When I heard that renowned writer Ishtiaq Ahmed is coming Karachi to attend Book Fair in Expo Centre where his publisher is arranging a stall of their novels, I am recalling my childhood days when I was addict of their novels but never fond a wrong or offensive sentence in the whole content which he has produced. He is really a genius but unfortunately we Pakistani do not value our assets especially related to art and literature. If he would be in foreign countries, definitely he gets recognition in term of awards/accolades. But this is very unfortunate that we did not recognize him as a great writer. Our children, who are addict of internet and TV and have lost habit of reading, must read their books that teach us patriotism, unbreakable believe in Allah, courage and intelligence.

Reading & writing culture has almost diminished in our society. There are hardly any readers or writers of childhood and boyhood ages.
Despite more advanced internet culture abroad, the children in the Western society are not permitted to deviate from the culture of reading and writing. They have embodied this cultural system in their schools. Teachers themselves encourage reading and writing among the students.

Yes I still remember Inspector Jamshaid and Mahmood Farooq Farzana his children. Very good series. He used good and easy language. He followed the footprints of great Ibne-Safi. Good writer.
Unfortunately urdu language (Identity of Muslims of Sub continent) is dying in Pakistan whereas it is flourishing n India. What a contradiction!

I remember the library culture of 3-4 decades back. Besides, the general libraries, there were libraries to offer story books on rent. Such libraries existed in most of the localities of cities.

Exactly I m recalling my old good days……
Hussain Farooqui
Yes , we have lost a lot good and precious assets in past two decades like reading habit and library culture… but now I m thinking that we should start any little effort to revive reading and book culture in our society especially among the children………… books make u human being … so we must start t reading and respect of authors. Now it’s necessary.

I think nothing is comparable with Ibn-e-Safi....all other have their contribution which is also appreciatable
One name is A Hameed Marhoom as well.Posted 5 months ago on 08 Dec 2011 12:37 # -
Ibn e Safi was craze of those days but he is supposed a writer for adults ,although most children read him but we are talking here about exclusively children literature

"dhat terey ke" how many of us went through same kind of childhood hobbies.
i learned lot of urdu mohawar's by reading his books....

Ibne Safi's new novels were anxiously awaited in the market. Whenever, a new novel of his was published, a lot of copies were sold very shortly. His Imran Series and Jasoosi ki Dunya series were read with deep interest by large no. of readers.

Good one Kamal..
Do children these days read Taleem-o-tarbiatt and nonihaal?
You could find these in almost all households back in the day.
Posted 5 months ago on 08 Dec 2011 13:08 # -
Obaid i still see children reading nonihaal these days....
Posted 5 months ago on 08 Dec 2011 13:12 # -
Good to hear Consulatant Sahab.
I remember when I was a kid, I'd get pissed off sometimes when half of the nonihaal had Nonihaal assembly proceedings in it and very few stories. We then switched to Taleem-o-Tarbiatt but they kept raising the prices and eventually had to be unsubscribed but thanks to our jamati neighbours, we could borrow as many saathi as we could from them.

Reading about Ishtiaq ahmed and knowing that he is round is giving me spiritual happiness. Have his personally hand written answers of my letters to him. I was feeling top of the world receiving his letters.
Ishtiaq Ahmed ignited more patriotism through his novels than zia ul haq's prades. Pakasia was Pakistan, just forgetting what he used to refer for India, Israel and USA.Posted 5 months ago on 08 Dec 2011 16:49 # -
Dear All,
I m very glad to see ur opinions /comments on this thread.. I was not expecting that any issue other than politics can attract ppl for discussion. But it’s really good to know that some of us still like to think over social issues. It’s a positive sign.
As far as Ishtiaq Ahmed is concerned, I just wanted to register the point that we must appreciate our own writers who are serving the nation thru producing quality content in our national language. We must acknowledge Hakeem Muhammad saeed, Masood Ahmed Barkati, Ishtiaq Ahmed, A.Hameed , Mairaj and others. Our children should know about them apart from Harry porter.Posted 5 months ago on 09 Dec 2011 5:38 # -
Taleem or Tarbiat and Nonhaal were probably the first story books, other than Umro ayar and Tarzan, I read and kept reading regularly, until they become more expensive and study became more important (for parents :)) than reading stories.
I read only a few novels of Ishtiaq Ahmed, they were all great.
I read many of Amber Maria (I downloaded many of them recently) by A Hameed.
Thanks aristotle for making us remember them again.

Yes, old good memoires always make us happy..
I want that our next generation will also have sweet memoires like this apart from technical based entertainment.

Children's Monthly Nau Nihal was a great contribution of Hakeem Saeed Saheb to the nation. It contained good general knowledge and interesting stories.
There is a Readers Club in Karachi where weekly reading sessions are held every Friday at 6:00 PM in Shahjehan Auditorium opposite Abdullah Shah Gahzi Mazar. Admission is free.

I agree with all.
I have heard now kids now watch cartoon shows that are dubbed in India in their Hindi language and some even contain hindi characters.
This is highly unfortunate and I seriously wonder if people in charge are sleeping. How can t hey let this happen. Do people have any idea how much such cartoon shows effect children minds?
Posted 5 months ago on 12 Dec 2011 15:23 # -
yes, our parents doing nothing, they think that admission in a hi fy school, tutor, mulvi sahib, tv, internet, mobile and summer camps r gud enough for the children.

There are no character building measures existent in our society these days. No character building activities are carried out.

hussain Farooqui:
Agreed, our children have no example of practice and wrong doing r very common in our society and not objectionable nowadays.. but there is a point to stay for a moment and think abt the whole picture if we really worried abt our children and this country; s future…
