    Zulqarnain goes missing in Dubai

DUBAI: Pakistani cricket team wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider went missing from hotel room in Dubai this morning, Geo News reported Monday.

The wicketkeeper Haider is missing from his hotel room since 6am this morning.

Sources said he was last seen at 630am while leaving his room. A Source said Shahid Aslam saw the wicketkeeper leaving his room at around 6am; he intercepted Haider, who told he is leaving to receive his relatives and would be back after some time. However, he was not seen around again.

However, in a new twist to the entire episode is a new message received on the mobile phone of wicketkeeper’ friend and Geo News corresponded Sohail Imran at around 1515am. The sms tells that Zulqarnain was leaving for England and urged security for his family in view of life-threatening messages.

The PCB’s Media Manager Nadeem Sarwar told Geo News that Zulqarnain had already taken his passport from the management on certain pretext last night.

The wicketkeeper said in his Facebook post he was leaving cricket as someone gave him bad message on losing in last match.

The wicketkeeper words are: ‘leaving pakistan cricket because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game.’

Also, a message from Zulqarnain’s mobile received on cellphone of Sohail Imran, said he is leaving the cricket as someone is giving him murder threats.

The SMS received on Sohail Imran’s mobile phone said, ‘Match haar jao’ (Lose match.)

In his second MSM to Sohail Imran, the cricketer said he is leaving for England.

Talking to Geo News, Zulqarnain’s brother Aqil Haider said his brother talked to the family last night, urging all to pray to Allah for his brother.

Team management announced three changes in the squad for today’s match. Zulqarnain Haider’s name was previously on the squad for today’s match. Muhammed Yousuf, who flew shortly to Dubai, has been included in the squad for strengthening batting line. Omar Akmal will play as wicketkeeper in today’s match. Imran Farhat and Asad Shafeeque have been excluded. (Last updated at 1520)

  2. Maybe Imran Nazir got a similar message so gave up 48 runs in less than an over (including 12 wides and 9 no-balls) to lose that one...

  3. A lot of bad things are happening since indian politician has become president of ICC.ICC has threatened to ban Pakistan cricket but there are no words for IPL,ICL corruption, indian match fixers very recently news about indian player's connections with bookies.

Pakistan had worst allegations of match fixing in wasim akram's time but was never given any threat by icc.

I am sure indian bookies are working with some of Pakistani players. They get blackmailed easily specially imran nazir or youngsters like him because of the time spent in india.

2ndly we don't have good people running PCB. people like ramiz, amir suhail, rashid latif or majid khan can do alot better for Pakistan.

Ejaz butt is destroying PCB and yet there is no action taken by authorities because he is the brother in law of Ahmed Mukhtar.

He seems to be at odds with board. PCB is in bed with bookies and is giving chances to those who are not trying to change the status quo. He was sent back earlier after scoring 88 runs on debut under the pretext of injury. Now for this all important game he seems to be pushed again against the wall. We probably don't realize how much pressure players cope with to stay clean. I am glad he made a statement by disappearing instead of making deal with bookies like rest.

Welcome, welcome Zulqurnain welcome to Britain. Now, it is a matter of just few years before you owns a supermarket, until then you will be a guest of taxpayers. I am sure that you must not have overlooked a likely lucrative contract for county cricket.

Anyway, before we all get too excited, we must wait to see if your hurriedly cooked plan was too flimsy or the British immigration rules are too flimsy to allow you in Britain.

Finally, I cannot help saying that the bombshell you have dropped on Pakistan in love of Britain, is the worst than any other scandle by asylum seekers.

This is very strange, possibly he knows after this series he will be kicked out of team so better to create a scene and get the political asylum in UK.

i think his getting sympathy, , and he looks to be not logical person as he fleed without informing his managers and prooved as cowharded man, it was better to play and earn a good name for country, how to trust his designed plan. it might be possible that he found himself no more flexible with managers then he earned the sympathy and go for UK to get asylem himself as well as family because he can earn good money there.

well look like the plan of akmal family has been a success. zulqarnain was the threat for the elder akmal so only a couple of calls and oral threats worked and he left the team. its not like adnan is the only keeper available right now in domestic circuit. Bismillah Khan, Mohammed Salman, Ali Asad, and Sarfraz Ahmed are available but since adnan belongs to akmal mafia so he is selected ahead of sarfraz who is a part of Pakistan A team right now.

