Miscreants set ablaze an office of a local organization and three vehicles.

Unidentified attackers fired and killed a party worker, identified as Khurram, at his Pan shop in the busy area of Kharadar. This triggered a bout of heavy firing that spread a wave of tension in the entire area where enraged people set on fire a bus, truck and a rikshaw beside an office of a local organization.

Tension spread in all these areas where patrolling by police and Rangers personnel was undertaken to maintain order.

Latest reports have confirmed that a child who received injuries as a result of firing in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area later succumbed to his wounds and died.

..3 vehicles were torched on MA Jinnah Road and reportedly office of sunni tehreek was torched in Kharadar area..

It wasn't sunni tehreek's office but Peoples party sponsored Liyari Amn Committee's office that was torched by MQM men in Kharadar. Sunni Tehreek too have issues with MQM in that area and in recent months they had gunned down each others members but the current clash was between PPP's goons and MQMized thugs.

In pehlwan goth too situation was tense after ANP men and notorious gangster cheif's men clashed.

Deathtoll has risen to 18 since yesterday.

Once again target killings escalate. 12 dead since last night. Pathan tea hotel in Gulshan was attacked in which two people lost their lives and 4 were injured. 2 Policeman investigating Geo's Wali Khan Babar murder case and who had helped recover car used in his murder was also gunned down.(in that case MQM's liaqutabad unit's name was being taken and the recovered car too was linked to their unit terrorists.)

Earlier in the week MQM had killed two of People's Amn Committee's men and had burnt them after they died. Later they had also burnt one of liyari committee's office in Kharadar area . Now since last 3 days Amn Committee's gang seem to be retaliating and have gunned down few of MQM's men,Naturally MQM isn't happy and is whining and protesting that President should take notice or else we'll take some decisive action(Blackmailing attempt for 40th consecutive time since they joined PPP led coalition govt )

I dont blame MQM or ANP or sunni tehreek or Qabza Mafia.

I now blame PPP government. This has happened enough times. If they cant control them after so many years they should resign.

You can not blame criminals on committing crime. This is their job.

The problem is Zardari has to keep MQM happy or his government will come down in no time. N-League and Q-League should at this point support Zardari if the PPP government gets ready to take on the terrorist in Karachi.

I agree with bsobaod.if ppp was sincere it would have taken out the crimnal elements but it wants to appease all its "itihaadis" i cant understand how hard is it to nab these crimnals and murderers. PPP wants to ensure that there is volatility and insecurity in Karachi, and that way MQM/ANP keep fighting and are busy with their own maslas rather than state problems or interfere with PPP power politics.

ANP/MQM are in a power politics war and they dont care about PPPs corruption or illgovernance... they are just busy with each other.

    Win Win for PPP.

Death toll so far in current month is touching almost 200 mark and still there r 6 more days to go before month ends..

    @Qaimkhani

How could some one be 'constructive' or 'positive' about almost 200 innocent souls being gunned down almost on daily basis. Killers don't know why they're hunting their victims and the innocent victims who r being randomly hunted don't know what was their fault to meet such a tragic fate..

Your problem is you belong to and blindly support a criminal gang which has his hands stained in blood of innocent Karachiites.. All those who support this brutal criminal gang are an equal partner in crime ..

    Ethnic divide hits city hospitals

KARACHI, March 23: While parts of the city have been in the grip of ethnic violence once again for the past many days, it is observed that the victims of targeted attacks as well as patients belonging to certain communities were usually not taken to the nearest government hospital.

The alarming trend where people with a certain ethnic background avoid some hospitals even if they are in a precarious condition has developed over the years, though it becomes noticeable during spates of ethnic killings and violence that the city often witnesses.

“Yes, there is a clear pattern that Pakhtun victims of targeted attacks are not taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment; they even don`t allow the bodies of targeted killing victims to be taken to the ASH,” said a senior official of the medico-legal section of the Sindh government on the condition of anonymity.

The official cited the recent killing of ANP general secretary of district west Advocate Mohammad Hanif Khan, saying that the victim was attacked in SITE`s Metroville area but was taken all the way to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

A senior doctor of the JPMC also confirmed the pattern, saying that the JPMC received patients, including those with gunshot wounds, from as far as central and west districts of the city.

“There have been several instances where the body of a targeted killing victim was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital mortuary but the heirs took away the body to another hospital,” charity workers said.

    Ambulance workers know

Senior official of the Edhi Foundation Anwer Kazmi also confirmed to that the trend had been in evidence for the past many years. He said people belonging to a certain community avoided going to some hospitals.

“Now even ambulance drivers have learnt as to which hospital the body of a victim from a certain ethnic background should be shifted,” Mr Kazmi said, adding that in case a friend or relative of the victim was present at the time of shifting the driver acted on their advice.

“Generally people belonging to the Pakhtun community go to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment, while those belonging to the Urdu-speaking community by choice visit the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital,” he said.

Former President of the Pakistan Medical Association Dr Habibur Rehman Soomro confirmed the trend, saying that certain ethnic communities avoided visiting some hospitals.

