    Joint investigation team to probe abduction of Umar Cheema ISLAMABAD: A joint investigation team has been constituted to probe into the abduction and torture of The News reporter Umar Cheema, which would submit its report within eight days, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik said during a meeting with the victim, Geo News reported.

    The team comprised of ISI, MI, IB, Jang Group and representatives of journalists. He said that sketches of abductors would be drawn and the investigation would be conducted on modern lines.

    He noted that the treatment meted out to the reporter was shameful and regretful.

    ISI official appears before Cheema Commission

    ISLAMABAD: In an important move, the elite Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has finally attended the Umar Cheema judicial commission proceedings to record its version during a secret session, highly credible sources confirmed to The News Monday night.
    They said the ISI sent one of its senior officials to record the statement on behalf of the agency regarding its role in the kidnapping and subsequent torture and humiliation of Cheema.
    According to details of the proceedings when almost all the witnesses testified raised their finger towards ISI, the commission ordered to summon responsible officials of the ISI to record their statement so thatthe commission could ascertain the facts.
    When commission’s secretary Agha Abbas approached the ISI, he was told to write to the DG, anti-Terrorism of the ISI. According to credible sources, after correspondence between the commission and the ISI, the elite intelligence agency sent a responsible official to record the statement on behalf of the ISI.
    Secretary of the commission Agha Ali Abbas while talking to The News disclosed that the Umar Cheema commission will make its report public next one week. According to sources, the chief of the Judicial Commission will present its report to the prime minister through the Interior Ministry.

    Lets hope not but that's the risk they take and the bravery they show, not everyone has the bottle to do such bold reporting.

    I never understood how these agencies operate.

    If ISI had picked up Umar Cheema, they should have wasted him for once and for all.

    I hope that our agencies can match the legacy of the great agencies like the GESTAPO and NKVD.

    RAW, CIA, MOSSAD etc. etc stand no chance against the efficency of these two legendry intelligence organizations.
