This was a new constituency created in 2002. Sheikh Rasheed won it in general elections. But after joining PML(Q), his nephew was defeated from here in bye-elections. He lost to Haneef Abbasi by 16,000 votes and Abbasi also had support of PML(N). This time Abbasi is the PML(N) candidate.

In 2002, Zafar Ali Shah was the PML(N) candidate from here. Sheikh Rasheed used to call him 'Bagga Shah' becuase he was suffering from Vitiligo (or baras in urdu), a disease in which skin patches become pink). In response Zafar Ali Shah called Sheikh Rasheed 'Sheikhu Marasi'. It was entertainment for the masses but Sheikh Rasheed won easily because Shah was a relatively weak candidate, MMA polled sizeable votes and poeple were under the impression that Sheikh Rasheed would ultimately join PML(N).

The PPP candidate this time is again Sardar Shaukat Hayat, a little known lawyer who is unlikely to increase his vote percentage from last time.

Sheikh Rasheed is trying to balance the 'lota' charge on him by pointing outthat Haneef Abbasi won on a MMA ticket last time but has now joine PML(N). It is so far not having teh desired effect as PML(N) and MMA are not really seen as staunch rivals and PML(N) actually supported Abbasi last time. Abbasi is a comfortable favourite to win again.

RESULT: PML(N) Victory.

i have read there are lot's of nazim's in this area from the "Lal Haveli" group who are actually forcing their votes towards Sheikh Rashid, also Hanif Abbasi had the solid support of Jamiat organization during 2002 and even PPP did not put up a candidate against him during by-elections, now Hanif Abbasi is missing the JI's organizational support (he will get quite a few votes from JI but not the organizational support required in major elections). Still he is likely to win but won't be a cake walk as Sheikh Rashid also has backing from the presidency

this site is totally biased in favour of nawaz sharif. in my opinion shaikh rashid is far better than nawaz sharif,bb or choudries. he has done a lot of work in his constituency. so he will win.

If it is roads, garbage collection,etc in your constituency you are concerned about then vote Sheeda Tulli.If you want some one to use his conscience in the assembly. To put his efforts in writing laws for the betterment of Pakistan ,Thats what is the job of any member who sits in the assembly.Then give another thought

PPP did field a candidate against Haneef Abbasi in bye elections 2003 and still Abbasi beat Sheikh Rasheed's nephew. Jamaat/Jamiat organization is a benefit but is not essential as Haneef Abbasi has quite an efficient campaign organziation of his own.

but still u need to explain , why he lost in by-elections after 2002.
and isn't it true that he saying openly" mein jeet kar apni seats nawaz sharif kay qadmoon mein daal doon ga".

i think hanif Abbasi is also from rawalpindi and he is also a thara person jsut liek old times sheikh rasheed.
so wud u liek to explain what is the plus point sheikh rasheed is having now after losing by-elections here.

i think that in person sheikh has done development works but people now hate him due to his close attachment with dictator musharraf. and i think it wil be difficult for him to save his seats now.

i guess hanif abbasi will win this seat, he is better than shaikh rashid because he become lota and supported musharaf who is most hated person in this world.

Shaikh Rasheed if official "BHAAND of MUSH". He is used by GHQ. He fooled pindiwals last time by saying that he will put both seats in feet of nawaz sharif. He is exposed now. People should vote for rule of law and not for Dictatorship.

Haneef Abbasi has decided to join PML(N) before elections and openly. SR contested elections using the name of NS and declared openly that he will give both seats to NS after winning to prove his loyatly. But it couldnt materialized. So he may be considered a Lota but I dont think so about Hanif A. by definition. :)

Lota is a person who wins a seat on the ticket of PARTY A and after winning he joins PARTY B.

Hanif Abbasi is not a lota by any means. He has joined PML N before elections and going to people

I live in NA-56 Rawalpindi and have a close look at city politics since last 7 years.
I think that there will be a strong compitetion in NA-55 but in NA-56 Abbasi have edge over SR till now, as SR left this seat in 2002 and almost neglected this constituency
The PML(N)leader NS viist to both the consituentncies will also effect a lot and it may swung the whole situation in the favour of Abbasi.

AFTER BB's MURDER, SYMPATHY VOTE WILL GO TO PPP,BUT NOT TO AN EXTENT THAT PPP WINS THIS SEAT. HATRED AGAINST Q-LEAGUE WILL RISE, WHICH WILL AFFECT SHEIKH RASHEED BADLY.

With all the mismanagement, corruption by PMLQ and Musharraf, this time Sheikh Rashid will be biggest loser, What I am seeing is he will be at third position after PPP. Hanif Abbasi has a strong standing in tajir baradari and JI, now added with PMLN vote, he will sure win by a big margin.

Sheikh Rasheed's shameless support for Musharraf played a big role in his going down the drain. On private media his senseless comments on actually everything has made him the most hated one by the masses:

But your cheif CH. PEE , said in his interview that they will win 115 seats in Punjab. But you are giving only 75 seats to Q party.Yar Please increase Q party seats in Punjab to atleast 150 out of 149. Then there is chance for Ch. PEE to become P.M.

good to see u back with all the Calculations. Please increase the count for PMLQ. Since Musharraf has to regularize all the misdeeds of Nov-3 and after. Otherwise sword of Article 6 is hanging on his head. I am sure that you work for some agencies who have all the calculations done but still it falls short for two third majority.

This constituency is a sureshot PMLN majority and Sh. Rasheed is a sure loser here but if Agencies have this in mind also then we will be seeing 35000 plus votes added, just like in 2002 elections good luck and please work hard. Chaudhris, the BIGGEST CORRUPT group in the history of Pakistan do really need people like you for their support.