“Everyone is witness to this alarming trend but no one is ready to point it out,” he said, citing the air of mistrust prevailing in the metropolis.

He said the practice was followed not only by the Pakhtun community, but also by people from other ethnic backgrounds. He explained that if there was a conflict going on between the Urdu-speaking and Sindhi-speaking people, the Sindhi-speaking people would avoid visiting certain hospitals.

The former PMA president said that the trend had been there for the past 10 to 15 years. He went on to say that certain private-sector hospitals were also following such a trend and were offering community-based services.

    Just an impression

However, Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed dispelled the impression that Pakhtuns avoided going to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

“A visit to the hospital would show you that the Pakhtuns are under treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital,” he said. He added that if statistics from the police surgeon office were examined, they would also dispel this impression. “There may be an impression, but it`s not true in reality,” he insisted.

  19. This is true that hospitals are ethnically divided. Since the former don of Karachi used to be admitted in Abbassi shaheed hospital in late 80's, it was a no go area for non urdu speakers. In fact once, MQM shot few people outside Abbassi and the injured were brought to JPMC.
The trend since late 80's is as follow.

    JPMC: ANP, JA Sindh
    Civil: PPP, Baluch
    Abbassi: MQM

Although there will be always a case where the other ethnic group will go to the opposite party's hospital just because they were so desperate.

I was actually very surprised when I read the news in Jang that one of ANP leader was shot in SITE area and was taken to JPMC where he died.

I remember at one stage in late 80's Altaf hand picked MQM Worker doctor's for all Abbassi departments so that from guards to ward boy to surgeons and nurses, all were either MQM, APMSO members / workers or were pro MQM.

Its sad as MQM is the mother of this hatred spread in hospitals.

Talk of the hypocrisy, specially when it comes off your mouth. Did you forget your own criminal past from from 70's and early 80's being part of JI and IJT. Those goon terrorized the universities. Aren't your people the ones started this mess fighting with NSF, PSF and whatnot. In the hindsight, your folks should held responsible and tried in court since you were also trained in Afghan war and in Kashmir and you definitely are who have introduced arms to KArachi. So remember next time you finger point at someone, there are four fingers are towards you. What MQM does is in its defence; show me a time when it has sent a lashkar to invade areas such has happened in Aligarh and Qasba Colony by your Afghan mo-fu cronies. You should be ashamed of your past and ask for repentance since you belong to criminal so-called 'religious' organization.

I have deep respect for Maududi as religious scholar but JI, I am certain it was good thing MQM has replaced it since this spineless outfit was there for self-serving reasons. Your folks have filled places like PIA and Steel Mills; clear examples of nepotism. Shame on you; you so-called muslim.

You are right, but it is a learned trait; someone else was doing it before MQM's inception. It was PPP and Jiay Sindh; hence they are the primary culprits. Blaming on MQM everything has become a since it is a hard target and people truly despise their public acceptance, solidarity and vision.

Karachi political attacks kill 50, say rights groups

At least 50 people have been killed over the past fortnight in targeted killings in the Pakistani city of Karachi, rights groups say.

The violence started with an attack on 12 March on the offices of a local political group allied to Pakistan's governing political party, the PPP.

Dozens of people have since been targeted on an ethnic or sectarian basis across Karachi.

Police officials say most of those killed belong to the Pashtun community.

Karachi has been the scene of growing ethnic tensions due to the arrival of thousands of Pashtuns fleeing conflict in north-western Pakistan.
    'Politically motivated attacks'

Police say the number killed is lower than the estimate put forward by human rights groups.

"According to the figures we have, 109 people have died in violent incidents since 12 March," Saud Mirza, chief of Police in Karachi, told the BBC.

"Out of these only 34 people have been killed in politically motivated attacks."

But the police statistics are contested by local journalists and human rights activists, who say that the actual number of victims is much higher.

They say that the police only confirm political activists or leaders as dying in targeted killings - whereas in reality many more die in attacks carried out against people of specific ethnicities by gunmen.

While most of the dead are ordinary citizens - usually belonging to the Pashtun community - civilians from the Baloch and Urdu-speaking community have also died.

Local Pashtun activists say Karachi's largest party, the MQM, is behind most of the violence. The MQM denies this.

On Monday, a senior MQM leader blamed the violence on gangs of extortionists and land grabbers who had taken the city hostage.

Dr Farooq Sattar was speaking after President Asif Zardari said in an address to parliament that those destroying the peace in Karachi would be dealt with severely.

However police say that several arrests have been made of individuals involved in the killings.

"The situation is now being brought under control," police chief Saud Mirza said.

But human rights organisations say the situation in Karachi is increasingly dangerous and a cause for great concern.

"The continued spate of targeted political killings in Karachi is appalling, as is the inability of the political actors in the city to negotiate their differences peacefully," said Ali Dayan Hasan, Pakistan representative of Human Rights Watch.

"It is the job of the provincial and central governments to ensure the writ of the state is established in the metropolis.

