WASHINGTON: The Obama administration has told Pakistan it would not get an atomic power plant or a civilian nuclear deal from the United States.

A senior US official, while briefing Indian journalists in Washington, said the United States was working closely with Pakistan to help meet its growing energy needs.

“But nuclear power is not currently part of our discussions,” and the United States had conveyed its decision to Pakistan, the official said.

He said the administration had also told Pakistan that “there is no way they can get a civilian nuclear deal similar to the one the Obama administration has signed with India”.

The Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, the official said, was “specific to India only and there is no thinking going on in the administration to create a template for it.”

  2. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

It is simple. They don't want Muslims to make progress. They want Muslims to remain ignorant, without knowledge, without the benefits with which people can live, better lives.

It is a classic case of competition or jealousy. For Muslims have out-done them for centuries in the past.

this stand was clear from day one, i mean pak never expected something like that anyway.

our rulers are happy with 'coalition support funds' that they receive for waging war on fellow citizens, what else is better for them than $$$ received for destroying their own country?

  4. Guys

My take is quite different from the conventional view. I believe that Nuclear deal which India has done with US is entirely in US favour. By doing this deal US was able to open up the indian nuclear program to herself and more importantly it has made india reliant on her for the nuclear fuel. This is similar to making china reliant on the export to US for chinese economy. The result of this deal that how bad it was for india will be coming in next 5-10 years.

I strongly beleive we are better off without such deal with US. We have made our nuclear program without the help of US and european countries so why we are dying for it now. I suspect some baboos in Foreign office are using this nuclear deal issue to cap pakistan's nuclear programme.

  5. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

I'm not interested in acquiring stuff from US.

What I'm interested in, is that the west does not become a road block for us to experiment more with nuclear technology, etc etc, learn more and more about it. Create applications, products based on it.

Recently, I posted an article, where shows Bill Gates is investing in nuclear power. Bill Gates is trying to achieve an unlimited source of power, using nuclear power plants.

@FJ I kind of agree with your opinion that India is bound by US on neuclear issue but still there are several factors that should be considered. We have serious shortage of power and (now India is screwing our water supply as well). Our army is engaged in United States's sham war against terror for peanuts i.e. not being properly compensated. In this relationship only there is sticks and no carrots.

So Pakistan should keep its options open. It should explore options of power deals with Russains(if Indians can meet Saudis then we should meet every one as well) and further enhance relationship with Chinese on neuclear issue(some more chashma neuclear power plants?)

    FJ,

We could understand from example of Maylasia, they depended upon the foreign investment but when it was pulled out, Maylasia had the crisis. They were bullish to bounce back and they did. But China is not as dependent on its export to USA, having great dollar reserves, China can absorb these shocks (of no export to USA).

It would anyhow be better in our intersts if we did not take any help from outside on nuclear plants research etc. Lets make it indigenous as is our claim!

  8. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

We need to educate ourselves, learn more, create the next generation products to sell locally, as well as export them.

We need to achieve high level of exports for our better future.
