    Wonder if Congress will approve.

Taliban, fazlullah, hakeemullah will probably be looking at Pakistan and saying:

    "teraa kiaa hogaaa kaalia"

  3. I may say it remains to be seen. There are dug in for a long time to come. If not Afghanistan than Pakistan. Or shall I say they have done with their fortress in Pakistan.

I am thinking Pakistan should strictly seal its borders and destroy terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan so once US is gone, Taliban dont impose another threat.

  6. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

I am confident justice, peace will return to Afghanistan under Taliban. The war lords will be contained.

Afghanistan will have a fresh chance of moving towards prosperity.

During Taliban's rule in Afghanistan, there was ZERO soldiers on Pak - Afghan border, yet there was 101% peace on the border

i have said this before, but anyway....

US is here to stay! it is building the second largest embassy in Islamabad, extending the consulates in Mai Kolachi and Peshawar, has its contractors spread-out across Islamabad and Peshawar and most important of all, has its interests vested in staying here.

if someone tells me that tomorrow Zong, ZTE and Huwaei are going to stop operations in Pakistan....i would say...mmmm okay, maybe you are right.

but this.....a big no. they aren't going anywhere.

@bsobaid - "I am thinking Pakistan should strictly seal its borders and destroy terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan so once US is gone, Taliban dont impose another threat."

so, prior to 9/11 when there was the Taliban government in Afghanistan, the TALIBAN WERE A THREAT?

im sorry but most of us on the forum were quite old enough aat that time to remember the situation. your twisted narrative does not prove anything.

It is not and should not be our problem which government comes in Afghanistan. We have done enough of ‘thekedari’ to influence our wishes in the internal affairs of Afghanistan and reaping the bitter harvest of those interferences.

Instead we should concentrate to see as to how we can ensure peace, progress and prosperity in our country Pakistan.

just in case you might have lost your memory due to the shock that you received when you heard about pak army declaring operation against the taliban for the first time, let me remind you that the time you are talking about is when your army was supporting these talibans unconditionally , so much so, that they even had the courage to protect people like usama bin laden against the will of whole wide world!

and btw it was the same time when pak army was known to support, nurture and pamper talibans and not declare operations against them!

The fact that you still think that every thing will go back to normal and hunky dory between pak army & talibs despite all that happened between them after 9/11 just because U.S forces would leave this area, tells us all about your intellect & the lala-land that people like you are living in!

30000 more coming in is not a sign for leaving. The rhetoric that you hear on the sideline about leaving in three years is to calm the nerves of the domestic public. It is like a pretty girl telling you. I will call you in three years and the chance of that happening.

Let us say that Pakistan has no hand whatsoever behind the Russian occupation of Afghanistan.
Keeping that in mind it became a matter of defense and of concern too for Pakistan.
Taliban or their infighting before Taliban was going on without interference or 'thekeydari' from Pakistan. That became a reality during Zia era right through BB era later.
Agreed we should keep our eyes on our own progress and prosperity.
And close our eyes by not keeping an eye across borders of Pakistan!
Defense is equally important. Both external and internal.

  16. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

People of Pakistan are not willing to change for the better.

They are more stubborn than the Zionists in this matter.

That is ALL that needs to be said.

But, I STILL have hope as long as there's some kind of justice available.

@ucsher: You are forgetting Pakistan Army has ZERO experience of fighting in mountainous terrain, plus Pakistan Army hasn't fought a war in decades.

People of Afghanistan have decades of experience of tough life.

Don't boast on the basis of a hope.

    Mirza Sahib

Your views are logical too, except that I did not say that we should close our eyes to see across boarder but not to interfere in the affairs of other countries to bring a government of our liking there.
Presently, internal threat is most serious. Our armed forces are quite capable of meeting any threat from across any boarder.

    Regards.

They may not be the only thread but they are the biggest threat we are facing today.

excerpt from Douglas Birch's article "Obama borrows Soviet’s Afghan endgame"

    http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\124\story_4-12-2009_pg20_10

"President Obama’s plan for ending the US-led war against the Taliban bears a striking resemblance to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev’s scheme for ending his country’s Afghan war 20 years ago.

After Gorbachev took power in 1985, he authorised a surge in military forces. But he gave his generals a year to win the war. After that, he warned, they would have to withdraw.

Obama on Tuesday proposed a similar strategy, calling for 30,000 additional American troops, bringing the US total to nearly 100,000. But he also said troop withdrawals would begin in the summer of 2011.

Gorbachev’s exit from what he called “our bleeding wound” took four years instead of one and cost the lives of an additional 7,000 Russian soldiers."

  34. vietnamees were more brave and good fighters in war against USA.

Afghanis could not fight with Americans.

USA has itself decided to leave afghanistan at its time not compelled by afghan taliban.

  38. vietnamis killed 50,000 americans,
afghan could not pass the figures 4000 in 8 yaers,

its local pressure in usa, plus main purpose usa has acheived so they decided to leave,

actually, there is nothing left except talibans in afghanistan for which usa can stay for a long time.

  39. The only way to protect Paistan interst in Afghanistan is midterm election because current govt high officials are protecting US and Indian interest in Afghanistan and they are recieving $lrs.

If there are mid term elections and NS came into power, do you seriously think he is going to change the policies. You are living in utopia. He is not saying anything about Drone strikes. He is complacent and it amounts to acknowledgment in my opinion. Show me an instant where PML(N) has truly spoken out in favor of poor public on any issue as opposition.
Don't mention NRO as it is inextricably linked to Musharraf and his legacy.

One person or one party cannot bring change. The insititute which can play very effective role in current situation is Parliment but unfortunately under SOB Zardari govt, Pakistan parliment is not functioning and that is the reason why western countries decleard pakistan as a failed state.I support midterm election because i want to see free effective parliment.
