Pakistan started this before India. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman was behind this idea. Many foriegn universities were preparing to open their universities in pakistan but the first step of PPP Govt. was to remove Mr. Atta-ur-Rehman. I know even my University supervisor was a part of the team and he visited Lahore many times for this and even German University near Lahore started advertising for the faculty. But it stopped and never started again.
@Larki,
as long as the feasibility is concerned .......
but the problem is that ,no leader or Govt is ready to give its due importance to the education sector .
it consists of only 3 % of our budget.
and every Govt ,no matter PPP or PMLN or army head ....
happily increase defense budget and privileges to Govt servants but reluctant to put money behind HUMAN INVESTMENT .
which is a long time ,fixed deposit investment with huge profits .....
but unfortunately ,all our leaders are very short sighted .
they can only see short term gains .
not enough is being allocated towards education, thats clear enough, but what do we sacrifice in order to raise educational funds. Defense?... definitely not. Health? it barely exists.
Maybe something from the Crorepati MNA's pockets would help.
and the reason of not taking education serious ever in Pakistan is ;
that since Pakistan has came into being .
its fate is circulating and rotating in the hands of feudal lords .
and feudal lords psyche cant allow them to go for a revolution through education.
wether its Bhutto or Zardari.
no feudal lord wud want his RIYAA (public )to be well educated .
so feudal lordism stops education in Pakistan. unbelievable how can we let feudals dominate in year 2009 in this modern era.
perhaps, feudals of Pakistan are really really smart and have learned english ;)
@quaidkamazar,
feudals are not smart .
but they are filthy rich.........
i don't remember the name of a local party from Karachi.
it came up with the slogan of anti feudalism.
and all we can see is that party is sitting with feudal lords for almost 20 years now.
that's why feudal always wins and common man lose .
LOLz... sorry but i found your latest comment rather funny.
what do you expect this local party of Karachi to do, not sit in parliament because of feudal domination? or stay in opposition forever?
anyways, i know you have your own take on MQM which i will respect regardless... while you know i have my own take.
i really dont expect this anti-feudal party to not have any contact with any other leading parties, because Pakistan at the end of the day is one country with one parliament alhumdullilah.
@quaidkamazar,
if they were too small to challenge feudal system ...why were they boost about it and made the part of their manifesto?
2. if they cant do it than they should not atleast become the part of it ..........
but they are constantly the part of every feudal govt .
and reaping the benefits of feudalism ....
These universities want to open campuses in India because India is a big market and because of i ts population lots of Indians go to these university. There are even more CHinese who go to these universities but probably because of the lack of openness by CHinese government and thier infamiliarity with english language there has'nt been may universities going to China.
To give some context, many universities were/are in a process pf setting up their Dubai campuses. Its all about business!
Yes, our government should do better but law and order situation must be keeping these universities to come to Pakistan but I hope this gets resolved soon. Lately, there has been lots of encouragement given to bright students by Pakistani government. There has been outrageously generous grants to bright students and they get invited by leaders of the nation. They aslo get scholarships for rest of their education for life, which I think is pretty good. Yes, there is lots need to be done and its not really about feudalism or someone intentionally trying to impede education reforms. It is just about the vision and priorities.
