Pakistan's Supreme court is set to hear petitions seeking the prosecution of the main opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, for murder.

According to documents obtained by the BBC, the court will hear the accusations against Mr Sharif and then decide whether to pursue the charges.

The petitions call for Mr Sharif's arrest and prosecution.

He has denied ordering the murder of an ex-army officer after an alleged political kickbacks deal turned sour.

Nawaz Sharif, twice elected as Pakistan's prime minister, has recently been acquitted of similar criminal charges by the Supreme Court.

The court's decision was made on 21 July but it is expected to begin its inquiries imminently.

Acquitted in hijacking case, only to be brought to book on murder.

i dont think any harm whatsoever will be done to NAwaz Sharif, its all gimick to me.

all sorts of columns could be written, but no action can be taken at all.

@quaidkamazaar I will be surprised if anything comes from this, but I do think it's interesting that it's going this far.

Does the Court know something we don't know?

  11. our history has told us that nobody is going to get away with his/her ultimate .........
our army establishment has a very very cunning mind.
it always wants a formal ,official FIR to be on record against every politician....so they can use it at their own convenience ....when ever it requires and a politician refuses or objects to any of ISI or army order .
see ..an FIR against Bhutto ,made an excuse for a military ruler to hang him .
an FIR of Murtuza murder has been registered against Zardari .
and now u can see an FIR against NS .
so its the Big Game ..
u need to have Big shoes on ,to play it .
    maybe army boots .

  12. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

The decisions made in the court of LAW are perhaps one of THE!!! most important decisions, made in a nation's history.

I as an educated person, as a law abiding citizen, am very much interested in knowing what Pakistani courts are doing.

Are they helping Pakistan make progress or are they selling themselves which will destroy! Pakistan?

I have a feeling, I know it from within, if Pakistani courts do not function as ALLAH ALMIGHTY has decreed, then my existence is an illusion. I have no future. I have no hope of conducting business. NO!! one in this country has a future.

People are bringing the dirty things politician has done not because they are sincere but Just to target Nawaz Sharif for his current stand for rule of law etc

  14. Assalam-o-Alaikum-Warahmat-ULLAH ALL,

@GOOGLE: Even if things like these don't surface, Nawaz Sharif has 'other' incentives to make him give up his ask.

Furthermore, the way Nawaz Sharif's people are portraying this matter in the public, an element of 'grudge' is apparent, which is also distorting his demand.

Although His grudge is legitimate, relevant, since his publicly elected govt. was illegally dismissed in 1998 by Musharraf, it is NOT a good thing to portray it in masses because that promotes the idea of 'bias' in the matters of LAW and ORDER, which is not liked by masses.

I am ALL!! for Musharraf's trial. I'll support anyone who brings that traitor, mass murderer of Pakistanis', plunderer of state resources, in the court of LAW.

I stand with JUSTICE, rule of LAW
