Pak facing unbearable water shortage!......

Previous as well as the current government as of yet has not taken any initiative in this regard. People are seeking help through courts! thanks to our castrated Ministry of Foreign Affairs! I would invite brothers to comment and expose ‘the hidden support to India of some eternal enemies of Pakistan’ as mentioned in the news below:
LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif Thursday sought reply from ministry of water & irrigation and ministry of foreign affairs on a petition seeking government’s action against stoppage of water by India to make Pakistan a barren country. Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) filed the petition through its president Sardar Zafar Hussain Khan.
Board’s counsel Mirza Abdul Khalique advocate submitted that the country was facing unbearable and unignorable shortage of water in its rivers which was directly damaging crops, farmers and economy of the country.
He said the reason behind this shortage was Indian mega plan to suffocate Pakistan with hidden support of some eternal enemies of Pakistan but the respondent authorities were just paying lip service against the cruelty of the neighbouring country.
Counsel pointed out that no practical step on bilateral level or global level had yet been taken by the Pakistani government in this regard.
Kisan Board Pakistan prayed to the court to direct the respondent authorities to take courageous and bold steps to prevent and secure water of three rivers (Indus, Chenab and Jhelum) already given to Pakistan through Indus Basin Water Treaty in 1960 before becoming a totally barren nation with a totally barren land and dry rivers. After hearing the initial arguments of the counsel the CJ sought report and para-wise comments from the respondent ministries till March 4. The CJ also directed a deputy attorney general of Pakistan to ensure submission of replies by next date of hearing.

Shall we just sit and see India take over all the water sources?????

This dire shortage is going to cause a BIG trouble! Anyhow there are water resources in our part as well! I hope that we harness those to OUR benefits!!

  3. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

The most time it would take Ministry of Water and Power is 1 month to check out the entire water situation in the entire country. They could then bring forward reports, plans for the future.

This present Govt. has spent 24 months in office. It has done nothing for the people of this nation.

    @ Shrik

When you say they are water resources on our side, can you please elaborate exactly where those water resources are.

    Sorry aftab,

I read your query late. Very busy due to my profession!

Pakistan has water resources, YES but FROZEN
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_resources

Fresh water resources are in ground water, glaciers, rivers.
    We have plenty of glaciers.

Just look at this list. Seems to be very long. Pakistan has more glaciers than any other country in the world.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_glaciers_of_Pakistan

Had this water shortage been a problem of west, or some developed country/nation, they would have found the method to utilise the glaciers without disturbing the environment balance (and of course flooding the whole Pakistan in an uncontrolled way).

I hope that our rulers think of this resource, put it to use in a sensible manner. It is a God given blessing, our scientists should find the ways to use it.

  9. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@shriq: I agree with you. this Awam has to push whoever is ruling over it, to do that. We shouldn't wait. We should organize and put pressure on Govt. through peaceful protests, so that Govt. does that which the people want.

Furthermore, if people of this nation, organize and protest, they can also push who rule over us to create jobs, opportunities for people living in hilly areas, so they don't cut trees to cater to their expenditures.

That will help a lot in rain.

Otherwise, war is inevitable in the coming future.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

I have already mentioned that people of hilly areas are cutting off trees from hills. That is not only causing warming in those areas, it is also resulting in decrease in amounts of rain, since there are no trees left on hills.