"They must ensure that all political parties complicit in these target killings - whether part of the provincial coalition or not - should be held to account.

"It is a documented fact that all political forces in Karachi, whether it is the MQM or the state, have engaged in human rights abuses including targeted killings in the past."

Look at yourself and rectify your own issues before badnaming others. Or better leave Karachi, people like you are not only hypocrite but menace to the society. IJT and PSF are clearly stigmas for our culture due to their own criminal past and they must be eliminated.

Your hypocracy is so one-sided that you don't see that killing could be a work of opium warlords. These munshiaat pharoosh elements are also have your backing since JI brought them to Pakistan and backed them up. If you really are sincere condemn this janwar 'Shahi Syed'. Don't you see he has all the ill-gotten money that he is laundering and making it legit with his gas stations. Criminal Mafia gang(MQM A) is basically at odds with Pashtuns,PPI,PPP,Baluchs,Sindhis,ANP,Sunni Tehreek,JI,Haqeeqi,Punjabis,Makranis,Jeya Sindh,Karachi Police,Rangers,Army,Lawyers,Media/Journalists,transporters,traders etc

    MQM is killing pathans

MQM is killing Baluchis(Quetta,Pasheen,Chaman tea hotel owners, workers),

MQM is killing gilgitis (These half brained MQMized unit terrorists have killed several gilgitis as well just because they have a fair complexion like Pathans.

MQM have killed Afghani rag pickers, roti(bread) makers.
    he
MQM have killed punjabis.(A lawyer was gunned down near marriot road other day)

    MQM is killing sindhis

MQM is killing Muhajirs.(Surprised? you shouldn’t be! MQM is a terrorist gang so it can kill everybody and anybody. All those who were burnt alive in Tahir Plaza after they were locked up by MQMized unit terrorists were muhajirs. Victim included a woman as well(Hawa ki beti).

Bottom line is that MQM is a criminal gang of opportunists operated by absconding british psycho Altaf and it won’t shy away from mercilessly murdering anyone .

Besides Karachi, its regularly sending dead bodies to all provinces of Pakistan.

Its clear that MQM is at odds with and involved in voilent armed conflict with literally every 1 under the sun, whole world knows that killings r ethnically and politically motivated ,even a thumb sucking toddler from Karachi karachi knows all too well who is the real culprit but as I said earlier, criminally inclined MQMized apologists are in denial and would blame every thing under the sun except for the actual culprit..

Like I have said in past, these friggin' MQMized unit/sector terrorists are so dumba$$ that they gunned down a gilgiti yesterday in North Nazimabad while he was walking home after visiting a medical store in the area. These knuckleheads randomly hunt their victims and as Gilgitis appearance wise are similar to pathans so the poor soul was hunted and gunned down..

Lastly its really preposterous and ludicrous that criminal apologists who have their hands soaked in blood of innocent victims have audacity to talk about afterlife.. Its our firm believe that Creator knows it all and without doubt he is the best judge,he'll not only make these mass murderer scumbags and their accomplices and facilitators pay for the brutal blood bath in afterlife but in their lifetimes as well..

Target Killings continued during last week of March and like BBC's reporter earlier pointed out, most of those killed belong to the Pashtun community..

Several (Altaf's rival)MQM Haqiqi men including Nephew of MQM Haqiqi's leader Amir Khan were shot dead after being chased and ambushed .

In Gulistan-i-Jauhar, 26-year-old Shabih Khan was targeted while he was driving home, the area police said.

They added that armed men riding a motorbike intercepted him near Crown Plaza off main University Road and sprayed him with bullets before speeding away.

“Initial reports said that the victim was driving his car when two men on a motorbike emerged near Usman CNG Station,” said SP Umar Ahsan of the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town. “It seems that he became aware of the riders chasing him and tried his best to dodge them but could not do so due to his lack to knowledge about the routes in the area.”

He said after blocking the victim’s car, one of the riders got off the two-wheeler and opened fired on him. The duo fled leaving Sabih dead on the spot, he added.

“He was a son of Azam Khan, the elder brother of Amir Khan and also a senior member of the party. The victim was unmarried and lived with his family in Liaquatabad but due to a persistent threat to their lives, they moved to Malir Cantonment a few years ago,”

    .

Another worker of the Amir Khan-led faction of the MQM-H was found shot dead in Landhi early in the morning.

    .

In the early hours, a teenage rag-picker was killed in a Sachal area.

On 28th MQMized terrorists burnt Saddar's iconic Empress Market in which mostly businesses are owned by Pathans hailing from Baluchistan. MQM in past too have burnt . and destroyed pathan owned . businesses in Karachi, during March alone dozens of Pathan owned tea hotel owners were gunned down ,,

Traders suspect arson 100 shops burnt in Empress Market : 28 March

    http://www.dawn.com/2011/03/28/traders-suspect-arson-100-shops-burnt-in-empress-market.html

“Normally we insert Section 436 of the PPC in every fire incident…and in this case the shopkeepers` association had openly expressed suspicions that it was actually an arson attack.”

