  4. If it is Mizan-e-Adel (meaning restoration of Judiciary) than the credit goes to PML-N+Lawyers.
PML-Q the former King's Party has no credibility as of now.
PML-N as per opinion polls is higher up the ladder than any other party.
PPP is known for its 'delay tactics' that later bows to public pressure after loosing much time. Bakri nain doodh main maingani dal key doodh diya to kaya diya'!
This is what the print media/electronic media (our sources of information) say.

Osama introduced Nawaz Sharif to Saudi royals: ex-ISI officer

LAHORE: Osama bin Laden introduced Nawaz Sharif to the Saudi royal family in the late 1980s and during a meeting the former Premier had asked the Al
Qaida chief to provide employment to Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia, former ISI officer Khalid Khwaja claimed on Sunday.

Khwaja, who was close to Sharif in the late 1980s and early1990s, made the claim in an interview.
"During his first visit to Saudi Arabia as Chief Minister of Punjab in the late 1980s, no one from the royal family had given Sharif importance," he said.
"Thereafter, on Sharif's request, Osama bin Laden introduced him to the royal family and that helped him in getting closer to the Saudis," said Khwaja, who was a squadron leader in the Pakistan Air Force before joining the ISI in 1985.

"A close aide of Sharif family and I arranged at least five meetings between Sharif and bin Laden in Saudi Arabia. "During a meeting with bin Laden as Prime Minister in the 1990s Sharif asked him to provide employment to Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia and undertake development projects in Pakistan," said Khwaja, who was dismissed from service by late military ruler Gen Zia-ul-Haq in 1988 for reportedly writing a letter in which he disagreed with Zia on certain policies.

Khwaja's disclosure came in the wake of a series of revelations by former ISI and Intelligence Bureau officials about payoffs to politicians by intelligence agencies and the role of the ISI in making or breaking governments. "Nawaz Sharif had always despised and discarded his well-wishers and bin Laden, (former ISI chief) Hamid Gul and I are included in that long list," Khwaja said.

Khwaja said Sharif got annoyed with him when he asked him not to toe the US line while serving as premier. "Leave America and join hand with Islamic forces, I argued. Sharif said no, I cannot," he said.
During the past two weeks, Pakistani politics has been rocked by "revelations" made by a number of former army and intelligence officers, including former IB chief Brig (retired) Imtiaz Ahmed, commonly known as 'Billa' (cat), former ISI chief Lt Gen (retired) Asad Durrani and former army chief Gen (retired) Mirza Aslam Baig.

These revelations include the distribution of money among politicians by the ISI to form an alliance against slain former premier Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party in the early 1990s.
Officials have also claimed earlier reports that the Muttahida Quami Movement was involved in efforts to create a separate homeland called Jinnahpur were false.

This controversy erupted in 1992, when Sharif was the premier.

    Nawaz Sharif faces murder inquiry

    By Syed Shoaib Hasan

    BBC News, Islamabad

Pakistan's Supreme court is set to hear petitions seeking the prosecution of the main opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, for murder. According to documents obtained by the BBC, the court will hear the accusations against Mr Sharif and then decide whether to pursue the charges. The petitions call for Mr Sharif's arrest and prosecution. He has denied ordering the murder of an ex-army officer after an alleged political kickbacks deal turned sour. Nawaz Sharif, twice elected as Pakistan's prime minister, has recently been acquitted of similar criminal charges by the Supreme Court. The court's decision was made on 21 July but it is expected to begin its inquiries imminently.
    '
    Vindication'

"This is a false and totally politically motivated accusation," Ehsan Iqbal, spokesman for Mr Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, told the BBC. "This is only the latest in a series of recent accusations against Mr Sharif. "The presidency and hidden hands are trying to pressurise him into backing down on his demand for prosecuting (former President) Musharraf." However, the main petitioner in the case, Shahid Orakzai, said that the court ruling was the vindication of a long struggle. "It has taken 12 years for the truth to prevail," said Mr Orakzai. His brother, Maj Khalidsaeed Orakzai, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the northern town of Kohat in 1997.

Shahid Orakzai, a freelance journalist, says his brother was murdered because he went public with a political kickbacks deal. The deal dates back to 1993 and allegedly involved Mr Sharif and senior party leaders. At that time Mr Orakzai arranged a deal between them and parliamentarians from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). The deal involved the payment of 10 million rupees to the parliamentarians in return for their support for the PML-N candidate for Speaker of Pakistan's parliament. But the PML-N reneged on payment after the the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate won the election. This led to Mr Orakzai going public with the deal and asking the chief election commissioner (CEC) to take action.

However, the CEC refused and the matter ended up in court. Eventually, the court accepted that the deal had taken place and Mr Orakzai's persistence led to awkward questions for Mr Sharif. Mr Orakzai alleges that Mr Sharif subsequently ordered his brother to be murdered. "It is utter rubbish and just part of a scheme to launch a character assassination of Mr Sharif," said Mr Iqbal. "Mr Orakzai has often made himself part of petitions against Mr Sharif and everybody knows his connections to the intelligence agencies. "If we are issued notices, we will deal with them, although we aren't too worried about them."

Given the current state of judiciary in Pakistan....no chance.

I think haris khan is referring to role of jamaat-e-islami in this movement.

  17. Agreed JJ Khan JI could have been part of this. They may have been issuing favorable statements but did they actually participated in rallies. All we have seen is a sea of black suits that makes me wonder do we have that much number of lawyers or the restoration of judiciary was all but a political stint among two political giants - the PML-N and PPP! Unilateral decisions by Mr. President in collaboration with his 'selects' minus the parliament, and a nonfunctional opposition as of by PML-N is not an indicator in this regard?

Jamaat is known for its best organization when it comes to organizing rallies. They prepared well with nawaz sharif for long march and did defy state apparatus in Lahore/Rawalpindi.

So may be the chief justice was restored through army chief's pressure but also credit goes to workers who came out in defiance of state.

You know how salman taseer gave free hand to police to shut down this long march and there were hundreds of raids/arrests before long march, but it came through because of initial stance of few.

These theories of army chief responsible for judges restoration are nothing but absolute rubbish and are being propagated by piplees just to hide their embarassment.

Where was the army chief when the independent judiciary movement was going on for a whole year?

The fact is that no one was expecting long march to be such a success and when that happened, military top brass got nervous. The long march was coming to rawalpindi and its first target would have been army house where musharraf was residing at the time. Military leadership was extremely worried about potential clashes between army and people of Pakistan.

That is why army played the role of facilitator and arranged for meeting of Shahbaz Sharif and Ch. Nisar with PM Gillani. Army also conveyed its reluctance in fighting against people. The result is that the deal was reached that restored CJ and other judges.

All the credit for this historic victory goes to people of Pakistan and to nobody else.

    Adonis,

You start your argument by calling army's role as rubbish, but later on you acknowledge the role.

I strongly agree with Adonis. He is right that where was army chief when the movement was on for a year. Didn't he know that judiciary's independence has some meanings. I again say that he is part of the game. The only thing which goes in his favor is his media projection.

If any channel or newspaper gives anything against Altaf Hussain, they face tough consequences in Karachi. Being the biggest city and having big market for every thing in Pakistan, no one dares to lose the business.

Altaf Hussain is the cleanest person as far as news in channels or newspapers is concerned.
