BUREWALA - The division of Punjab province on linguistic basis is not acceptable and Seraiki province is the propaganda of anti-state elements.

Our movement will oppose creation of the Seraiki province at every forum, the remarks were made by the participants of a consulting meeting arranged by Punjabi Qaumi Tehreek Burewala (PQTB) at Press Club Burewala here on Sunday.

Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajraan President Muhammad Jameel Bhatti, General Secretary Muhammad Saghir Ramay, PML-N Youth Wing President Manzoor Barkat Mariwala, Press Club General Secretary Nadeem Mushtaq, Advocate Fiaz Azeem, Abdul Hafeez, Liaquat Ali Parwana, Muhammad Hanif Sufi, Mahmood Ghazni, Akarm Bajwa, Muhammad Yaseen Bhatti, Malik Muhammad Aslam, Malik Abdul Hafeez, Muhammad Afzal Paras and other addressed the participants of the consulting meeting.

The speakers said that people of Punjab had never compromised on the national issues and division of the province over linguistic grounds meant to destabilize the country. They said that Seraiki people were our brethren but some feudal and industrialists wanted to rule over the poor people by using language as a tool which was not acceptable. They said that new provinces had been created on administrative grounds all over the world but the current regime was using it to black mail their political opponents. They said that Pakistan could not be divided on the linguistic basis furthermore which will be against the ideology of the state. They said that people who are dividing Punjabis and Seraikis were not sincere with the ideology of Pakistan. They threatened that there would be a large scale protest against the issue, saying that division of the province on linguistic grounds would not be accepted at any cost.

They said that Punjabi Qaumi Tehreek Burewala (PTB) had constituted a 15 members committee which would oppose the inclusion of Vehari district in the purposed Seraiki province. They said that Vehari district, particularly people of Burewala would send their reservations to President Asif Zardari to apprise him that Punjabi people were not interested in the inclusion of their areas in the proposed province.

Some people include sahiwal, pakpattan districts in the proposed province of seraiki but i believe these districts are majority punjabi and they should not be included in seraiki province.

  4. Can someone enlighten me why the word "linguistics" is overloaded in Pakistani vernacular? Has it been borrowed from Western media?

My understanding of language vs., linguistic is as follows:

    - A language may refer to human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication.

    - The scientific study of language in any of its senses is called linguistics.

So long as the unity of Pakisatan remains intact, there is no harm in creating new provinces.....

however, what it basically means is to have more politicians occupying more power-seats, hence the horizon of loots & plunders will expand...

the irony of the matter is, all is being trumpeted in the name of betterment for Pakistan and its people, whereas, we all know the plight and suffering of people will continue unabated....well done guys!!!