The SSP said that the FIR was necessary to initiate the process of compensation to the affected shopkeepers. However, when asked as to why the FIR was registered on behalf of the state, he replied that none of the shopkeepers had come forward to lodge the FIR and therefore the police registered the case on their own to avoid any further delay.

Sources said that although the police had constituted an inquiry team, there was a dire need to carry out a probe similar to the one ordered by the then chief secretary to ascertain the cause of fire in the 2009 Revenue Record Office fire incident.

The chief secretary had constituted a special police investigation team, which had scientifically proved that the fire at the revenue record office was an arson attack.(MQM had burnt the entire record, during the same period Babar Ghauri's office at PNSC building also caught fire not once but twice on Sundays,MQM was desperately wiping off its traces of corruption by burning records)

The police had collected samples of the ashes from the scene and had sent them to Lahore for a chemical analysis. The results showed presence of chemicals suggesting that it was arson, a senior officer associated with the investigation told Dawn

    -------------------------------------

The suspect was also wanted in the murder of Pakistan Muslim League (N) MNA Zuhair Akram Nadeem, who was killed in Orangi Town in 1998. He was also nominated in the 2000 murder case of Iqbal Raad, a prominent lawyer and one of the counsel for deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the 1999 plane conspiracy case.

The statement said the suspect was also involved in the Pak Colony massacre in the mid-1990s, killing more than a dozen persons, mostly activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H). The CID police said a number of law-enforcement personnel had been after the suspect for the murders, including those of senior police officials and area leaders of different political parties.

“The suspect was also the ringleader of a land mafia gang and assassinated people for money, usually paid by influential individuals. We have also found him involved in kidnapping for ransom cases,” said SSP Umer Shahid of the CID.

Teashop owner killed in Kharadar firing

A teashop owner was killed in firing at Kharadar on Friday, police said. Kharadar Police said that unidentified armed men riding a car opened indiscriminate fire on owner of a teashop in Bulbul-Dastan Building in Kharadar area and fled. As a result Gul Nawab Khan, 45 son of Gul Ghani received bullet injuries and died. The victim was the resident of Hijrat Colony and father of four children.

    Tea room owner shot dead

A few hours later, the owner of a tea shop was killed in an armed attack on his roadside restaurant in the Kharadar area, police said.

They added that 45-year-old Gul Nawab Khan was at the cash counter while a few people were having tea when the restaurant in Juna Market was attacked.

Witnesses were quoted as saying by the police that there were three attackers riding a 1,000-cc car. “There were a few customers having tea as well as some waiters at the time of incident,” said Kharadar SHO Inspector Ghulam Nabi Afridi. He added that Gul Nawab, who was at the cash counter, sustained two bullet wounds.

The attackers, however, did not take away cash or valuables, the inspector said, and showed unawareness about the motive behind the killing.

The police said the victim was a resident of Hijrat Colony and originally hailed from Mansehra. He was married, with four children, they said.

    .

A young man affiliated with a political party was gunned down in Usmanabad, according to the Garden police on Friday. The victim was attacked outside his house near Dhobi Ghat, sparking panic in Garden and surrounding neighbourhoods where aerial firing was reported. The police were called in.

The victim’s house is located in a congested area where not even a motorcycle could enter, leading the police to believe that the men sitting with him were the attackers. “They were strangers and disappeared soon after,” witnesses told the police.

Elsewhere, 26-year-old Shah Jahan, believed to be a member of the Katchi community, was also attacked. He was shot once in the head and his body was taken to Civil hospital where scores of supporters turned up, upset and demanding arrests.

Police said that the attackers used a small weapon and empty shells were found at the crime scene. But they suspect this killing was not political. According to SHO Sajjadul Hassan, he wasn’t even sure if the Lyari gangsters were behind the incident. He said he suspected the victim was involved in the narcotics trade. “He earlier was arrested by the police in a case,” the SHO said. “He was killed for not paying someone money.”

Close by, in Lea Market, a restaurant owner was gunned down, said the Kharadar police. Fifty-three-year-old Gul Nawab Khan was sitting at his restaurant when he was attacked by two armed men on a motorcycle. According to SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi, the victim was from Mansehra and lived with his wife and four children in Hijrat Colony, Sultanabad. The police said that they could not say if he was affiliated with any political or religious party for now. FIR No. 192/11 was registered.

Another man was shot dead in Sardar Hotel near Al Asif police check post, said the Sacchal police. Twenty-six-year-old Yasir Abbas, a Gulshan-e-Iqbal resident, was shot twice. He died at a private hospital and his body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities. Police said he was killed by friends during a fight while they were having tea. Yasir was unmarried and an employee at a private firm.

The Napier police found a body in a gunny bag dumped in a garbage drum in Old Kumar Wara. SHO Nawaz Gondal went to check it out after people said someone threw the sack from a car. The man was tortured and burnt.

