New move for PML-N’s patch-up with Chaudhrys

LAHORE, Jan 20: Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood, a landlord-politician of Rahimyar Khan, has met the PML-Q’s Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi to convey them PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s message that he is ready to shake hands with them in view of the changing political scenario.

Senior leaders in the two PML factions confirmed the meeting.

Mr Mehmood, a PML-Functional leader considered to be close to the Sharifs, has been asked by the PML-N chief to meet the Chaudhrys and find out whether they are ready to part ways with the PPP and join hands with the PML-N.

According to a source privy to the meeting, Makhdoom Mehmood told the Chaudhrys that ice had melt and Mr Sharif had expressed his willingness to make an alliance with them.

“Joining hands with the Sharifs means you will have to say goodbye to the PPP government straightaway and discuss matters related to future elections or set-up with them (Sharifs),” the source quoted Makhdoom Mehmood as having said. He said Mr Sharif had also proposed the name of a veteran journalist, who is also an editor of an Urdu daily, as guarantor of the N-Q alliance.

However, the sources said, the Chaudhrys told Mr Mehmood that if Nawaz Sharif publicly promised not to ditch their party (PML-Q) at any point they were ready to hold talks with him (Sharif) over the alliance.

“The Chaudhrys also told Sharif’s messenger that he (Sharif) is not a reliable person and no one is ready to give a guarantee on his behalf that he will keep his word,” he said.

The sources said as the PML-N did not want to use the option of resignations (from the assemblies) to force the government into an early general election, it believed that if the PML-Q quit the government, the PML-N would achieve its goal.

“The PML-Q leadership is also taking the Sharifs’ offer as a trap,” he said.

Mr Mehmood told Dawn that he met the Chaudhrys as part of his “own efforts” to unite all Muslim League factions.

“It is my initiative and I have no specific directive from Nawaz Sharif,” he said in reply to a question.

He said that if all Muslim League factions especially N and Q, were united no other party had a potential to beat them.

Asked about ‘strong differences’ between the Sharifs and Chaudhrys, Mr Mehmood said: “There is no last word in politics.”

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said: “Mr Mehmood has discussed with us the possibility of PML-N and -Q alliance.”

To a question whether the PML-Q was considering quitting alliance with the PPP in the face of the PML-N offer, Mr Elahi said:

“We have not said yes to Mr Mehmood.”

On his part, PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the PML-N was ready to hold talks with the PML-Q provided Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain parted ways with the PPP.

Why does Nawaz Sharif want an alliance with a person who says
    NRO my brainchild: Ch Shujaat

NRO was Choudhry Shujaat's brain child and Nawaz Sharif is dying to hold Choudhry's hands. What a shame!

Nawaz Sharif is a true Zindeeq (the lowest hypocrite who will burn in the lowest depths of hell).

Is this on "One point agenda" to bring the current government down?

Can someone get the details about this item.

What I heard on Kal Tak with Javed Choudhry Jan 19th - Interview with NS, was limited to "One point agenda" with all parties to bring the current government down. Knowing very well, Ch. Shujaat will not bring the government down.

Imran has already said that he 'wishes that this govt should continue looting and plundering this country while we collect more Lotas coz currently Lotas are not enough and we haven't reached the 100 mark yet(his life time dream is to command 100 lotas in National Assembly,he even begged ex dictator musharraf to grant 100 Lotas and rig elections for him but all his dreams got shattered when mush refused).

Nawaz should contact both Q league and MQM in order to get rid of this failed govt.

Why you forget that in the recent past, your leader Ik made a historic statement by standing beside and holding hand of the same Ch Shujaat that "Only Pml(Q) is the real opposition in Pakistan"
So IK is a true Zindeeq (the lowest hypocrite who will burn in the lowest depths of hell).

    @Wasim Bhai,

Don't twist the facts, Imran and Choudry Shujaat met over 1 1/2 ago and that was when PMLQ was the only party sitting in the opposition, rest of them were in the government either in the centre or provincial gov't.

But Zindeeq are zindeeqs, and they would follow their instinct!!

