Stealth Technology

  1. Why Pak army's radar sytsem failed to detect American helicopters?
    Actually stealth is a old but secret western technology. Slim flying object is harder for a radar to detect. in simple words stealth technology is a "invisibility cloak" for an aircraft.

    As nota mentioned earlier that Nazis invented this technology in 1941.

  2. Very Interesting but there are few stealth shot down so they are not entirely stealth though in majority of the cases it carries out its operation before its detected.

  3. In the entire Abbotabad story, the one indisputable fact was the remains of a downed helicopter. First we heard it was a Pakistani heli, then that it was part of the US arsenal. Later we heard it was stealth. Later still it came out the Pakistanis had removed the remnants and were studying them carefully. Finally it came out we were handing them over to the Chinese. The last news to date was that we'd agreed to give the wreck back to the US.

    Is anyone in a position to comment on the above so some sense could be made out of the whole imbroglio which made our Shuja Pasha fall on his sword?

    Acquired technology will always be disappointing when the defense has to be ensured against the technology providing countries. Indigenous development of technologies is indispensable for an ensured defense.

    but there are few stealth shot down so they are not entirely stealth

    The moment the stealth uses its radar, it ceases to be stealth.

    Usually guided by satellites or other AWACS planes so they wouldnt need to use their radar.

    But the moment the ystart transmitting, they are naked.

  6. US got Air technology advantage, If US decided to bomb Pakistan, US army will use stealth B52 bombers, Pak army don't have advanced Radar system to detect stealth air craft.

    BTW: US army is already using stealth B52 to monitor Pak army activities and off course nuclear sites.

    Our defense is fragile as we don't have the proper defense technology with us. For example our guided missiles depend entirely upon the GPS signals from the satellite (owned and operated by US). So if the world's super power wishes, it can deprive us of the guidance system of these missiles and then these would be piece of junk.
    Having said this depressing thought of mine I would go on discussing even most depressing thing that neither we have this technology and nor we have shown any will to achieve any such thing
    We are not clear about our priorities. If we are making missiles, we have developed nuclear capability, we are maintaining a sizable army, this means we have enemies. If we have enemies, we should be striving to get an upper edge on all the fronts. Our upper edge so far has been the percentage of expenditure on the budget and nothing else. The recent attacks on (Osama killing and Mehran base) show that our budget expenditure (got by squeezing us) has gone to trash (and generals' Swiss accounts). Where our defense capability stands now is a big question mark and demoralizing to me at least.
    Let's think on that and let's build Pakistan on all fronts and defense is one of the vital ones that we need to work on.

  9. Pakistan let China see crashed U.S. "stealth" copter
    Pakistan allowed Chinese military engineers to photograph and take samples from the top-secret stealth helicopter that US special forces left behind when they killed Osama bin Laden, the Financial Times has learnt.

    The action is the latest incident to underscore the increasingly complicated relationship and lack of trust between Islamabad and Washington following the raid.

    “The US now has information that Pakistan, particularly the ISI, gave access to the Chinese military to the downed helicopter in Abbottabad,” said one person in intelligence circles, referring to the Pakistani spy agency. The Chinese engineers were allowed to survey the wreckage and take photographs of it, as well as take samples of the special “stealth” skin that allowed the American team to enter Pakistan undetected by radar, he said.

    President Barack Obama’s national security council had been discussing this incident and trying to decide how to respond. A senior official said the situation “doesn’t make us happy”, but that the administration had little recourse.

    @iamsowise,

    You are giving too much respect to our air defense which post-02/05 has transpired into a massive joke. USAF does need to put in action a $2 billion aircraft which is a relic of the cold war. Read "Operation Babylon" and you'd realize that even after 30 years, a long range strike on a precise target is very much achievable with devastating effects even without stealth.

    Technology has evolved since that Israeli raid and in present time a technologically superior force like USAF can deploy multiple non-stealth assets to inflict maximum damage to a country like Pakistan. Our radars can first be blinded at night by dedicated electronic warfare aircraft like EA-18G Growlers followed by a wave of F-15E Strike Eagles flying close to the ground with F-15 Eagles air superiority fighters flying as top cover for the raiding party.

    The Yanks can't save there special forces from RPG fire from the Talibs, but the Pakistanis want us to believe that the Yanks crossed 100 miles from the border and nobody picked up these so-called stealth copters.

    پاکستان نے حال ہی چین کی مدد سے سیٹلائٹ خلا میں بھیجی ہے

    ویسے کروز مزائل کے لئے جی پی ایس چاہیے ہوتا ہے، بیلسٹک کے لئے نہیں، اور ایٹمی میزائل کے لئے ضروری نہیں کہ بلکل نشانے پر لگے، ایک دو کلومیٹر آگے پیچھے بھی ہو جائے تو نقصان اتنا ہی کرتا ہے، اس لئے مایوسی نہ پھیلائیں

    یہ ہیلی کاپٹر والی ٹیکنالوجی اب پاکستان اور چین کے ہاتھ لگ چکی ہے، اس کے مٹیریل کمپوزیشن پر ریسرچ ہوگی، ڈیزائن پر ریسرچ ہوگی اور تعمیر چین کرے گا

    اور ہاں یہ کہنا کہ آرمی چیف جرنل اشفاق پرویز کیانی کو اس آپریشن کی اطلاع نہیں تھی ایک سفید جھوٹ ہے، وہ سارا وقت کمانڈ پوسٹ میں بیٹھ کر ساری صورتحال کو دیکھ رہے تھے، یہ غدار ویسے ہی تو تین سال کی توسیع نہیں لے لیتے

    @Salam,

    Bhai, bilkul theek farmaya aap nay. Na sirf Kiyani was in the loop but our air defenses gave them a free passage with an obvious consent. Yahi nahi, yeh raiding party apnay target ko approach karnay say pahlay kahin land hui thi jahan hamari forces nay inko refuel kiya aur logistics support di.

    The interim landing was in Kala Dhaka area, near Mansehra. According to news reports, the refueling was performed by the local set-up of CIA, who can be either local CIA private contractors or elements within armed forces.

    Stealth or not stealth...this is not the question. The question is when will the army start speaking the truth? Personally I do not doubt that they had a hand or two in this sorry affair!
