New taxes to cover expenses of military operations: FBR
LAHORE: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Sohail Ahmed has said that the government will have to impose new taxes on the people to meet expenditures incurred on the military operation against militants, a private TV channel reported on Tuesday. The FBR chief said the expenditures of the military operations were not included in the budget for the current fiscal year, adding that the issue was taken up during talks with the International Monetary Fund in November. Ahmed said the government was forced to consider imposing new taxes, as there was a huge gap between revenue and expenditures. He said the government would also impose an additional one percent federal excise duty from January 1, 2010. daily times monitor.
