Recently Sharif Brothers have started a Yellow Cab Scheme. According to this Scheme the Graduates of Punjab will get a Taxi for 10 Percent Downpayment with no Interest at all.
In this process Punjab Gov. will buy 20,000 Cars from Suzuki. But Who have shortlisted Suzuki for this project nobody knows?????......
But the main point is that in 2011/2012 Budget 4.5 Billion Rupees will be spent on this project only..
But the downside of this Project is that they are just being bought from Suzuki which simply assembles these cars in Pakistan.......And most of spares will also be imported from Abroad.....
But if the same amount could be spent in a wise manner then just Imagine what we can achieve!!!!.... I am discussing a Break Down of 4.5 Billion project if implement in a wise manner then what would happen and how much economic activity we can generate......
1) CAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY :
Any Car Production facility of making 50,000 cars a year cost around 1.5 Billion rupees and it generates an employment of atleast thousand people on a long term and indirect thousands of jobs.At Present there is no Big Car manufacturing facility in Punjab so it could lead to establishment of first big Car manufacturing company.
2 )100 % LOCAL CAR MANUFACTURING CONDITION:
When any Car is manufactured rather than Assembled then the whole Engineering industry makes spares for automobiles locally rather than importing them and in this case more generation of jobs and it helps in self relaince...So a small condition of 100 Percent Made in Pakistan Taxi could generate more jobs and our indigenous development but sadly this condition never materialized in any Yellow cab scheme.
2) RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (R&D)UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM FOR AUTOMOBILES:
If only 500 million will be spent on the indigenous development of Technology of Car Manufacturing in Universities in Pakistan then in the long run we could develop these cars in Pakistan....At present our Universities are spending none on it...
3)EMPLOYMENT OF 2000 RESEARCHES AND ENGINEERS FOR AUTOMOBILE DEVELOPMENT IN ONLY 2 BILLION RUPEES::
At present in Pakistan Engineers and Researches that work for the research and development of cars and automobiles in Pakistan are non existent...
Just imagine if Sharif Brothers will start a project of just 2 billion for research and development of Automobiles in pakistan then if every researcher will be paid 50,000 RS Lump Sum Salary then still we would have more than 2000 Engineers that could work for the research and devlopment and create more jobs and Self Reliance
( I break Down 2 Billion into ( 2 Billion / 12 Months ) =16 Crore Approx. Per Month.............)
If every Engineer is Paid 50,000 RS then One Crore = 200 Engineers Per Month Salaray and 2000 Engineers =10 Crore Monthly............apart from 6 crore per month extra expenditure for office works........
BMW one of the Biggest Companies have 8000 Employees for Research and development and we could achieve atleast 25 percent of workforce of that company by 2000 R&D employees in Pakistan in only 2 billion rupees....

So if 4.5 billion will be spent wisely then Just Imagine what we can achieve. In the long run then Pakistan could make its own cars with lot less money.Still they will have another 500 million for Procurement of Taxis...It will be a slow process but it have good long term implications..
But sadly Our Politicians and Beauracracy are not wise enough to think in a long term manner and they only think about commissions,kickbacks, sasti suhrat and their personal interests...............
If it would be Europe then the same amount will be spent in a Manner that it would have both short and long term effects for the benefit of the region and it will generate jobs and also it will lead to Self Reliance.....
But sadly this is Pakistan and we have no distant view at all..........
