Media’s Double Edged Sword and MQM’s Ordeal

Former US president Richard Nixon, after resigning from presidency remarked “Watergate had become the center of the media’s universe, and during the remaining year of my presidency the media tried to force everything else to revolve around it.” alluding to the flagrant scandal. This was 1970s, with no Internet, facebook, twitter or social media. Unlike today, teenagers were not making outstanding remixed version of speeches on youtube. With advent of Internet and specifically social media, dynamics of media coverage have revolutionized. Instant access and availability of on demand news, media’s influence has increased stupendously.

In western countries like United States, this rabid power of media was realized long time ago. Politicians and lobbying groups spend hundreds of millions of dollars to promote themselves .. Read More

once said by a British politician. MQM is at one of the most weakened position at this time facing widespread criticism from all quarters. Their offense against media has raised even more suspicions that why have they attacked the messenger instead of the real adversary; ZM in this case.

This makes me feel that Asif Ali Zardari (AAZ) has succeeded hands down. His blindly thrown projectile has not only hit the target but pushed them off their foundation. MQM was the party that derailed the legislation; PPP government was trying to push through national assembly that would have made NRO a law. Had that legislation passed, it would have been impossible for Supreme Court to render the notorious ordinance null and void. Also in last two years, MQM has played ping pong with PPP and wound them around their finger with aggravating frustration on part of government.

AAZ in the end has played the masterstroke; he unloaded a blatant barrage of offensive through ZM yet he stayed away from any blame game by disowning ZM. As a result MQM has been forced to convolute partly due to its own shaken response. Once again after years, MQM has shrunken to being Muhajir Qaumi Movement with serious allegations unanswered against them. They themselves have alienated their ardent supporters in media with liberal inclination. Now MQM will have no choice but to conform and comply with AAZ’s wishes. Mr Zaradri has called checkmate. Bravo!

MQM is in major problems at the moment. What we have been saying for the last decade or so concerning MQM involvement in target killings and murder, has been confirmed by Mirza saab. So what there politicians are doing now are using the urdu speaking card and mohajir blackmailing tactic.

I hope our brothers and sisters realise who have supported MQM blindly that there representatives are lier's and killers.
Otherwise these innocent people will not get peace in Karachi.

As for zardari saab he has got these people by the balls, whatever we think of Mr10%, he surely is a very crude operator.