SHC hears petition against target killings

The Sindh High Court observed that protection of life was the responsibility of the state and that the government could not absolve itself from its duties by merely saying that the country was facing terrorism.

The court was hearing a petition seeking an inquiry into the target killings, the removal of no-go areas and the operation for recovery of illegal weapons in the city.

The South Asia representative of the Human Rights Commission, Syed Iqbal Kazmi, referring to the 450 target killings of political activists in the city during the first six months of 2009, submitted that Article 9 of the Constitution guaranteed protection to citizens, while Article 4 assured that every individual had the right to be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The petitioner submitted that more than 270 people, including political activists, had been killed in the city in the last three months.

He submitted that the people were living in fear due to lack of arrest of the culprits involved in target killings as in the last two years over 2,500 people were killed(3200+ ever-since MQM-PPP came to power) in incidents of violence and lawlessness in the city.

The court inquired from the provincial law officer about the status of target killing cases as a report filed by the DIG (investigation) in the petition was not complete.

The provincial law officer sought time to file comments on behalf of the DIG (Investigation) on details of the cases of target killings and progress made by the law-enforcement agencies.

The court, adjourning the matter, directed the government law officer to submit comments from the DIG concerned in the matter.

Kazmi cited the interior secretary, the Sindh chief secretary, the DG of Rangers, the IG of Police, the Capital City Police Officer of Karachi and 23 SHOs of different police stations of Karachi and requested the court to call for the record of target killings in the city, order the arrest of the culprits and provide protection to the citizens.

what an interesting world we live in. to you it is a fact that Altaf Bhai is a murderer.... it is part of your eimaan almost.

while to many others he is the leader of an important movement. maybe you should become more tolerant and respect others opinions as you cannot force people to always believe what you believe and call them "mentally wrong" just to be on your side.

Target killings continue.. 7 died yesterday,6 shot dead today..

MQM has once again resorted to torturing and drilling holes into bodies , Some one better wakes up and call patriotic General(Naseerullah Babar type) to deal with this MQMized menace..

PPP worker gunned down in Malir

An activist of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party was gunned down in the Malir area while the body of a brother of a former union nazim was found in Pak Colony on Wednesday, police said.

They said that Nadir Rasheed Hashmi, the former UC nazim’s brother, was kidnapped by armed men from an area close to his home in Gulbahar last week. His body was found in the Pak Colony graveyard on Wednesday and it bore severe torture and drilling marks.

The police said the kidnapping incident was witnessed by some area people and an FIR was lodged at the Rizvia police station about his kidnapping.

“The police, however, remained unable to trace the victim,” said an official at the Rizvia police station. “The family said they received only one call from a number demanding a ransom for the victim’s release.”

On Wednesday morning, the Pak Colony police came to know about a body lying in the area graveyard. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where it was finally identified as that of Nadir Rasheed Hashmi, who was in his mid-thirties.

A post-mortem examination and initial investigations suggested that the victim was brutally tortured and his captors had also drilled holes into his body.

“There was no bullet wound,” said an official at the medico-legal section of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. “The deceased suffered multiple fractures as well as deep wounds that also caused a huge blood loss. Sharp metal and a drill machine have also been used to torture him.”

The Pak Colony police later traced the family links of the victim and determined the fact that he was a younger brother of Amir Rasheed Hashmi, a known activist of the area, who had been elected UC Nazim in the 2001 local government elections from the Jamaat-i-Islami-backed Al-Khidmat Panel.

“The exact motive behind the killing is not clear but it seems that he was kidnapped for ransom,” said DSP Qaiser Ali Shah, the area’s supervisory police officer.

“Though the victim was not actively associated with any group, his elder brother has an uneven history of political loyalty, as he was elected UC nazim from the JI platform after quitting another political party in the area.”

He said the police had registered an FIR (75/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified persons.

Later in the evening, some half-a-dozen armed men on three motorbikes attacked roadside vendors in the Malir area and killed a political activist and left a young man wounded, officials said.

They said the armed men emerged on Baba Wilayat Ali Shah Road near Juma Goth before sunrise and stopped near the road that had several stalls of foodstuffs.

“A few riders got off the motorbikes and fired at some vendors,” said DSP Ramzan Gopang. “The firing killed 30-year-old Ghulam Muhammad Baloch and left Akhtar Hussain Baloch badly wounded. The attackers left the scene in seconds.”

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The police, however, remained clueless about the motive and the identity of the attackers. A few witnesses were quoted as saying that the attackers were dressed in trousers and shirts.

“The deceased was a resident of Juma Goth in Malir and used to sell soft drinks close to his home in the evening on Baba Wilayat Ali Shah Road,” said DSP Gopang.

Meanwhile, a senior leader of the PPP Karachi division, Sohail Abidi, claimed that the victim was a party activist.

“He was the sixth party member who has been brutally murdered solely on political grounds in recent weeks. It’s an attempt to harass other PPP workers in the city,” he added.

215 fell victim to targeted killings in March

March 2011 was one of the bloodiest months in Karachi with regard to targeted killings as 215 people lost their lives, says a report compiled by intelligence agencies.

    http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle08.asp?xfile=data/international/2011/April/international_April513.xml&section=international

    .

