Empty the city, empty its paths, empty streets and the house is empty
Empty the cup, empty the table, the wine and bottle are empty

The loves of this heart's garden have migrated in droves
Empty the garden, empty the bed of flowers, empty branches and the nest is empty

Alas world! Here even a friend is afraid of another friend.
The thirsty buds are scared of the orchard's scent
A lover is scared of being known for a meeting
The fingers of musicians scared of the strings
Night riders are scared of even (smooth) roads
And this physician is scared of seeing a patient

The tunes get broken and the pain of poets crosses its limit
The years of waiting are past worst for me and you
    Our acquaintances became unacquainted
As I said "yes" it became a misfortune

I cried I groaned, I whined on every door
I beat every brick of a ruined cottage on my head
Water does not know of its depth, as sleping ones do not know of sleep
The eyes withered and the river worn out
The sky looked down on our our myths
The cup does not froth and love has no bosom to rest
Nobody hears my heart and my silenced cry

Come back so that gone caravans can get back
Come back so that charming dears also get back
Come back so that minstrels, songs and tunes also get back
Come back so that we could drop on Hafiz's (famous Iranian poet) door
Come so that we may strew roses and pour wine into the cup

  9. Musician, Great you're back along with one of your favourite songs. So now we can offer you belated congratulations on having passed the 2000th post mark on Sher-o-Naghma. It is an event and should be celebrated as such, I'm sure you'll agree.

    "something remarkable"?

It is almost impossible but in this there is everything, poetry, composition and renedition. Every verse is beautiful, beautifully composed and beautifully sung. Almost remarkable. I sincerely hope that it will meet your standard

  25. Thank you, Musician, Ghulam Ali was full of charm like everything he sings.

FJ, you spoilt us totally and we are deeply indebted to you. What touched me the most among all that you posted was: Kahan se aaye badra.

I liked the Sindhi song, too, iamsowise.

And now my own contribution to our onging celebrations: A KK you all remember no doubt from the past:

Where do I begin? Yes, I know. I accept that you were young once........ and you are still young at heart. What an allround taste. From Sitar to Geeta Dutt. I had almost started cursing you when you did not post "Hoon Abhi mein Jawan" from Aar Paar, but then you did and I thought since you started the theme, I might add one or two from the time when she was Geeta Roy.

    Dear Musician

Thanks for ur appreciation and kind words.

BTW I am not that Old .. only 120 years young LOL.

Most of Geeta Dutt songs are before my arrival in this beautiful world, I grew up listening these songs as My dad used to listen to them so I had an acquired taste for them. I love poetry, any good poetry and when its mixed with a beautiful voice then its soone pe suhagah.

Having said that I could never developed a taste for certain sad songs and I think it was good that I did not. I always like "umeed bhare Gaane" and appreciate the bounties of Life and whatever comes with it, good or bad.

So here is something for you.

So, it runs in the family FJ? I am not surprised for the acquired taste.

"I love poetry, any good poetry and when its mixed with a beautiful voice then its soone pe suhagah."

But your above statement is at a variance with not having a taste for sad songs. If a sad song has good poetry, good composition and good singer then what is left?

Liking said songs does not mean that one is no pur-umeed. I think it is the sad moments in our lives that make us apprecciate the good ones when they come along.

I think this one sums up what I beleive in:

Thanks Mirza Ghalib. The poetry was really deep (http://pkpolitics.com/discuss/topic/sher-o-naghma/page/41#post-246240) and song composition was quite unique.

Anyway here is another song, which is equally good.
