here is what John Wall wants from Pakistan:
plz, all scholars are welcome to understand, decipher, and anlyze this agenda.

John Wall said there was need:

    #1- to improve governance

How? What is the meaning of this?

#2- make land record transparent and accessible

I think they want all land sale/purchase related transactions to be taxable, knowing that this is an agriculture based country and huge money can be extorted from poor farmers.

    #3- reform civil service

may be they mean to send them abroad for more trips, trainings and lessons

#4- develop Indus Basin with the objective to utilise water effectively

would you plz finance it or tell us which funds should be utilized here??

#5- develop mineral and natural resources for ending energy shortages

how? where is the money to do this?

#6- put in place regulatory framework for developing mineral and natural resource areas of Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab

sell all natural resources to multinational mining companies so they could dig out, refine, and sell back at international rates

#7- negotiate duty free exports to Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries

you should keep yourself as raw material producing nation and it available for other regions who have industry and can use your raw materials and then sell back finished products-

#8- forget the money pledged by the FODP (friends of democratic pakistan)

    ha ha ha

#9- get government money out of agriculture sector

tax people more, explore how to get more taxes from farmers

#10- implement national assessment system on education to run schools effectively.

take our free advice on education

WB: you people are just clerks trained & hired to do what we tell you to do-

    thx

  2. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

We don't accept slavery from them.

    --------------------------------------------------------

If and when people working in mass media industry of Pakistan highlight issues of common people, a lot can be achieved through talk shows on internal issues of people of Pakistan.

Through mass media programs, a lot of awareness can be spread about public issues in a fraction of a time it will take for a political party to individually go to local areas and spread awareness about those matters.

    This is exactly why I have said it over and over again;

Mass media people, especially those who host talk shows have got! to raise issues of local people through their programs. For example, they have got to do detailed shows on issues of local people.

    That means, mass media in Pakistan needs to;

    (1) take up one issue

    (2) call up representatives of political parties, for them to take part in a discussion

    (3) give them appropriate amount of time to put forward their plans on dealing with that issue

    (4) let people of Pakistan decide on who offers the best solution to their problems or which political party holds the best solutions

This will help in bringing people of Pakistan closer to those who they want to choose as their leaders.

Which means, people of Pakistan will then have a better understanding of what is going on. And they will be able to decide which of the options are better for them.

These debates/discussions regularly take place in western world, in USA, in UK, etc etc, when general elections or any kind of elections take place.

Why doesn't Pakistani mass media work on this premise ?

If someone stops them from this activity or coerces them to not hold this activity, they should come out in public domain and tell who is stopping them, who is coercing them.

That will go a long way in helping people of Pakistan to decide who to vote for in next general elections.

as hillary clinton said to pakistani anchor ladies "you don't have to accept our money"

a simple no to their money is the solution, let pakistan default on their loans and we will have all looters/thugs/nokarshahi/etc evaporated

  4. Just a wee comment on that execrable document above. It concerns point 10, education. Last year, suddenly out of the blue, the WB decided to enter the field of education in Pakistan, in the Sind, at least. They would fund schools for us under special terms, which we need not go into here, but the condition was, of course, everything on a private basis. Straightaway, in rural Sind, government schools were shut down.

The buildings were there intact, the teachers were getting their monthly salaries. The only victims: the students. The teachers were being paid to stay at home and NOT teach. And the buildings were being used to shelter cattle. And yet another generation of bright students were condemned to go self-educated or remain semi-literate.

Spot on for all the other comments above. Never let IMF/WB come anywhere close to the new Pakistan. But, of course, when the new Pakistan comes into being, these two institutions may no longer even exist.

  5. HK, we in Pakistan have one of the freest of media systems in the world. They are doing a good to splendid job. It's we the people who are not doing our bit properly. We ourselves should go out and talk to the people, each one of us. Not just be content to huddle among our own and exchange bright comments. Each one of us adopts one neighbourhood to bring to that point of awareness which is required. But do we even know how to talk to simple people without patronising them?

  6. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

    When this budget is presented, I want mass media talk show hosts to;

    (1) bring these politicians (who present this budget) on talk shows

    (2) discuss through each and every point from this budget with them

Ask them hard questions, on REAL issues, issues of local people

    (3) also have those present in these shows who think the budget was not made in favour of people of Pakistan or local representatives who have apprehensions that have not been addressed or ignored

    (4) Give comparative analysis on good and bad policies on local people at! their! level!

    This will go a long way in bringing awareness in people of Pakistan on;

    (a) Who is making budget of Pakistan ?

    (b) What policies are being made ?

    (c) Are these policies in economic interests of Pakistan, in economic interests of people of Pakistan ?

    (d) Who is going to pay for these policies if they blow up in our faces ? Who is going to be held responsible for them ?

  7. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@Mirza Ghalib: Yes, we do. ALL of us do.

Its just that we don't have the 'neeyat' (in urdu) to excersize this knowledge, this skill.

All of those are sound recommendations. My personal would be to start with land reform (with corporate farming and so on) and start taxing the agriculture sector once the feudals are out. This will increase the tax base and provide much needed relief to the Services and Manufacturing sector, whilst increasing the GDP-to-revenue, which will increase the overall growth.

  10. thats ironic ...really ironic .
when World Bank after making us financial slave ,gives us the tips to improve the economy .

economy can not improve until we dare to do these things :

    1. get rid of feudal lords :
who are not letting our economy to grow as they wanna see the whole public as their Kammi Kameen.
they are not going to do any reforms which will hurt their own personal interest as a feudal.

    2. get rid of corruption culture :
hang just 2 or 3 big shots of Corruption scene .
and can see a dramatic decrease in corruption top to bottom.

    3. get rid of self humiliation:
start respecting your own self as a ;'Pakistani"

i am sick and tired of hearing out negative comments and jokes about our own self ....
have some self respect for our own identity .
don't say ,hum tou thokaien gaye kionaky hum Pakistani hain.
hum tou chori karaien gaye kionkay hum Pakistani hain.

for God 'sake ...stop being humiliating to your own identity .
the whole world is already doing the same .
please feel proud to be a nation of 1.6 million people .
having a land which is full of natural resources .
having an ideal geography and a nuclear status .
having great people within our nation .

we have to respect our own identity as a Pakistani.
not only during Pak-India Cricket matches .
but all along the year ,we should be proud and excited about being Pakistani .