Killer alleges MQM has militant wing

One of the most dangerous alleged target killers, who confessed to have killed many, including police officers in Karachi, has reportedly claimed his association with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s “militant wing”, and has named Dr Imran Farooq as the contact person for many party militants. He further said that Ajmal Pahari was one of the MQM’s men.

Arrested and interrogated in 2010 before the murder of Dr Imran Farooq, the accused target killer, Muhammad Ishtiaq, alias Salman, alias Police Wala, confessed before the Joint Interrogation Team comprising representatives of the ISI, IB, Rangers, CID, Sindh Police and Special Branch, as reported in an official document, that Ajmal Pahari (who was arrested recently in Karachi and is alleged to have been involved in the killing of 100 people) also belongs to the MQM.

But Ishtiaq’s revelation appears contradictory when, on the one hand, he talked of a militant wing of the MQM but, on the other hand, he said that Dr Imran Farooq and Ajmal Pahari had been carrying out killings without any such party policy.

The report quoted him as saying: “Ishtiaq further revealed that many of the militants were in direct contact with Dr Imran Farooq. For instance, Ajmal Pahari and Saeed Bharam had reportedly been carrying out killings on his orders, separate from the party policy. And often a large number of killings were conducted to advance personal interests and for personal enmities.”

The Sindh Home Department report says that 26 accused, arrested and interrogated in target killing cases in 2010, belong to the MQM, MQM-H, ANP, SSP, Sipah-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Ishtiaq’s background and his confession, as reflected in the official report, is simply shocking so it is being reproduced in full:

“AFFILIATION WITH MQM (A) MILITANT WING: He joined MQM (A) as a worker in 1996/97 in Liaquatabad sector. He was arrested in 1997 by Azizabad police after he brandished a weapon in front of the Golden Pan Shop. After receiving permission from Shoaib Bukhari, the SHO registered a case u/s 13-d of the Arms Ordinance against Ishtiaq. During his detention in jail, he met all activists/terrorists of MQM (A) who were arrested during the operation period.

“After release from Jail, he met with Fahim alias Kankata, who motivated him to join the militant wing of MQM (A) in 1997. As he had been dismissed from service, he travelled to South Africa in October 1997 and stayed there for nine months. After returning in August 1998, he was arrested during the operation that began after the murder of Hakim Said in October 1998. He was arrested by SHO Azizabad, Inspector Ghazanfar Kazmi. He was challanned in five murder cases, one case of 13-D, one case of 13-e, and one case of s.147/148. He was released from jail after two years and reinstated in service in 2003, on the recommendation of Shoaib Bukhari. He remained inactive in the party for the next 4/5 years.

“Two and a half years ago, Adeel bhai came from London and contacted him. Adeel bhai knew him because he had worked with Adeel in South Africa. Adeel bhai assigned him a new task of selecting militants for establishing a new “set-up” for the party. “Set Up” is the code for establishing a new killing team.

“In this connection, he met Ubaid K-2, but Ubaid K-2 told him that he was already working with another set-up, i.e. that of Ajmal Pahari, but he recommended Rafay, (Rafay, Ubaid’s friend). Ishtiaq introduced Rafay to Adeel at 5/A2, New Karachi. Adeel gave him permission for making a team and Rafay’s team included Danish, Faisal, Irfan alias Irfi, and Nomi. After 10 days of that meeting, Rafay brought his team to meet Adeel. Then Adeel directed him to manage the team on his behalf, as he did not want direct contact with the team members. One year after this, Adeel also gave him the responsibility for managing two other teams, that of Muhammed bhai alias Hasan in Landhi, and Sultan bhai in Orangi. Jehangir Babu, who runs a team in Korangi, also reports to him from time to time.

“DISCLOSURE/INFORMATION: He was arrested in 1997, in PS Azizabad Karachi for keeping illicit 30 bore weapon, a case was registered u/s 13-D A.O. and he was jailed for three months.

“Then he went to South Africa with Asif Dadan and Nasim alias Nasim Behari (Liaquatabad wala) and got asylum in South Africa. He was attached with MQM (A) group in South Africa. Raza bhai of New Karachi Sector was the overall In-charge of South Africa MQM (A) Group, and Qamar Ghalib and Qamar Teddy were also very active in South Africa set-up. Approximately, after 9-10 months, he returned to Pakistan with Asif Bhai. On his return, he once again became active in the Liaquatabad Sector and was arrested after one year in 1999, at PS Azizabad Karachi by SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi. He was challanned in seven cases, including the murder of Haqiqi workers Ismail Burmi, Naseem, and Aslam; the murder of a police head constable; and the brother of Shera bhai, who was a party worker. He was jailed for two years. He was released on bail from the ADJ Central in 2001.

“Again, he joined the Liaquatabad sector and worked for the party. In 2003, Shoaib Bukhari helped him to get reinstated in police service in Special Branch.

