winning an election is not an easy thing to do. You need to get your vote out and a lot of networking. It is not for everyone and not as easy as it looks from the outside.

I believe the official salary of a member of parliament is between RS 30K - 40K/month + perks. It was discussed in the talk shows many times when some members actually donated their salaries for the IDP's.

Can you provide a source for your numbers?

ps: They don't become rich from their salaries, rather the kickbacks they take from the development funds for their constituency. Who'd know this better than you as you're once part of the regime?

  6. Mr. Lota,
You might be really surprised to know, how stupid I was where in 1970, I refused to contest for MNA seat from Mandi Bahauddin when (Late) Mr. Hanif Ramey gave me the Party Ticket.
That time I didn't know about the benefits of an MNA.
(I don't have the capability to cash my honesty.)

I have been part of three election campaigns in Punjab where two of my relatives contested seats and it was a lot of work day and night for 3 months running an election campaign. Two of those campaigns were for Pml N tickets and one for PPP ticket. The Election Day and night and polling station is always a lot of fun.
It is never too late to contest an election. You can still do it. Where is Mandi Bahauddin ? Is it your home town? Do you still reside there?

    Vickram Malhotra,

Which candidate were you rooting for? Jay Saalik?

    Posted 2 years ago on 21 Oct 2009 0:21 #
  9. Jay Saalik is not doing politics anymore or is he? He can beat Imran Khan any day anywhere.:)
I think he settled in Dubai. He is more commited than any PTI Member I know. If Jay Salik was in PTI I would than be hopeful that PTI might get one seat because of him.

  10. My dear Lota,
Now it is too late for me to think about active politics.
I can't afford to jump into this field, financially as well as physically.
I am glad to learn where you have a practical experience of Election Campaign.
    Good luck.

  11. To win an election campaign the first thing you need is local support and networking ability. Money comes second and third is a dedicated team. You don’t win every election but if you keep at it you have a chance at winning.

All I know is he was always goofing off like locking himself in a cage and driving arnd the city. His antics were reported in the papers when I was in school. I remeber watching his pictures in the papers doing weird things. I'm sure he cud get Vickram's vote. lolz

  13. I actually saw him locked in that famous cage in a raggy shalwar kameez with dust in his hair in front of the Punjab assembly. He had a lot of chains on him and the cage was behind a pickup suzuki dubba. It takes a lot of guts to do what he did and he carried it off nicely. He is a pleasant guy.

He was definitely a giant figure to speak for the minorities.

  15. It is actually a shame that minority's have a different electorate. I have no doubt that Jay Sallak would have win from a regular seat. He certainly has the personality for it. He would get my vote.

In defense of the mna/ mpa or a minster I would like to bring to your attention that any given day you can expect 20-50 people from your constituency coming to your residence. You have to entertain them with tea, biscuits and juice and they eat there if it’s time for lunch or dinner. Just handling that is an expense that needs to come from somewhere. There are no days off and they come to get things done or get issues resolved.
