Shocking news!! Baqol Iftikhar Arif
"Deewar kia giri mere kacchay makaan ki
logon ne mere sehn main rastay bana liyay"This restaurant should be closed immediately and the owner should be called to explain and duly punished for discrimination against Pakistanis.

This is happening all over the Muslim world. Even in Saudi Arabia, the so called land of sharia. The exclusive Western living compounds bar hijabi women from entering. One of my Muslim American friend's wife was a Hijabi. The guard prevented her from entering the compound saying she is not allowed. The Muslim got offended and asked does he has to tie his wife like a dog outside the compound and enter alone? The guard started giving excuuses saying there are women in bikinis and it is not good for hijabi women to enter. As a matter of fact such componds are rented/leased at a very high rent by corrupt princes who will do anything to make money.
Is it not same with Pakistani slaves who want to become rich renting such places to their masters?

thats sad.
on ghareeb's point,
yes these compounds do exist,
the only thing left is to place "white only" signs of pure racism.well, Saudi Arabia is very strict on terrorism, so maybe they dont want to take risk of allowing normal saudi public.

I agree with the sentiment in the above comments but we should look at the other point of views.
- This is an old stoy.
- In a report here, BBC has published some findings after interviewing the owner of the restaurant and has concluded that these reports were just the result of misunderstandings. As the owner of the restaurant Mr. Jean-Luc Hue explains:“This is just a misunderstanding, I only put the sign up for the month of Ramadan. Since it was not worth it for them to come after the fast breaks [at sunset], I decided to put up the sign but some people didn’t appreciate it,”

Anyway, diplomatic enclave is closed for common people, what is the fuss about? Mostly foreigners live in diplomatic enclave with some elite Pakistanis. Higher level treasons and treachery is being committed by rulers, which needs to be exposed by amir liaqat
The location is same as green zone of Baghdad -heavily fortified.

Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
WE should BRING DOWN such places AS A NATION.
I don't care of the consequences. SUCH places ARE NOT ALLOWED within our NATION.
NO! one can deny us from going anywhere within our own land.
Didn't the British bug Pakistan's embassy in UK ? Didn't US do it with Pakistan's embassy in US ?!?!!
I know of many American enclaves which are secret, where no Pakistanis' are allowed. These are strategic places, where we Pakistanis' SHOULD HAVE FULL ACCESS. I don't care if American security is hampered.
We MUST! know what they are doing on our land.

Selection of words (as mentioned) looks/sounds racist.
'Only for foreigners and not for Pakistanis'; for what reason Pakistanis are not allowed in?Was it due to the food & beverage, as explained by the restaurant manager? He should have clarified this or was he afraid of repercussions to mention the nature of F&B as halal or haram or was it the availability of food during daytime?
He should have been bold enough to mention 'F&B not according to Muslim faith'. That may have served the purpose without an uproar of protests and left to the free will of any who wished to be entertained.
Saying 'Pakistanis not allowed' conveys a very different meaning, that is certainly discriminative, and not as what the owner explained.
Even if it happens to be in a no go area the point is if signs are meant to be seen than a careful and appropriate selection of words is called for so as to convey the required and not an offensive message.

Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,
I would accept it if they would have clarified their position.
However, the least I would want is for Pakistani security agencies/forces to ALWAYS have an eye on such enclaves.
These places often turn out to be 'den of vipers' (snake)

It is not wise to create a snake out of rope, it would be a joke.
What I understand the intention of the management of Restaurant was a mark of respect for the month of Ramadhan, what could have been appreciated.
One could loose credibility where he/she lacks to differentiate between an earthworm and the real snake and tries to make a non-issue an issue.
It is not good for a TV anchor to create panic out of a news, through second hand source.Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 11:57 # -
An ambiguous/vague ‘sign’ at display, is the subject being discussed; as a cause of controversy and reason enough to be brought up by the media itself.
Reflects poorly on restaurant management. No use acting first and explaining through lame excuses afterwards. All outlets managed by foreigners and catering for/targeting non-Muslim clientele should comply and respect the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, being allowed an opportunity of opening up a business so as they are able to cater for their kith and kin.
Signs at display for a business should be explanatory and not discriminatory similar to South African apartheid. This sign was ‘Pakistanis not allowed’ screaming out for what it meant.
At times our media plays a credible role identifying and naming out the ills of the West and that includes discrimination. We don’t have the concept of nigers here. Pakistanis are Pakistanis and should be treated as a respectable nation.

The issue should have been closed after a valid and understandable explanation by the owner of the Restaurant.
"foreigners only".
The sign has now been removed from the window of the Cordon Rouge restaurant.
Its owner, Jean-Luc Hue, admits he chose the wrong wording but says it is all a "misunderstanding". He says he had valid reason to put the notice up.
Cordon Rouge is in Islamabad's highly-secured diplomatic enclave, close to embassies and government buildings.
"This is just a misunderstanding," Mr Hue says. "I only put the sign up for the month of Ramadan."
He explains that food outlets in Islamabad needed to get official permission to allow them to open during the day, while people are fasting."His explanation makes a sense that it was in good faith and his intention was not based upon discrimination.
It is not valid to keep on stretching an issue where the cause of action has been removed.
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 13:23 # -
Actually the sign 'foreigners only' is very offensive, whatever the reason owner had in mind but it means that Pakistanis are not allowed.
There could be locals who are not fasting due to conditions allowed in Islam, but they are not allowed.
Yes, the area is elite and Pakistanis who live there are also elite and they complained on restaurant's behavior of not allowing.
Owner gave excuses after ill practices got exposed.
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 13:27 # -
Do you still want to punish him even after his explanation?
I am fully convinced that his intention was not bad.
He didn't stay adamant and wisely removed the sign, respecting the touchy feelings of Pakistanis.
The propaganda should have been closed.
Pakistan has already suffered a lot due to a psychology of making an elephant out of mouse.
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 13:38 # -
Punishment should be there for violating the law and I like to see it coming through.
If it is propaganda then I guess Pakistan and Pakistanis are not alone, add in UK and BBC in the list too!
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 13:43 # -
Pakistanis are totally against discriminatory signs based on apartheid. Such practices should be condemned and made public for all to know about heinous thoughts/motives practiced by foreigners about Pakistanis in Pakistan.
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 15:23 # -
Another reason may be due to fact that majority of Pakistanis do not understand English and the perpetrator may have the attitude "Who cares" or "So what". This also stems from the pride and arrogance among foreigners who know very well that elite Pakistanis who brag about their fluency in English love them more than they love fellow Pakistanis.
Posted 2 years ago on 13 Nov 2009 15:34 # -
Ghareeb bhai,
The restaurant is in "green zone" kind of area, no ordinary person is allowed in there.
Complaints came from elite Pakistanis.

Ive heard from a friend that the sign actually read:
"Only for Non-Muslims and Foreigners"
and it was put-out due to Ramadan.
Does anyone have a pic of that sign?
