Turkey's muslim government follows and imitates Nawaz Sharif because he is the ONLY LEADER in the history of Pakistan who has tried to tame the mighty military.
His entire political career is full of such struggles. Sometimes he succeeded and sometimes not. But he did not enter into NRO with the dictator in 2007. His entire family was forced to exile by the military dictator in 2000. He was not even allowed to attend the funeral of his respectable father Mian Muhammad Sharif (a well known industrialist, who had earlier migrated from India and set up industry in newly-created Pakistan)... Shahbaz Sharif tried to enter Pakistan in 2004 but was deceived by the dictator when he was told that his flight was being taken to Rawalpindi (for appearance in Court) but was actually diverted (highjacked) to Dubai the same day. Another attempt was made by Nawaz Sharif but in vain. Ultimately, late Benazir Bhutto signed NRO (National Re-corruption Ordinance) on 5th October 2007 and all the cases were closed due to the Deal between BB and runaway dictator Musharraf. When BB came to Pakistan on 18th October 2007, it paved way for Nawaz Sharif’s entry into his motherland.
The entire world is witness to the fact that ever since Nawaz Sharif became Prime Minister of Pakistan he has been facing conspiracies by rogue generals. In the presence of article 58-2-b, President of Pakistan was the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces.
Late Ghulam Ishaq Khan, the patwari-turned-President, was a master of palace intrigues. He had dissolved PPP’s government on 6th August 1990 when late Benazir Bhutto had become a symbol of corruption (her husband was internationally known as Mr 10%), she handed over a top-secret list of Sikh separatists to the then Indian Prime Minister (Rajiv Gandhi) and the Sikh uprising was completely crushed by India. She had halted the nuclear capability of Pakistan by reducing it to below 5% level, so that Pakistan could never produce an atom bomb. She was, therefore, a security risk for the country and was dismissed on charges of bad governance and corruption.
After the elections of 1990, Nawaz Sharif became the Prime Minister and Army Chief tried to dictate him. First it was General Mirza Aslam Baig to whom PM Nawaz Sharif did not support extension. The next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was General Asif Nawaz Janjua, who considered himself to be the most loyal to the country (surprisingly, Shuja Nawaz, the real brother of this “most loyal” general, currently works for a US think tank!). The COAS started anti-dacoit operation in northern Sindh in 1991 but then extended the operation to Karachi in 1992. He died during service and was replaced by General Abdul Waheed Kakkar as COAS. Ghulam Ishaq picked Kakkar by superseding a large number of generals due to his ethnic linkage. The duo of GIK and General Kakkar was continuously hatching conspiracies leading to dissolution of Nawaz Sharif government on the night of 17th April 1993. Nawaz Sharif filed petition in the Supreme Court and the government was restored. But the duo continued its conspiracies. Nawaz Sharif refused to take dictation from General Kakkar and preferred to resign in May 1993!
Huge amount of money was pumped in the elections of 1993… Younis Habib of Mehrangate doled 5 crore ruppees to PPP for the 1993 elections on the order of then Army Chief General AbdulWaheed Kakar and President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, the master of palace intrigues. Similarly, Pakistan Islamic Front was created to break the right vote bank and the October 1993 elections were blatantly rigged.
As planned, Benazir Bhutto won the elections and became PM. She chose her party member Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari as President of Pakistan. Corruption became order of the day and there were many mega-corruption scandals of that era (few of them including ARY Gold case, French Submarine scandal and SGS & Cotecna cases are some international cases of massive kickbacks and money laundering). The position became so bad that BB’s handpicked President (whom she used to call Farooq Bhai) had to dismiss her government soon after the broad-daylight murder of her younger brother Murtaza Bhutto (President of Al-Zulfiqar terrorist gang) in September 1996 once again on the charges of corruption.
Nawaz Sharif swept the elections of February 1997. Then COAS General Jehangir Karamat also tried to poke his nose on politics. His son Faisal Jehangir Karamat was involved in some fraud at UAE-based bank in Lahore but the case was buried under the direct force of COAS. The National Assembly passed 13th Amendment by abolishing article 58-2-b. General Jehangir Karamat was made to retire when he gave a non-professional statement on National Security Council. The holier-than-thou General Karamat currently works for another think tank in the USA!
USA’s President Obama has also followed Nawaz Sharif’s example by retiring General Stanley McChrystal, when he gave a statement contrary to the Government’s policy in 2010. USA was in the middle of war but the rogue Chief was dismissed and replaced by General David Petreus.
Nawaz Sharif chose General Pervaiz Musharraf as COAS by superseding General Ali Kuli Khan, whose name was earlier involved in a failed coup attempt when he was DG-MI. General Pervaiz Musharraf with his handpicked Corps Commanders lodged war in Kargil in May 1999. The Chiefs of Navy and Air Force complaint that even they were not informed about the war. Nawaz Sharif had to seek international help to stop the war when Pakistan had faced huge casualties due to misadventure of General Pervaiz Musharraf. Nawaz Sharif wanted to retire Pervaiz Musharraf due to his misadventure but General Musharraf with the help of few other holy Generals (Ghulam Ahmed, Jamshed Gulzar Kiyani, Usmani, Ahsan) plotted a coup d’ etat on the night of 12th October 1999 against the elected government of Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif’s entire family was jailed and then sent into exile.
