Karachi: At least 15 persons have been wounded in a clash between two rival groups in Landhi area of Karachi, sources said on Sunday.

The sources said that workers of a group were going to attend a party meeting at makeshift Bait-ul-Hamza when several unknown men attacked them with sticks, iron bars and stones.

“Tension griped the area after the clash and few firing incidents were also occurred in the area,” the sources said.

The sources said that Atif, said to be brother of Afaq Ahmed, Chairman of Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H), had also suffered two bullet shots at the abdomen while others suffered physical injuries during the clash.

You sound like an MQM supporter on this blog; can you throw some light on what is the background (past, present and future too) of fighting between MQM and other MQM group.

Afaq has been let go to derail MQM's efforts to grow nationally, it is a conspiracy of establishment. Afaq can't walk without the immunity and security provided to him by the Rangers where he holds rank and ISI. He was rejected back he brought the wrath to the people of Karachi. I mean irony is, he talks big about muhajirs but he single-handedly harm the community more than the any outsiders. He is traitor and I have no respect for him and neither the people living in the areas of Landhi and Korangi.

As for the tussle, it is magnified for the obvious reasons by ISPR, of course Afaq is their underperforming pet project, who knows he may be given the last chance to show the masters the tricks he is been taught.

If Afaq Ahmed is so unpopular in Karachi, why not give him complete freedom? Allow him to go anywhere he wants and ask people for support.

When in spite of this free hand, people of Karachi reject him in elections, then his claim of wide support will be exposed and he will not be able to complain that Muttahida is holding the whole city hostage and is trying to eliminate him.

Dirty political games of agencies cause heavy damage to the political environment of the country. Agencies uplift a political party and then suppress it by developing its anti-group. There seem to be no patriotic people in the agencies.

Acccording to you Afaq has no support in Karachi and he is a pet dog of Establishment but MQM too is a pro-establishemnt party. Why do a bigger and more organised party MQM will be preferred over a less known Afaq group? Can Afaq win seats in Karachi? Does he have support base in Landhi area?

@Adonis & SweetTruth....you both have raised legitimate questions....the answers to these questions would be the same justification as given for Altaf Bhai's not coming to Pakistan.....illogical, laughable, vague, lacking substance and denying common sense!!!!

People in Karachi know that MQM was brought into being by Zia to counter PPP's support in Sindh....its an irony to see MQM & PPP are now allies, and if you wonder how can it be possible, well, look no farther than PML-Q which was dubbed loud and clear in the glaring lights of Tv cameras as being the Qatil League prior to acquiring its place in Zardari's lap.....

Anything in Pakistan is possible if the price is right!!!

Haqiqi has no electoral support in Karachi.

If they are really lucky they may win a provincial seat from Landhi or Shah Faisal may be. That will mean MQM loosing atleast 3 seats from Sindh assembly. 2 from pakhtoon areas and 1 from Landhi.

I am surprised why Altaf Bobby is so afraid of Haqiqi. He should really let them work, I dont think they pose a serious threat to him. Yes, Haqiqi workers can be as big of badmash as Altaf bobby's group, so that might be the cause of bobby group's nervousness and fear.

Thanks for your explanation; why politics in Karach is so violent? If haqiqi group can only win 1 seat then why establishment supports them over a bigger and more organised party MQM. What is their game plan?

In my view, unsettling MQM from Karachi is very costly and dangerous so establishment will not take that risk. They all are dirty politicians with dirty links with establishment.

@sweettruth....don't fall into MQM propaganda of Haqiqi being supported by the establishment....have they got any proof....and it also defies logic that why establishment will support a splinter group which doesn't have as big a control over people and no way near the size of gang that MQM commands? This is million dollar question that MQM propagandists fail to answer....logically, that is!!!!

Isn't MQM in the coalition govt and isn't Altaf Bhai issuing weekly statements in support of army? who they are fooling then???

  16. @geez SultanAliKhan

We are down to politics 101. Isn't Imran Khan against army ops and at the same time issued statements on army support. Isn't N league against army but advocates support of army courts. Doesn't PPP always point out army but at the same time reiterates strong understanding with the army.

You might wanna ask who Imran, N League, PPP fooling?

I agree, unsettling MQM from Karachi is risky but the risk has to be taken. Dumb military minds can only come up with jokers like Sunni Tehreek. These solutions are unsustainable and non-political. These smaller distractions are created to generate pressure on Bobby group and to inform them who is boss.

A real, positive and sustainable solution is a political change in Karachi. A truly political force needs to challenge MQM politically and snatch seats from them. This is extremely hard to do but unfortunately there are no short-cuts.

No, the SSP and haqiqi alliance was formed during and after army operation and establishment was supporting Haqiqi during that time.

However, the policy has changed since Musharraf. A similar crain was sent with rangers trucks around them which bulldozed the same bait-ul-hamza.

Zardari along with some elements of establishment are countering MQM's badmashi and bhatta khori by promoting other smaller groups with fire power. So its more like badmash Vs badmash.

Re-zoning of Karachi will be another effective way to weaken's MQM artificially exaggerated representation in assemblies which MQM successfully did with Musharraf's help, but again it is not easy to re-zone Karachi.

You obsession with MQM's demise is quadrapling, probably check with psychiatrist. Better put your energy where it is needed: the rest of the Pakistan. Haven't we heard the saviour stories from people like you, oh we have to save people of Karachi—complete and utter bull crap. It is our right to choose whoever we like and matter of fact MQM is in power because of the electoral choice given to us under the constitution of Pakistan so who are you to tell us to choose someone else.

MQM is very organized and well-disciplined organization where accountability is a definite matter. If any of you live in Karachi or any other MQM-elected area, call your MPA or MNA with any problem, you will get immediate response. No other political party of Pakistan does that. The rest are there or trying to come into power to do badmasshi and corruption. In a nut shell.

  26. Karachi's politics is all about taking control; army establishment wants to control this city so does MQM. Any fighting between MQM and establishment is dangerous. When I visited Karachi last time, I was surprised to see the infrastructure development and local people praised MQM. When I talked with people about socio-political situation of Karachi, they expressed mixed views (both positive and negative about MQM) but 9 out of 10 people confirmed they will vote MQM. Even one of my strong Jamati cousins confirmed he voted MQM in the last elections because of Jamat's boycott of election.

In my view, no force can separate MQM from Karachi's politics since it has become indispensable part of city's socio-economics and political base. MQM's political status and influence in Karachi is like PPP in rural Sind or PML-N in northern Punjab. Our dirty establishment may provide support to other MQM group even though it does not have wider support in Karachi but at the end of the day they will have to negotiate with MQM.
