Many factors are at play converging on one issue of Religious Intolerance, behind this extrajudicial murder of Salman Tasir.

Salman Tasir was a liberal having ‘I don’t care’ type attitude and approach towards religious as well as non-religious issues. He himself did not committed blasphemy according to a law laid out in the constitution of Pakistan however he was open on this issues and informed Asia (who confessed to blasphemy according to police report and therefore convicted on that strength)that he will plea her case with the President.

This obviously was taken as a pardon sure to happen because the president on his part had pardoned a couple of his team in the past (not taken as a welcome move by the masses) therefore an uproar from the mullah brigade. Malik was influenced / indirectly induced to ‘a noble cause’ (his thought) of killing a blasphemer (ST was not) by acting on his own.

Malik is thought of as a deep-rooted plant what seems to be a farfetched idea. PPP could not have sacrificed their most outspoken (against PMLN) and powerful governor just to divert public attention from the issue of MQM leaving coalition partnership as I thought. This issue is different.

Asia bibi is a Christian by faith. Christians if not educated are treated at the same level as untouchables of Indian Hindu caste system which is very sad. One may argue that Sharia says so. Sharia says do not eat from a Christian because they eat swine. However, Pakistani Christians (generally) do not eat swine, Asia comes from an area where they do not, and they cannot even if they liked to because it is not available. How sad that Asia is accepted as a fruit picker but her colleagues refused to take water from her because she is a Christian. This was the main cause of dispute that we, I am afraid have overlooked.

Let us not treat our religious minorities as untouchables. If we learn to treat them as respectable members of our society then they will not react as Asia did, a normal human response when one is insulted. The mullah who summoned Police in this case should have behaved as an Alim-e-deen (most are not) and not a fl@mer creating a mountain out of a mole.

Bottom line is to respect and behave with religious minorities as humans if we call ourselves human and not to treat them as social outcasts. Mullahs be barred so they are unable to gather public aiming for religious riots and stubborn ones be barred for life as clergy specially those who are active creating sectarian divisions using Islam for this purpose.

I can say ‘Religious Intolerance’ was behind the murder of Salman Tasir.

A very valid point. This attitude considering religious minorities as untouchables is against the Islamic teaching.
ST behavior was not like a mature politician. His behavior was like a kid who is revolting against his own family. Instead of helping he made the situation even worse. He has neglected the reality that he is living in Islamic country. He was playing with feelings of majority of the country. Freedom of speech does means that you are allowed to insult the scholars and people with other opinion.
Here is also a lesson for us not to generalize.
