khanseena,
They strongly believe in merit and are willing to sue when accused of nepotism.
Same thing happened when Bloomberg News wrote a bad article about them, Bloomberg ended up apologizing.
They call their form of government Meritocracy.Posted 2 years ago on 17 Apr 2010 14:35 # -

Actually I think Singapore closely controls news about its rulers and suppresses the press.

Singapore is a Police State tightly controlled by its rulers. People of Singapore sacrifice their freedom for prosperity, safety and welfare.
For example: One could go to jail for throwing rubbish on the street or evading taxes even $100.Posted 2 years ago on 17 Apr 2010 16:47 # -
Colonel Muhammad Khan visited Switzerland and a gril was traveling by his side in the plane. She told him that Switzerland did not have resources of their own so they decided to concentrate on three things, a)tourism, b)banking c)jewelery and watch making.
Now they are a nation with one of the highest per capita income!!

Singapore is a great place to live and raise kids with wonderful education system focused on setting high standards. It is crime-free society and punishments are very severe even for small crimes. Govt look after their people through good welfare system.

Singapore is a wonderful place....however the press is controlled. Maybe that is a good idea, looking at the sensationalism propagated by our media.

We too need a system like Singapore to fix up our problems but it is not possible to control 160 million people comapred to 5 million population of Singapore. However, we can adopt some good models of good governance of Singapore. Any model can only succeed if we first get rid of rampant corruption from our society. I have lived in Singapore for some time and it is great place to live and raise kids. I never ever paid $1 bribe in Singapore but I was forced in Pakistan not 1 time but on several times to pay bribe even for releasing my unaccompanied baggage from airport.
I wonder why most of Muslim nations on planet earth are so corrupt and incompetent.Posted 2 years ago on 19 Apr 2010 9:47 #
