I think its kind of a baseless article... Altaf Hussain never asked for an independent state of Karachi as claimed in that article. Its absurd that he couldnt find anything else to right. AH is a proud Sindhi and wants Sindh to be together.

But anyways, personally thinking in selfish perspective, having an independent port state of Karachi plus Hyderabad would rock! :) ... all ethnicities living in this state in peace, without the cancer of feudal raj or feudalistic corrupt mindset anywhere in the ranks.

    No Trust on Altaf Hussain.

Altaf Hussain for his bundle contradictory statements (through out his life) regarding Pakistani people and politics, he has lost trust among other Pakistanis and he is awared of it.

He is afraid of civil war in response, if he put demand new state for Muhajirs from Pakistani people especially Sindhi people.

Pakistan is strategically connected by Indus river, and ancient cultural bonds among dwellers of Indus basin are unbreakable.

Altaf Hussain could do anything. He's a British citizen holding a British passport. Why would he love Pakistan?

    From the above mentioned article:

"The MQM leader Altaf Hussain has asked the international community to intervene to end the armed conflict. He has also called for making Karachi an independent state."

There is NO doubt that MQM is ALSO committing crimes against humanity - just like ANP and PPP, but are there any evidence on the above mentioned statement?

^^I believe its' easier for them to operate from the sea than to do it by land forces in spite of having troops in Afghanistan (fully occupied by the Taliban). From the sea they can use their bases in the Gulf and also bring some of the aircraft carrier and other warships, so the opportunity cannot be ruled out, but I don't think it's likely around the corner.

This guy is high on something; there are a lot more Muhajir casualties but he is crying only for pathans. Good one. It shows he is quite impartial. Besides where is that map and excerpt of US Army magazine he mentioned?

I am also afraid of army operation in Karachi. Police has become highly politicised. I think Rangers can help.

Rangers is also highly politicized institution; they only recruit from certain ethnicity as we all have witnessed what happened with Sarfraz Shah. Rangers, FC and Police, they are all known for extrajudicial killing in Karachi back in 90s. I have no hope from any these tainted institutions. Rangers were supposed to be gone after the operation, but I wonder what there business was in the city afterward. It turned out they flourished their own businesses and also involved in racketeering. It is just another goons force. Good luck to you for hoping such. I also have strong doubt they may be behind the killing spree as a reason to remain stationed there. If you don't know, an honest Army general never like to serve in the major citites as Army itself is quite tainted with nepotism, bribery etc. Thinking that these corrupt Rangers would be able to do anything is plain wishful thinking.

Qaim, All this is true but Rangers officials are not posted on the behest of Altaf Bobby, Amn committee or wehshi syed.

They are still an effective tool for stopping the killing spree and nabbing terrorists if given free hand.

Permenent solution, however, is a political one which as I explained in another post requires election of an aethnic part in Karachi as KArachi is a multi cultural city and the likes of Altaf bobby and Amn Committee are ill-suited for that environment.

SO what happened when the AMn committee, Afaq Group and ANP animals were killing people in Malir for 6 long hours? These corrupts were stationed there and haven't take any action. So much for their sincerity and fairness.!

Once they get a go ahead, they plan things effectively.
Police on the other hand tries to save its masters who made them SHOs in the first place.

The only thing required in Karachi, is a police force allowed to do it's job without any political influence by any of the parties in Karachi. In other words de-politicize the police.

The problem we have however there is a power struggle going on in Karachi. Between MQM, PPP and ANP, all 3 of these parties are to blame for problems in Karachi. They have gangs that represent there groups, and now I feel they have gone out of the control of these parties.

So therefore NATO intervention, is not required, there is a simple formula to help the people of karachi, get rid of these parties, it is as simple as that.

Kudos to you sir for providing expert opinion. Have you ever set foot in Karachi or self-appointing yourself as a subject matter expert? Just a question.
SO where would you import this non-politcized police force? Angels from Mars! Just like any developed city in the world, the police force should come under Metropilitan. Yes you can still have police force under province control but within the city limits, there authority must be clipped. Since that would be metropolitan police's responsibility.

exactly! I have said this so many times.

why not have a separate MetroPolice Adaara like other Urban Centers of the world? Police set up is disgusting the way it is right now.

otherwise, just let NATO free the people end of story.
