Terrorists attack on PNS Mehran Base(karachi)

KARACHI: Pakistan Naval Shipping (PNS) Mehran Base, a heavily guarded facility of Pakistan Navy located along Shahrah-e-Faisal, has come under a terrorist attack, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Sunday.

He said terrorists have launched an armed attack on PNS Mehran while the security forces and army personnel are retaliating terrorists, he said.

The minister said that the attack has been countered to a large extent and the security forces have placed strict cordon around the area.

A big fire is still raging at the site, which the firefighters are trying to douse.

Following the attack, PM Yousuf Raza Gilani phoned Interior Minister and inquired about the situation.

Geo News correspondent said that reportedly 10 terrorists have attacked on PNS Mehran with hand grenades while the gunshots are still being heard from inside.

sad incident.

Did anyone notice the navy installation has been attacked quite a bit lately. There were a couple of attacks on Navy buses and now this.

It appears to me the Navy is being given or is planning to start some project/operation and terrorists obviously dont like it.

The Yankee plan is unfolding full fledge. The army has been downgraded in the eyes of the public, fighting on our western borders and the evergreen threat hanging over the head from the east. It's very worrying and we should be quite careful to attack our army (in general). I know it's double edged sword, but still I urge everyone to to be careful.

not much sure but some news channels were reporting that the actual target was american ships .if so then the situation could be more terrible and the american will have a solid (so called) reason to take the matters in their own hand as they were already looking for some excuses:(

Because Russian target was warm waters which meant they were headed to Pakistan. It was in Pakistans interest to push the russians back.

This is terrible news. Not just the attack but that P-C3 Orion aircrafts, a couple of them, have been completely destroyed. This is million of dollars going up in flames. I guess this is a 50 million dollar kee duzz right their!

Pasha is being pushed to the wall. They want him to resign. First Abbotabad, now this.

This is terrible and this is Blackwater. Blackwater is HQ'd in Karachi. The fight is being taken to isolate the armed forces.

Action is required. Swift action. Call for mid-terms. Get in people who are not controlled by strings and then get out of this war.

What incentive does TTP have to attack PN? They should have rather gone to Malir Cantt. This is not TTP. This is XE.

No more waiting.

PTT usually attack Political, Diplomatic and Military spots all around Pakistan and in Karachi US Consulate had been their Primary target.....Since almost all Pakistani Bases have Foreigners working especially Chinese and Americans so that is why their role is Highly suspected.....

In my view it is an act of madness from brainwashed militants who have now attacked Naval base to take revenge of world's biggest terrorist Osama Bin Ladin.
Our security is so weak and laid back that anyone can attack any building anywhere in Pakistan.

Rehman Malik should resigned, as well as some one from our Intelligence forces should take responsibility.... how come 10-15 guys can attack high security areas.
its not first time attacks on GHQ, Navy base or such high sensitive areas are under attack for long but no one in government taking responsibility of this failures

Question is that why such a sensitive installation is doing within city limits at all?

If someone remembers in 1997 , when NS just started his second term , a PAF plane having taken off from masroor , bombamded Liaqtabad with its fule tanks on the pretext that it has failure of supply and it had to unload fuel , at that time this question was also raised and most credible airforce x-chiefs like asghar khan and nur khan both said that such installations should be moved out of city.

But since our BAHDUR FAUJ is in love with precious urban land, no such thing can materialize.

Just imagine , had this attackers targeted a ammuniation depot like Ojri camp , what would have been the result. On one side of this is Shah Faisal Colony , on the other side is karsaz , KDA-1 , M A Jinnah , PECHS ? Just imagine .

Another humiliation for Pakistan Army. Few more incidents like this and the world will be asking to take over Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

On a side note, we hope this Pakistan Military Inc will save us when time come where as they cant defend themselves...

May i know that who brought & trained these people in 80's and 90's ? Was it u , me or any civilian ?

Who is fond of strategic depth concept ? u , me or some MUQADAS GAEEY ?

If today my father can't pray in the mosque because our mosques have become unsafe , my sister/mother can't go to market because our markets are unsafe , my children can't go to a playground because our playgrounds are unsafe , who is responsible ?

Only those are responsible who have been harbouring , training and minting $$$ from these . And it was no one else but our "BAHDUR FAUJ" , starting from Gen.Zia / akhtar abdul rehman to mushraf / kiyani / pasha.

We need to fix our house first. Call the culprit a culprit without any prejudice , do an accountablity of misdeeds and give the rightful people their right.

Till the time masses of this country are treated as "BLOODY CIVLIANS" and their elected representatives are kept away (On gunpoint) from policy making , this cohaos will continue.

We need to trust our masses and their collective oponion.

In this hour of crisis , which has been caused by "BRAVE ARMY" u r asking to strengthen the culprits , we need to strengthen the masses, the nation not someone who is solely responsible for this choas.

Our army is no doubt brave and competent. The problems are not with the soldiers up to the level of colonels. The problems are with the soldiers promoted above colonel levels on the basis of nepotism or lobbying.

We have seen their bravery against the civilains mulitple times whether it was lush green Bengal or deserts of sind & balochistan or urban areas of Khi/hyderabad.

But , unfortunely , we have also seen the surrender of 90000 which was biggest ever (at that time ) since 2nd world war.

@ beenai: when army is weak, people such as you say that now is not the right time to criticize a sensitive national institution and when it is in a strong position anyone doing so is abducted, so it is now or never.

Defence budget should be brought into parliament, civilians should be appointed as secretary defence and head of ISI and the entire officers cadre infect the entire armed forces should take a lie detector test as to where their loyalties lie. While lie detectors can be fooled it will give us a farely reasonble idea nonetheless.

KARACHI: The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility on Monday for a brazen attack on a Karachi naval base that has claimed five lives and destroyed naval aircraft, saying the carnage was to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden.
�It was the revenge of martyrdom of Osama bin Laden. It was the proof that we are still united and powerful,� Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said by telephone from an undisclosed location.

A spokesman said that the team of militants they sent into Karachi s PNS Mehran naval base on Sunday night had enough supplies to survive a three-day siege.

"They have enough ammunition and food and they can fight and survive for three days," Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said.

He said up to 22 militants were assigned to launch the attack. Accounts are unclear, but up to five militants may have been killed by Pakistani troops. The remaining are holed up in a building on the base exchanging fire with commandos.

This is Balckwater/XE/RAW with a clear target in mind. TTP knows sh*t abt Orion aircrafts! This was a focused effort to destroy the surveillance aircrafts.

TTP knows sh*t abt attacking PNS Mehran. Someone else with a more sophisticated network and equipment has broken through.

Had it been TTP, they would have at best attacked Lahore or Pindi. They wouldnt travel to Karachi to destroy orion aircrafts.

Karachi is the HQ of Blackwater/ RAW. RAW's assets have helped RAW establish with strenght here in Khi.

But I swear upon god this time it is enough. Should we find a shred of evidence of bharti involvement, we should bomb their f'in guts out instead of whining taliban taliban!

Kayani show some guts and send an armored brigade to delhi instead of hiding behind TTP.
