NA-172: Hafiz Abdul Karim given PML-N ticket

(4 posts)
  1. That is the seat that has become vacant with the death of Farooq Leghari. And since PML-N ticket holder Hafiz Abdul Karim was the main opponent of Farooq Leghari for the seat so no surprise he got the ticket again.

    A lot of people think he would have beaten FL had it not been for vote rigging. Here are results from the last election:

    Farooq Leghari PML-Q 45370
    Hafiz Abdul Karim PML-N 41894
    Shabbir Leghari PPPP 36401
    Dr.Saeed Ahmed Buzdar Ind. 1403
    Muhammad Leghari Ind. 3623
    Abdul Salam Ansari MQM 1041

    But will he win this time? Sure would seem that way but here are some things to consider. His main opponent will of course be FL's son Awais Leghari who will be running on PML-Q ticket AND will have backing of PPP (Yes, I continue to maintain that the deal between PPP and PML-Q (Chaudhry-wing) HAS taken place and PPP's candidate from the last election, one Shabir Leghari who came in a close third with 36401 votes will NOT be running) As you can see the other three candidates really don't matter (BTW: FL's nephew Muhammed Leghari too is PML-Q though he ran as an Independent as PML-Q ticket went to FL and he ran last time just because of differences with FL -- not principles but monetary benefits -- but this time he too will be abstaining). The other two don't matter also.

    The question is will PPP jiyalas vote for Farooq Leghari's son? Remember last time Shabir Leghari, a nobody (a tablighi jamatia who has never worked a day in his life) joined PPP after he got the PPP ticket for the last election and got the anti-Farooq Leghari/pro-PPP vote (His brother is an Additional IG in police and had a lot to do with getting him the ticket). Before that he was with FL.

    Awais Leghari of course lost the last election from his NA-173. He made hundreds of millions under Mush as IT and Telecom minister and is corrupt to the bone. P!mping his first-cousins (Sumeira Malik and Ayla Malik) certainly helped a lot.

    Hafiz Abdul Karim runs a lot of madrasas and has become a billionaire with Saudi money. Word is his main source of income is through supplying madrasa girls to Saudi Arabia, U.A.E.

    So basically it is going to be p!mp vs p!mp.

    And what better illustration of democracy...

  2. A previous comment on the subject:

    @dOctOr
    "In the neighboring district of Dera Ghazi Khan, a hard-line mullah, Hafiz Abdul Karim, came within a few thousand votes in 2008 of unseating Farooq Leghari, a former president of Pakistan. His weapon? Efficient, Islamist campaign workers and free water pumps."

    Now you are talking my area. While true that hafiz Abdul Karim came very close to winning (some say he would have won if not for dhandhli), it is a fact that he has VERY deep pockets and spent crores of rupees on that election (On the last day he was offering free motorcycles for a vote in some precincts). But where does he get all the money??? He runs a girls Madrassah and the word is he supplies them to M.E., kind of like Firdaus Ashiq Awan.

    So much for "change"

    ("P.S. Farooq Leghari is done for too and his sons will NOT be winning any election -- remember his son Awais lost the election and the other one Jamal lost it too and is senator courtesy of Mush). FL himself is near death having suffered another heart attack recently and is now confined to Islamabad (his heart only working at 25%) so he won't be able to help them out.")

    @Shimatoree
    "Just look at this so-called change.
    Petty Criminals and gangsters are taking over for the land-owning gangsters."

    Could pass for a joke:
    Good News: We have a NEW leader!
    Bad News: It's Jamshed Dasti :-P

  4. P.S. Let's also keep in mind the factor of "seat-adjustment" between PPP and PML-N. How is it going to play? Let's wait and see. Right now it appears PPP will be supporting the PML-Q candidate.

    It is pretty certain PPP will not be fielding a candidate for the seat (or will field a nobody and with little support)