“ATTACK ON SSP MUHAMMAD ASLAM KHAN (CASE FIR NO. 07/2010 U/S PS GIZRRI, CLIFTON TOWN, KARACHI): Adeel Bhai alias Agha told him that Shakeel Umar, who was at the time commanding all MQM militants in the city, had given the task to the team of Ajmal Pahari for assassination of SSP Muhammad Aslam Khan. This team carried out attack on SSP Muhammad Aslam Khan at the Punjab Chowrangi, PS Gizri, in January 2006 in which two gunmen of the SSP were killed (Shaheed).

“DSP (retired) RAHEEM BANGASH CASE: (CASE FIR NO. 517/2010 U/S 302/34 PPC PS METHADAR, SADDAR TOWN, KARACHI: Approximately, 18 months earlier, at Sector 5-A 1/2 unit office, he met with Adeel bhai and Rafay. Adeel bhai asked him about DSP Raheem Bangash. He told them that Raheem Bangash was retired and he had nothing to do with operation. He didn’t give them any information. Adeel bhai collected information on his own and after 5 to 7 days, called him again and told him to assist the team, as the order had come from above. Rafay called and told him that he was on the given address, at Uni Plaza on the 7th Floor, (where Raheem Bangash had his chambers). Rafay told him he could not identify Bangash and needed Ishtiaq’s help. Ishtiaq told him he could not come that day but would come the next day. Ubaid K2 also called him and asked him to identify the target. The next working day, he went with the team, which included Rafay, Ubaid K2, who was just assisting the team, and Irfi. He stood outside the Uni Plaza while the team went upstairs, and followed Bangash down. They signalled to him to confirm that they had identified the right person, and he confirmed that it was indeed Raheem Bangash. Next day Adeel bhai asked him if he had identified Bangash, and he replied positively. Two days later, Ubaid alias K-2 called and gave him the code word (FILE HOGAYE/FILE KI PAYMENT HOGAYE). Adeel Bhai called me to this office in evening when I reached there I met Ubaid, Rafay and Iffi. Adeel bhai appreciated their good work.

“SI SAJID MURDER CASE: Jehangir Babu came to see Adeel and asked him for permission to kill SI Sajid, who lived in Korangi. Adeel informed him that Jehangir had asked for permission due to some personal dispute, as Sajid had never served in the operation against MQM. Then about 15 days after this, SI Sajid was murdered and Jehangir gave a compliance report to Ishtiaq.

“MURDER OF INSPECTOR NASIR UL HASSAN (S.H.O BRIGADE PS). CASE FIR NO.30/2010 U/S 353/324/302/392/34 PPC PS BRIGADE, JAMSHEED TOWN, KARACHI: Adeel bhai met Rafey and Ishtiaq in Gol Market (Rafay’s house is in Gol Market and Duan was the code name of his home) and planned to kill Inspector Nasir Ul Hassan. Adeel Bhai had asked the team for targets and Rafay proposed killing of Nasirul Hassan, who was at that time posted at Kemari Town. Adeel agreed, as it was well known that Nasirul Hassan had been active in the operation, and had killed Rehan Bandhani, an MQM worker from Liaqatabad. After six months Adeel bhai asked for progress report as Rafay’s team had not succeeded. Ishtiaq asked Rafay 2/3 times about the given task and he assured him that the task would be done. As there was some confusion about Nasirul Hassan’s appearance, Adeel asked someone to get pictures of the man with the wig. (Nasirul Hasan wore a wig). But before the pictures came, the team got the opportunity. At the time, Nomi was not part of the Rafay’s team, but was working with Ubaid alias K-2. At the time of Nasir ul Hassan’s killing, Ubaid called him and informed him that the task had been completed but one of the boys (Nomi) has been injured and he asked Ishtiaq to arrange for a doctor. He phoned Adeel and asked him to bring a doctor to the school in Liaqatabad No.4, which was the team’s meeting place.

He arranged the doctor namely Israr Raheel (from Zubaida Hospital, Liaquatabad No.3). The doctor checked the injured person and said that this is a bullet injury case and the patient should be moved to hospital. After the doctor left, he brought another doctor, namely Dr. Nadeem Abbas Jafri (working in Memon Hospital, Hussainabad), for treatment of the injured person. The doctor checked the injured person and advised him that the bullet had just grazed Nomi’s neck and was not serious, but he would have to go to hospital. He admitted him in Memon Hospital, Hussainabad, Karachi.

“MURDER OF DSP NAWAZ RANJHA (CASE FIR NO. 929/2010 U/S 302/324/353/427/34 PPC, 7 ATA PS PARADE, SADDAR TOWN KARACHI: Two years ago, Iffi’s brother was killed in an incident in Jamshed Quarters PS. Iffi suspected that his brother was murdered and the incident had been covered up by the local police, specifically DSP Nawaz Ranjha, who was the SPO at the time. The reason for covering up the incident was that the family of the girl with whom Iffi’s brother was involved had approached Ranjha. When Ishtiaq attended his funeral, he knew that Iffi’s brother had relations with a girl and he used to come to her house. One morning a policeman came to Iffi’s home and told them that police found a dead body in which they found his address, on which the family reached the PS. The police had already lodged a suicide case. Iffi’s family collected information for 2 to 4 days and concluded that he had been killed by the family of the girl, and that Ranjha had covered up the matter.

