoing, less sensitive issues like, for instance, the state of our flood victims today a year after those painful events took place. So, the media are a mixed bag. At times brave, at others so cowardly, we rub our eyes and wonder how they get to sleep at night.

To be honest choosy, I can not stand most [not all but yes MOST] of the talk shows on GEO, AAJ, ARY, Dunya, Sama, abc, xyz, ... koee reh gaya??? Primarily because they talk for the sake of talking only. There is no focus on what should be focussed and there cant be. Because the liberty that we are asking for woh baton ya talk shows se haasil nahin ho gee.
But then I will second Mirza Ghalib on that- can we really blame the media? They continue with their yap yap yap because that is all they can do for now.
Nothing comes with out a price and the "intellectual giants of the media" are "wise" enough to not go that close to that boundary. I often think... is it actually fair of us to expect them to sacrifice their jobs, lives, social circles etc when we "the non-media" are not putting ourselves out to stand up for what we know is right... but ab yeh bhee ek lambi behes hai... aaj yeh qissa na chairen :)

So,If they don't talk then what they should do?.... Should they dance?....any suggestion

  22. choosy, quite right. I forgot the words you wrote on the Saleem Shahzad thread. Sorry. So actually we said the same things from slightly different angles. See how great minds meet. Hah!

Bahar Begum, thanks for endorsement. Also for enlarging the debate to include us the general public as much called upon to do our bit to get Pakistan out of its dreadful morass as the media are to fulfil their part of the bargain. We shouldn't be allowed to get away with blaming every other part of Pakistan and never taking a good hard look at ourselves as well.

Oblivion, how's it going? Hope you didn't get too upset after our last encounter.

    see my thread title .
i am not blaming media ONLY.

    @Mirza Ghalib,
aap ko tou pata hay dost!
mein ne apnay thread kay title pe likha
media aur public ka mitti pao behavior .

yani iss behavior ki zamaydari sirf media pe hi nahi, hum pe bhi hay.

  26. oblivion, you may be right. Well, death is no big deal. It comes and takes and that is that. We are no longer the masters of our destiny. What is terrible is to be still alive and to be walking around like a corpse.

    Choosy bhai,
You are right! Actually its awam that has to take action. Media has to point it out (their duty), we the stu..d awam has to take action - that is throw the government out (our duty) and unfortunately we are not doing our duty.
Oh wake up for God sake wake up!