  13. Akmal brothers smell fishy. Criclet and betting mafia are too powerful and even they can change important post of keeper. Kick out Ijaz Butt first to start cleaning our sinking cricket team.

Come on People, dont you know how illegal businesses work.

As one cannot go to court if some contract or promise is broken, therefore, drug lords, smugglers and bookies MUST ONLY RELY ON THE WORD OF THE MOUTH.

You will die if you betray them and vice versa.

This wicketkeeper double-crossed these bookies by winning the match whereas he must have promised to lose it. As a result, he is being threatened.

There is NO "do-numbry" in "do-number" activities; otherwise the consequences will be grave.

This theory has not been put forward by me but by the experienced "SARFARAZ NAWAZ".

Double-crossing in dirty work usually results in deaths or kidnaps.

Some years back, Wasim Akram's father was kidnapped in mysterious circumstances.

No one needs to say that SARFARAZ NAWAZ is Pakistan Cricket's "GHAR KA BHAIDEE"

Zulqarnain Haider 'withdraws UK political asylum bid'

Ex-Pakistan cricketer Zulqarnain Haider is set to withdraw his political asylum claim in Britain, according to reports.

The wicketkeeper fled to London in November after receiving death threats when he refused to fix two matches.

But after receiving security assurances from Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik, Haider said he will return to his home country on 24 April.

"There is no need for me to continue with my asylum application, which I will withdraw," he told GEO TV.

Haider said he had been approached in Dubai by a person who asked him to fix the fourth and fifth one-day internationals against South Africa, who won the five-match series 3-2 in November of last year.

But days later the 24-year-old left Dubai bound for London, claiming the individual involved had threatened to kill him and his family if he did not comply with the match-fixing demands.

After arriving in England, the wicketkeeper immediately applied for political asylum before announcing his retirement from international cricket, while the unimpressed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposed a lifetime ban.

Haider had threatened in February to "name and shame" players he believes are engaged in corruption in cricket after co-operating with the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

But should Haider rescind his asylum application, the PCB may overturn their ban and allow Haider, who has played one Test and four one-dayers, to come out of retirement and resume his international career as Pakistan's wicketkeeping crisis continues.

assurance of a person who wets pants over a firecracker ? That 's rather stupid look at his history whoever he assured of security got bumped.

Zulqarnain Haider should not be included in the team at any cost even if his story is authentic , that guy ditched the team when he was needed. His inclusion would create more controversies and problems for rest of the team members..

    @ doctor

I think he should be given a chance because if his family was threatened then it was the right decision.

Well if he is to be included in the team then his story should be made public along with the names of culprits whom he feared. If those guys who had threatened/blackmailed him could do it once then why can't they do it again,so he could very much once again crumble .

Pakistan is full of talented players, its not like there is scarcity of wicket keepers and we have to rely only on Akmal brothers or Zulqarnain Haider..

Zulqarnain Haider makes Pakistan retirement U-turn

"I have decided to take back my retirement decision in the national interest," said 25-year-old Haider.

He added that it was also "because I want to revive my career".

Haider came to England after claiming that he was asked to help fix two games against South Africa, who Pakistan were playing in a one-day series at the time.

He threatened to "name and shame" players he believed were involved in cricket corruption.

Haider only returned to his homeland after assurances from Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik that he and his family would be safe.

"The situation is also different now from when I went to London," added Haider, who has played one Test, four ODI's and three Twenty20s for Pakistan.

"I want to play cricket again and now it is up to the cricket board to decide when to clear me."

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is waiting for Haider to answer questions sent to him about his actions before he is allowed to appear before a disciplinary board.

"The committee wanted certain clarification from Haider and he will be given an opportunity to meet PCB officials only after he sends his reply," a PCB spokesman said last month.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/13372076.stm

It's sad that he did not "name and shame" the playes before the world cup started and still has not done it too date.