General Musharraf with the help of DG ISI General Ehtisham Zamir first created Q-League by inducting people like Mian Azhar, Chaudhries of Gujrat and then used state power to fill it with more turncoats from PML. In 2002, the DG ISI created unholy MMA (Mullah Military Alliance) to show to the west that there is only one government party (Q-League) & only one opposition (MMA) and if the west does not support Musharraf and his Q-League then extremist MMA will come to power!
General Musharraf, with the help of his cronies, played double game with everyone to prolong his dictatorship. During the lost decade of General Musharraf, Pakistan became a front-line state of US’s war in Afghanistan against a few hundred million dollars (actual losses are thousand times more and still being inflicted by this war!), no energy project was commissioned (only Ghazi Barotha project was inaugurated which was over 70% completed by Nawaz Sharif), no significant gas exploration was conducted (could not dare import gas from Iran) and various mega-scandals including sugar scandal, wheat scandal and stock exchange scandal. His dirty intrigues led him to confront the judiciary and as a dying snake he imposed emergency on 3rd November 2007 (he is still absconder in imposition of emergency case and even his cronies have betrayed him!)
General Musharraf had thought that he will remain as President of Pakistan and will share the government with PPP (as part of NRO deal) but nature has its own course. After the elections, PPP won the elections but the second largest party was PML-N (now the largest party) . PPP wanted to continue with Mush but PML-N led his exit in August 2008 and the runaway general cannot dare come back to Pakistan in the presence of independent judiciary and PML-N.
InshaAllah Nawaz Sharif will once again clean sweep the elections and form a government that can tame the rogue generals.
Turkish Leaders are impressed by Nawaz Sharif because of his visionary projects including:
1. Deregulation of AIR SERVICES industry. Private airlines (Bhoja, Aero Asia) were established in Pakistan for the 1st time as a consequence of open skies policy of PML.
2. Deregulation of TELECOMM. As a result, mobile phone services of Paktel, Instaphone and Mobilink were launched in that era.
3. Deregulation of BANKING. 10 new banks (Soneri bank, Bank Al Habib, Askari etc) were launched in 1991-92 and for the first time private sector was allowed banking licenses.
4. Foreign EXCHANGE reforms that led individuals to operate foreign currency at their freedom.
5. GWADAR PORT to make trade corridor for China and Central Asia. Gwadar is a natural place ideal for deep sea port. But Mush govt has been paying only lip service detracted from the project plan.
6. Reforms in Railways and PIA. He inducted a professional management in PIA. This management team was dismissed by Musharraf and it launched private airline called Airblue (far more profitable and efficient than PIA). Railway’s rape in the hands of Mush’s Generals is known to everyone.
7. MOTORWAY to connect Karachi to Khyber, ultimately make Pakistan a trade route for Central Asian States approaching the Arabian Sea and generate income and vast employment opportunities. BB stopped Motorway and Mush slowed down the work.
8. Reforms in INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. Pakistan’s city of Lahore was being made IT hub of Asia and Punjab IT Board was established with highly qualified management. The concept of e-Governance was introduced, which was copied by Chadhra Babu Naidu-CM of Andhra Pradesh and Bangalore became IT hub of Asia (India’s IT exports far exceed the entire export base of Pakistan!).
9. He conducted NUCLEAR explosion and made Pakistan the 7th nuclear power in the world, despite huge pressure and tantalizing monetary offers from USA and Japan.
10. He broke the begging bowl and refused to take aid from other countries. The present Government of Punjab is also following this model of self-reliance (unlike Sindh and KPK taking European and US Aid).
PML-N is the only party to call for debate on defense budget in the National Assembly. PML-N has taken principled stance on various issues of public importance by restoration of judiciary (led long march forcing the govt to restore judiciary at 3:00 am past-midnight on 16th March 2009), vehemently opposing the passage of NRO (other parties had to follow subsequently), verification of the degrees of elected representatives (it sacrificed its members and helped in verification, unlike PPP that is still withholding the process in Sindh & Balochistan), dual nationality of public office holders (again PML-N sacrificed its few members to uphold the supremacy of law.
UK national Rehman Malik knows about various dual nationals sitting in the government but keeping his mouth shut!).
It was PML-N that highlighted the issue of Railways Scandal of Army Generals when Chaudhry Nisar was chairing the Public Accounts Committee. He made sure that the corruption is not buried and now the matter is in the Supreme Court against 3 Generals.
How could this all be acceptable to the establishment? They have been trying to stop the revolution of PML-N by conspiracies against Punjab government (IB’s secret funds were misused in February-March 2009 to dislodge the govt, when assembly was dissolved by PPP Governor) and pumping a small gang blowing it up as a large party to break the vote bank of PML-N (its playboy leader uses his abusive mouth against PML-N only and remains shut about other 3 provincial governments and the federal government). The playboy leader is also financed by real estate tycoon
The Turkish government is independent of establishment's media propaganda and has witnessed the progress on ground. While they are rightly prasing Nawaz Sharif and the provincial government of Shehbaz Sharif, they can also share their experience of taming the military and jailing large number of military officers on charges of plotting coup.
Pak-Turk Dosti Paindabad!