One brother sends messages other one denies. Just like Shahbaz used to meet Kayani at mid night and Nawaz Zindeeq used to bark against the establishment!

Lahore: Pakistan's main opposition PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has expressed readiness for an alliance with his arch-rival Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's PML-Q provided it parted ways with the ruling PPP.

Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood, a landlord politician of Rahim Yar Khan district in Punjab province, conveyed the PML-N chief's message in this regard to Hussain, who had served as premier during the previous military regime.

Mehmood, a leader of the PML-F party, is considered to be very close to former prime minister Sharif and his brother, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Mehmood told Hussain and his cousin, federal minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, that the ice had melted and Sharif had expressed his willingness to forge an alliance between the PML-N and PML-Q.

Nawaz Sharif ready for alliance with PML-Q
"Joining hands with the Sharifs means you will have to say goodbye to the PPP right away and discuss matters related to a future set-up or fresh elections," a source privy to the developments said.

The PML-Q was formed by leaders who broke away from the erstwhile Pakistan Muslim League when Sharif's government was deposed in a military coup in 1999.

Mehmood said Sharif had proposed the name of veteran journalist Majid Nazami, the editor of the rightwing Urdu daily Nawa-e-Waqt, as guarantor of the alliance between PML-N and PML-Q.

However, the source said Hussain told Mehmood that if Sharif publicly promised not to ditch the PML-Q at any point, he was ready to hold talks with Sharif.

LAHORE - In a changed political scenario wherein the PPP-led coalition government seems to be in a comfortable position, the PML-N leadership is meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at Lahore to devise a new strategy in line with the existing realities.

The PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif who arrived back Sunday morning after a week-long foreign visit, has called his party’s senior leaders at his Raiwind residence on Tuesday to elicit their opinion on different issues of political importance.

It has been learnt that issues relating to 20th amendment in the Constitution, party’s stance on relations with the US (issue to be debated by the joint sitting of the Parliament), upcoming Senate elections, party’s response to the government on setting up of independent Election Commission and modalities of holding early elections would be discussed at length. Matters concerning negotiations with opposition parties to force the government to hold early elections would also be on the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting.

Sources told TheNation that PML-N leaders would assess the current political situation and chalk out a new line of action commensurate to the new situation.

The ground realities are that government is now out of the pressure it was in for the last couple of months due to memo scandal and the NRO case. The Senate elections in March this year also seem a reality now.

And the most important of all is the development that government has apparently mended its fences with the army whose cooperation is vital for any political change.

Political analysts believe that recent developments easing pressure on the government have put the PML-N in a state of dilemma regarding its future course of action. It has already put on hold one of its three options, that of resignations from assemblies, and sees willing to take part in Senate elections. This move was earlier planned to forestall Senate polls and to force the government to announce early elections. A Long March on Islamabad and mass agitation were other two options to be exercised, most probably, before the Senate elections to get rid of the present rulers.

Under the changed circumstances, the PML-N is less likely to exercise any of these options because the situation is not conducive for such an adventure.

An added factor to the existing political environment is an overture by the government which has hinted at the possibility of holding general elections sometime in September or October this year after passage of the federal budget which it plans to present in the National Assembly a month earlier. The new computerised electoral rolls would be ready only till June.

In view of these factors, the PML-N is left with limited options. Analysts say that it would either have to review its existing policy in the light of new realities or continue with the already devised policy. The latter option does not seem to be feasible at the moment. A PML-N source, however, said that no new policy was going to be formulated in tomorrow’s meeting, but slight adjustments were likely in view of the present situation. “The leadership would only decide which of the three options should be exercised and at what time,” he added.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition, Ch Nisar Ali Khan called on Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday and finalised the agenda of the upcoming meeting.

They all are planning to get together again.

They will be discussing US relations in parliament.
conclusion to that is carry on boot polishing US!

The new line of party will be either get PML Q on board with them, or too sit on the lap of Zardari and wait for elections.

As for noon league doing long march to push the government to resign, does not seem a possibility. However if PTI decides to go to the streets then I am very sure Nawaz Sharif will gate crash the movement.
