ISLAMABAD: The government has decided that it will hold early elections.
According to PPP leader Khursheed Shah, Senate elections will be held in Febuary and general elections may be held anytime after the budget.
Early elections were also discussed during the PPP Core Committee meeting in which it was decided that Senate elections would be held towards the end of Febuary not March.

its like a CEO who is getting fired announces his management team for half the company and tells the incoming CEO, he can't change them

it may not make any sense but it does make a deal!
Nawaz Sharif is very good at making deals!
Constitution work this way. Does not matter, if anybody is thinking different way.
It is 100% constitutional to elect senate members from out going assemblies.

Nothing wrong with conducting Senate elections. This is the right of parliament.

Rightly pointed by other members that senate and assemblies work a bit differently.
a) Assemblies are elected for 5 years while senate members are elected 6 years.
b) Half of senate members are retired after every three years and sitting assemblies reelect them .
So ,every assemblies provided they complete their term is supposed to elect senate members twice .
This assembly elected once in 2009 and 2012 is second time.
Good thing it will eliminate 2002 kaa gand like MMA :)

Early elections will be very advantageous to PPP. PPP will then justify all its failures for not giving full chance to demonstrate its performance.

NOt if PPP itself calls for elections.
But if PPP government is removed as it has been done previoulsy in 90's , it will try to get sympathy.
Btw, after feb, the government will enter into its final year anyways.

The opposition political power are forcing PPP for early elections for their early grabbing of power. Such acts of pressurising will give an advantage to PPP.

I won't claim to be a hafiz of constituion but have read it very throughly.
The situation u mentioned was in 1988 BB first government , when it had only 2/3 members in the senate and in its 20 months it could pass only 2 financial bills (budgets) as finanicial bills didn't go to senate at that time (Now financial bills also go to senate but it can just do its recommendations).
