Taliban at War in Afghanistan ?

A little information about the War in Afghanistan.

If you were a Pushtoon then you would have been familiar with a Pushto saying-

    Quote

" Mara Gaida Parsi Waie" end of quote.

Translation- A full stomach speaks Farsi.

( By implication a hungry stomach speaks Pushto)

This is important to know as without knowing this saying one cannot understand the political dynamics in Afghanistan today.

Everyone on this blog and outside has views about the Taliban as being quote-
"terrorists, freedom fighters, mujaheddin and so on".

But there is another dimension to this thing and here it is.

The rural Pushtoons who are in a majority have resented the domination of the Farsi speaking rich elite of Kabul.
This has been the case since Afghanistan was made into a country by Ahmad Shah Abdali-( a Durrani Pushtoon).
The rural masses have supported the Pushtoon politicians and kings only to find that their Pushtoon " brothers" metamorphosed and joined the Farsi Speaking elite of Kabul.
And thus the rural masses have felt betrayed again and again.

THIS is the basis of the Pushtoon( rural) dominated Taliban movement.
It is THIS which has caused this political revolution to assume the appearance ( or disguise) of being dominated by the Pushtunwali traditions( masquerading in the form of Islamic doctrine)
The harshness that has been visible during the Taliban rule has it's basis in this PENT UP political emotion.

Hence the In-YOUR Face thrust of the harsh Taliban legal edicts that so infuriated and antagonized the world-( with a great deal of help from the Western Financed News Media). Of course the Kabul based Farsi speaking elite played their role masterfully in DEMONIZING the Taliban movement.

The Rural poor vs. rich urban elite is the shape of things to come in the underdeveloped world- esp in South Asia.
The volcano is boiling and it IS going to explode in Pakistan( and India I might add) and no amount of force can stop this.

    thanks shimatoree

interesting and concise description of afghan phenomena, i remember reading NYT column using same term 'clash of class' to describe the situation-

unfortunately the way families are committing collective suicide due to harsh/extreme economic situation (despite the fact that we have all basic necessities made locally), it is clear that poor class coupled with middle class will take over elite class left by british after nurturing & culturing them for over 200 years-

The Soviets and the American have caused all these existing problems of these two Muslims countries. Firstly, the Soviets occupied Afghanistan and then secondly the Americans interfered to drive them out. That was how the dirty game started up. The sufferings of this dirty game of the Soviets and the Americans are pouring into the accounts of Afghns and Pakistanis.

I am not sure that outsiders can have much devious role in Afghanistan s ultimate evolution. The role that has been assigned to Pakistan by theANP, PPP and the Farsi crowd from Kabul and the northern parts. Is much magnified than it actually is.Of course in any political situation everyone uses who ever they can. more later

shimatoree, are you saying it is pukhtuns own fault that we were invaded and marginalized by soviets and americans and there local pakistani and iranian agents?

We should all celebrate our predicament then? Your analysis leads to the idea that we will keep fighting, no matter the outside interference. I disagree with this for many reasons.