“When Iffi sought Adeel bhai’s permission to kill Ranjha on this ground, Adeel bhai asked whether DSP Nawaz Ranjha was the same man who had been SHO in PS Gulbehar? Adeel bhai asked to collect information about DSP Nawaz Ranjha, and said that if he was the same Ranjha who had been posted in Gulbehar, then he was a supporter of the party, because he used to tell the party in advance when the police would surround and besiege the Khajji Ground. But Rafay and Iffi insisted that he was not the same Ranjha, so Adeel gave the go-ahead for killing him. On the night when DSP Nawaz Ranjha was murdered, half an hour later Rafay called me and asked me if I was watching TV, because there was a very good match on TV. (He was speaking the code about the breaking news of Ranjha’s murder). Ishtiaq said yes, and what had happened was good. Then he hung up the phone. Next day, Adeel bhai called me and asked me in code words: who had done this job? (Yeh Garhi Kisne Khareedi?) Ishtiaq told him he would give him the details in the office. Then I met Rafay in Gol Market FC Area, and enquired about the incident. Rafay boasted about the murder and told him that he, Iffi, Faisal, Nomi and Kashif are involved. He further told him that he had already informed Adeel bhai.

“After a few days, Adeel Bhai called me at Nazimabad marriage hall lane and told me that he will take care of this mistake. Siddique bhai was also there and he scolded Adeel Bhai and threatened him that he would be sent back to London if he could not manage his teams. Adeel bhai told Siddique bhai that he had told Rafay only to do the job after verifying the facts about Ranjha and only after checking with Salman bhai (Ishtiaq’s party name) first. I denied that Rafay had ever asked my permission.

“When Iffi was arrested and disclosed my name, I asked Adeel Bhai to take me to his house because my name was announced on television. But he didn’t shelter me and I went underground. Then they contacted my friend Muhammad Sultan and ordered him not to receive my call or contact me. When I contacted Adeel bhai on Eid, he told me about the good news of reinstatement of our followers, Jahangir babu, Shehzad, Asad, Ansari bhai and Moon.

“TARGET KILLING SPREE ONE AND A HALF MONTHS BEFORE THE MURDER OF RAZA HYDER, MPA: He disclosed that one and a half months before the murder of MQM MPA Raza Hyder, Adeel bhai told him to give instructions to all this teams to target office bearers of ANP. Adeel bhai said that these orders had come from above. Ishtiaq asked his teams accordingly, but in that period, they were unable to hit any ANP target. However, dozens of ordinary Pathans were killed, and in fact, Sultan asked him why he had restricted their targets to ANP office bearers when everyone else was targeting whomever he wished. Sultan said that had he been allowed to do the same, he would have gotten dozens of targets. Later, Adeel Bhai told him that his people had been responsible for at least 21-22 murders.

Ishtiaq further disclosed that his teams had not taken part in any of the target killings that had occurred after the murder of MPA Raza Hyder, and that those killings had been conducted by the unit and sector level vigilance committees.

STRUCTURE OF MQM KILLING TEAMS: Ishtiaq disclosed that there were several “Set Ups” working in Karachi, carrying out target killings. Initially, all killing teams in Karachi were centralised under Shakeel Omar. Later, when Shakeel Omar got heavily involved in land grabbing and corruption activities in Surjani Town, he was set aside and Ajmal Pahari (Party name Adnan) and Saeed Bharam (Party name Ahmed) were given the responsibility. But they too got involved in corruption activities and so vigilance committees were created at the unit and sector level, which would serve as armed wings. But they too grew out of control.

Therefore, finally this new set-up under Adeel bhai and Siddique bhai was formed. These were mostly militants who were being run by South Africa unit. Currently, Qamar Teddy and Raza Bhai of New Karachi are in-charge in South Africa, and Adeel bhai and Siddique bhai were in touch with these individuals, but were also in touch with London, where Anis Qaimkhani was in-charge of the killing teams.

Ishtiaq further revealed that many of the militants were in direct contact with Dr. Imran Farooq. For instance, Ajmal Pahari and Saeed Bharam had reportedly been carrying out killings on his orders, separate from the party policy. And often a large number of killings were conducted to advance personal interests and enmities.

INFORMATION: Adeel alias Agha is in-charge of several target-killing teams of MQM (A) group. Under his supervision, he (Ishtiaq Police Wala) alias Salman operate the following teams:

All targets were given to the teams by Ishtiaq Police Wala, who also received compliance reports from the teams and passed on the information to Adeel alias Aga Murtaza.

Presently, the MQM high command from London has reportedly ordered all militants to target ANP office bearers and MQM (H) and PPI activists/workers in Karachi.
